Use of Stick Curves is something that confuses me a bit as well as the Magnetic Brake. I'm confused only because of Conflicting Videos. Some say don't use Any Curves on the Cyclic. I tried it that way (albeit with a 3 Dead Zone on the Neutral/Center position to overcome the Detent) and found it to be too sensitive, so I ended up with a Curve of 15 on Roll and 10 on Pitch with my Rhino Hotas. I also have a slight curve on my Rudder Pedals as well as a Centered Dead Zone. But even with Curves, I find myself Over-Reacting or man-handling the Cyclic ... or at least the outcome comes across that way. I'll keep at it.

Well speaking for myself (although I'm confident this is true for Flagrum as well as many others), I have been and continue to spend countless hours of practice. But unlike other DCS helos and fixed wing aircraft etc, the Gazelle is proving to be a very difficult bird to master. It just seems to have some really weird behaviors at the most inopportune times, unlike the Huey for example (and NO I'm not comparing flight models of the Huey to the Gazelle ... only the Learning Curve). If it's all me, I'll figure it out. But if there are BUGS or the like that are adversely affecting the Flight Model, then I'd just as soon wait for them to be fixed before wasting countless hours trying to do something the Gazelle isn't currently able to do.

I concur with Flagrum. I have flown the Gazelle in 1.5 OB and 2 and find it hard to control with any proficiency.

I was hoping it wasn't just me. Hovering and level flight are no problem for me. But the more I want to turn or "get fancy" with the Gazelle, the more out-of-control I end up being to the point where (even with a dumbed-down cyclic curve to dull sensitivity) I either simply crash; invert and crash; or get into an uncontrollable oscillation that perpetuates itself ... until I crash !

Thanks for the reply. I am using the 1.5.3 Open Beta (for some reason ?). I agree with your assessment of the Fuel Lever, but I haven't done anything different here than I did before. So I can only assume this is new from the Update ? But I probably did throttle up a bit slower before. I'm not sure but I'll definitely give it a try and pay more attention to the Turbine RPM's. Thanks again.

I haven't had any problems with the Gazelle (except for flying it !) until after installing yesterday's update. I have twice now tried starting the chopper using the correct procedures and both times the Engine as Exploded (blown) during the process within a few seconds of the Rotor Blades starting to turn. I have attached both Track Files. Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on ? Gazelle - WTF Just Happened.trk Gazelle - WTF Just Happened 2.trk

So, is it possible to do a stable pick-up into hover?

I'm a little insulted that you suggested I had not read this thread from the beginning when in fact I have. It's true, due to the explanation throughout the thread I probably didn't understand the issue, but that's more likely due to the poorly described issue. Furthermore, some here including myself, believe you CAN lift off without gunning the collective. Just because YOU CAN'T doesn't mean everyone has the same issue. I provided a track which clearly shows I CAN LIFT OFF With a Soft/Gentle Increase of Collective (The first lift wasn't nearly as smooth as the second lift off .. half way through the track file .. again I would have provided a video with just that portion if I could have). If you watch the whole, long boring Track (that it is), you will see that I have achieved what you say is not possible (for you). At no time have I EVER done anything but subtle increase of collective power. On the other hand, I probably still don't understand the issue. If with minimal power the Gazelle slides across the tarmac as seen in "someone else's vid", then reduce the bloody power/collective so it doesn't do that OR increase a bit more and lift off. The whole argument is silly if you ask me. I mean why is it so important to sit there "twinkle toes lite" under power ? And is this something that other helicopters don't have an issue with ? If you add power, something has to give. Either you are going to start sliding around or you are going to take off. I CAN and do consistently lift off straight up WITH Gentle Collective Increase and I don't skid more that a couple inches at most. But most importantly, if after trying to obtain assistance you find that few people are grasping your issue, don't blame them or me for not getting it. It's either too complicated; moot and silly; or just poorly described by you in the first place. In any case, it doesn't require or call for INSULTS. -

Gazelle - Vertical Lift-Off and Hover - Track File I tried recording a video but my ShadowPlay didn't record my voice (never has ?) and the video quality was the shits at best. I'm not sure why because I haven't had any problem with that until now. Anyway, I have attached a Track File to show that in fact, you can Lift Off Vertically. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember how to convert a Track File into a video (although I think that is a feature in the ME ?!! .. can't remember). IF I could have uploaded the video, it would have skipped all the startup steps. ANYWAY ....... Here is a Link to my Track File. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/jm6htzhhxvm6pl4/Gazelle%20-%20Vertical%20Lift%20Off%20and%20Hover.trk?dl=0 NOTE: I do NOT use the Magnetic Trim function AND I use my rudder (pedals) as much if not more than my stick to perform and hold a steady hover (as is the case with the Huey as well .. in fact, even more-so). -

