It was a fun day yesterday with the help of GCI and the Flyboys who were covering us. I was pretty sure I recognized your handle "Fakum" while I was in there. I look forward to flying with you some time. I do get on in the early evenings (Eastern Time Zone) but I don't stay on too late when I do. Good luck with the setup. Once you get the hang of the many Gazelle Models I'm sure you will really enjoy flying all of them (although I rarely take the gattling gun model out).

Hi Fakum It pays to look at the "Second Joystick for Camera" checkbox after Updates. Sometimes the Update will fill-in or Check that checkbox. It must be UNCHECKED for your Joystick (aka Cyclic) to slew the Viviane. The stick works like a very fine-tuned version of the slew controls compared to any Hat you set up to also slew the controls. I have a Thumb Hat on my Stick that I used to Fast Slew the Viviane Camera AND I have a Push function (5th axis) on my Hat to Reset or return the Vivian to Center. I also use 2 positions of a Hat (1 axis .. forward and back) on my Hotas Warthog to Zoom In/Out. Any switch or hat could be used for Zoom. The Hat on my stick for fast slewing and centering is great BUT for Fine Tuned Controls AND if/when having to steer the Hot3 to the target (eg: moving target), I definitely then use my Stick to slew slower but with more accurate control. I try to fly on the 104th Phoenix Server every morning around 10am or 11am EST if you need any help with the Gazelle. I have been flying it since it was released. I love it and I'm getting deadlier by the day. I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

2 Issues - Viviane Tracking and RWR Needs Update
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yup. I know you guys are correct about the DOP. I'm not sure why I thought it should be a "directional" thing (even though it was in the very beginning). So please disregard my comments regarding the DOP. But I know I'm not the only one who would like the functions mentioned in my First Post addressed ASAP. Please and Thanks. Thanks for the replies guys and for correcting me without treating me like an idiot (even though my request was a bit idiotic !). -
2 Issues - Viviane Tracking and RWR Needs Update
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Bugs and Problems
Dang I just went offline a minute ago. I'll get some pics either later today or some time Sunday. In the meantime, thanks for the quick reply. -
@Alpenwolf Thanks for that information. It sounds like a better choice for me will be the "L" model then. I considered the Mistral but it appears there are several candidates for that already, so I'll be happy with the SA342L. Thanks for the clarification regarding the "M" model and thanks for the opportunity to participate in this tournament.

2 Issues - Viviane Tracking and RWR Needs Update
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'd like to add one other item that I believe is incorrect and should be easy to remedy quickly (I can only hope). The Vertical Bar in the NADIR/ADF Indicator appears to be working backwards to that which I believe to be correct. When the "Vertical Bar Source Selector Knob" is turned to "DOP" (for the NADIR Waypoint), the Vertical Bar should reflect the direct one must go to get to the current WP. For Example: If the Vertical Bar is to the Right of Center, then one should have to steer to the Right (steer towards the Vertical Bar) to get on and stay on course. It seems counter-intuitive especially when navigating in a fixed wing aircraft and using the equivalent vertical bar in an HSI to stay on glide slope for landing, one must steer towards the vertical bar. However, the way it works now is when the Vertical Bar is to the Right of Center, we have to Steer Left to get back on course. Surely, it is not "supposed" to be like this ? In fact, I recall a time when it didn't work as it does now ... it actually worked correctly. Furthermore, when the "Vertical Bar Source Selector Knob" is set to "VIS" (VISEE – Camera Target Point), we have to steer Towards the Vertical Bar in order to point the Gazelle's nose, and more importantly, the HOT3's towards the target (or wherever the Viviane is currently pointing). Can this instrument correction also be included in a Future Update SOON Please ? {of course I'm assuming that it currently is broken and therefore requires correction as described !!!} -
SnowTiger SA342M (preferably if available) OR SA342L

Flying the SA342M by myself (multiplayer server) I Lock and Range a target using the Viviane. Then when I hit "SLAVED" to get the Hot3 lined up correctly, the Viviane Camera VIEW goes completely and wildly Off Target, requiring more time to zoom out, relocate and then reacquire the target. This leaves a hovering target vulnerable for much longer than should be necessary. Can you please address this issue soon ? Another thing that all Gazelle Pilots will surely also equally appreciate would be to get the RWR Symbology Updated ASAP. Currently, aircraft such as the F-18 and "maybe" the Mirage? are shown as U (aka Unknown). So you are trying to call the Buddy Spike, thinking it's an F-18 and you get shot up the keister by a Mirage instead. Because more than 1 aircraft type in DCS shows up as Unknown, it takes an extended time to determine if it's Friend or Foe (and some servers/missions have F-18's on Both Blue and Red Teams). So calling "Buddy Buddy" with hopes of a quick reply to prevent a Team Kill is Unnecessarily Time Consuming ... and results in many preventable deaths. Especially, when you don't know if its an F-18 or something else. I would greatly appreciate a fast resolution to both of these issues. Thanks in Advance PolyChop.