I'll try to save a track for you tomorrow morning. I'm able to lift off and hover pretty well (to both my surprise and my delight). In fact, I'm finding that much easier compared to anything but flying in a straight line. I find it very difficult to turn with any great coordination without losing altitude or just crashing. I removed the Curves from my Rhino HOTAS and like xxxJohnxxx indicates, I use several Down/Back ticks on my trim and one tick right. The rest is all in the Hands and Feet. Keep in mind, like in the Huey, smooth and coordinated inputs on the Rudder Pedals will contribute as much to a stable hover as any stick inputs. I correct forward and aft movements with my Pedals alone in many instances. Anyway, I'll try to get that Track posted as early as possible tomorrow (Tuesday). -
That is unfortunate. I know using triggers we can have new vehicles spawn and move to a designated Farp (essentially resupplying it) but what I would really like to see, is a C-130 or the like, do an Air Drop of supplies at or near a Farp ... or anywhere else on the map for that matter. I just think that would look so cool. Especially if the odd palette were to fall out of its sling or the chute to fail or something like that.

Cool thanks for that info. I must have missed that part !! PS> I also just remembered that the Gazelle was only released for DCS World 2 for now but will be available for 1.5 soon. Thanks again ody81 -
I am also curious about these 2 intriguing looking switches.

Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway

I just watched Matt Wagner flying in the Gazelle in 1.5.3 using this Terrain Texture Mod. It looked fantastic. Being that Matt was able to use it in 1.5.3, why isn't it available to the public yet ? I'm certainly going to purchase it whenever it is available. I think the price is well worth the effort put into it. But now I am trying to figure out how I might be able to fly my Gazelle in 1.5 ? I thought it was going to be available in 1.5 but so far I have only been able to install in 2.whatever. Is there somewhere where we might be able to register to be notified with this Texture Mod IS available ? -
If your bored, here is a pretty interesting video. We all rely heavily on quality GPU's to have flawless high-end graphics. So here is "Exclusive behind the Scenes tour of Nvidia’s Failure Lab".

There is no doubt you are a worthy adversary to many of us. While that may not be how we refer to you when we get shot down, it's all in fun. hehe ! It's good to have there as often as you like. Cheers

Which SU-25 has the most Versatile Capabilities ?
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
Excellent Replies. Thanks to all who replied. I appreciate ALL the information provided. While I am pretty set on the higher-tech "T" model, I'm not sure I shouldn't at least try the "A" model ... OR Train in the SU-25 and then advance to the "T" model .... as they might in real life !!? Just Guessing. I appreciate the Links as well. Certainly this gives me lots to think about. BTW - It's Odd that DCS chose to provide the more potent SU-25 free along with DCS World, considering you can't even fire a fart with the TF-51. This is what had me confused when initially trying to figure which one I wanted to fly. I was thinking the Purchased model (SU-25A) must bring much more to the table (so-to-speak) !! WRONG ! Regardless, I have no regrets purchasing the "A" model, if even under false pretenses (by my own doing). As it turns out, I think this has become a good thread for others, who for the first time may be considering flying (and/or purchasing) the Frogfoot. Thanks again to everyone. -
Is it possible (or Un-Advisable ?) to Combine This Mod with other English Cockpit Mods for the same plane ? For example, I have an English Cockpit Mod that has Everything BUT the Warning Lights Panel in English. Can I use your Mod AND the other Mod at the same time so I end up with Everything being English ? If I have to find out on my own, it might be a while before I do try it and report back here. So if anyone already knows the answer, it might save me and others some grief !! Thanks in Advance.

I'm just getting ready to start learning the SU-25 but I'm a little confused as to which one I want to start in !! I'm pretty sure the SU-25T is the one that came with DCS World. In the case of the Mustang, we got the "lesser" of the two types with DCS World (that is, the TF-51D is NOT a fighter - Trainer Only). But I don't think this is the case with regards to the SU-25T. In fact, I think the "T" or "Tank" model has a TV Display screen (Targeting TV ?) that the Paid For Version, the SU-25 does NOT have this. Am I mistaken OR is there a way to equip the SU-25 with the Targeting TV. I want to learn to fly the "meanest" and most versatile of the 2 models. Which do you recommend I jump into ? Are there any really obvious benefits or advantages of one model versus the other ?

I deleted this mission a long time ago. I never got a reply from when I posted in Aug. 2015, so with no ability to progress through the campaign from the point where I got stuck, there was no sense carrying this file on my hard drive any longer. I'm sure one of the factors that prevents anyone from updating this file/mission/campaign, is the fact that the ME continues to be worked on along with DCS World 1.5 and 2 etc. Most mission designers are having great difficulties maintaining mission work-ability because of continuous changes to DCS World. So I get it.
-
That's really all I care about. "Versatility" is the key word. I think that is more important than "reality" because it gives us the ability to be as real or as fictitious with mission creation as we want. Thanks ED for all you have done to date and for that you continue to strive towards.

I actually don't understand how it can be a copyright infringement. It isn't an infringement to have Photos, nor did Google Earth have any issues (that I'm aware of). ALL of the casinos were 3D Modeled by people such as myself without any issue. All of those 3D Models remain in place in Google Earth.