@corel3 With regards to the copilot/weapons officer being able to slew the camera, please first check DCS Options / SPECIAL Tab / Select SA342 on the Left Side of the screen. Then look at the list of option check boxes on the Right Side of the screen. Make sure "SECOND JOYSTICK FOR CAMERA" is Unchecked (NOT Checked). "I think" this is the difference between a single player doing both rolls versus having another human running the weapons while you fly. Sometimes the "Second Joystick" option gets changed (checked) with Updates as it did a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure about the other problems you are facing but they may not be bugs but rather Options Settings. Or ... they could be bugs ... who am to know. But the Second Joystick Checkbox should resolve your Camera Cursor problem.

Is it just me or have the Mirror Reflections been reversed ? The animation of the pilot's head in the rear view mirror are a bit short of impressive as of yet however, the other day when I flew, all I could see what the BACK of the Pilot's Head ... as if he were sitting backwards (or as if you were looking at the back of the passenger's head .. but in the mirror). Anyone else notice this ?

Cockpit Instruments Blurry with NVG's On.
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Polychop-Simulations
I don't have a problem believing RL pilots will look under NVG's. That's a little more difficult in Sim. While the earlier version of NVG's for the Gazelle may well have not been realistic, one could argue that it was a reasonable replacement ... like Auto Pilot in the UH-1h. I have downloaded the Mod but haven't installed it yet because I was trying to eliminate an unrelated issue ... which I seem to finally have resolved. So I'll be trying it out very soon. Thanks for that. -
Cockpit Instruments Blurry with NVG's On.
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Polychop-Simulations
I guess I'm going to have to track down the videos then (one of which was posted in FB over the last few days). The view showed both inside and outside the cockpit at the same time. It was a diagonal view towards 2 o'clock so you could see the top right and center MFD's as well as the terrain outside. Both were very legible. That's why I bring this up. That said, the NVG's in the F18 and/or the cockpit clarity are definitely much better. Furthermore, we used to be able to see the cockpit clearly, albeit dimly (because the contrast had to be turned down to view inside) a year or two ago. Finally, this shouldn't be an issue of FOCUS. NVG's we use in DCS do NOT have a Zoom function. They are a 1:1 ratio. So it's not a matter of focusing inside versus outside. It's more like looking through glasses that provide the ability to see using star or moon light. With the lights off or dimmed in the cockpit, one should easily be able to read the instruments. How in hell would anyone navigate if they cannot see the inside of the cockpit with NVG's on in RL ? You can't tell me (or rather I'd never believe it) that a chopper pilot (or any pilot) would need to remove the NVG's just to view their instruments. The arguments in this thread are make no sense to me at all. We were able to see before and now we can't. And I don't believe this is accurate. I believe what is represented in the F18 now and what was represented in the Gazelle previously is more realistic and certain WAY MORE USEFUL. Otherwise, the Current NVG's for the F18 are inaccurate ! Which is it ? -
Cockpit Instruments Blurry with NVG's On.
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Polychop-Simulations
I've seen a couple videos of DCS F18's flying with NVG's and their cockpit controls are pretty legible. It's completely illegible in the Gazelle. So while being able to see outside the cockpit to know if you are going to crash into something is great, but for the sake of navigating or operating videos etc, it is extremely difficult. -
This may sound too obvious and therefore stupid, but is the propeller treated as a Solid Object or more like Trees used to be ? I'm sure I have no idea what I'm talking about but thought I'd display my ignorance anyway. LOL

As it turns out, not even my last message was correct. There are charts (stats/specs/stunt flight info etc) but for some reason, the Left/Right Bracket keys were not changing the pages until I closed everything and restarted.
-
I agree Shahdoh. I managed to kill it by crashing into a building but otherwise I can't seem to hurt the prop or kill the engine. PS> @grunf I'm going to take back comments in my last post re: Kneeboard. As it turns out. all my WP's were able to fit on a single page. However, while it may simply be a CE2 thing that the Airport Charts are not included, I certainly can't change pages to see if there are any other pages. I can only assume there are no others (only pages as necessary for the WP's provided in the ME). Furthermore, I was just flying in the 104th Phoenix Server (until I got dumped twice for Connection Timed Out BS) where the kneeboard worked fine. So for now I'm going to say there are no issues with the kneeboard at all let alone in the CE2.
-
BTW - The latest (today) update has killed the Kneeboard in the CE2. I'm not sure of any other aircraft modules yet. The Kneeboard comes on and I can mark my location BUT I can NOT change Pages now !!

Jabbers' Christen Eagle II Module Giveaway Announcement
SnowTiger replied to Jabbers_'s topic in Christen Eagle II
Thanks Jabbers. The issue for me is that I do not have (nor want) Twitter. But from your link it appears that it may have something to do with the fact that my FB account and my Twitch account use 2 different names (which is silly but whatever). I never used my real name in FB for 20 years either until my account got locked out and FB demanding Photo ID (to which I said "F U"). I used to be Rumple_Stilskin. FB decided they didn't like that ... even though there remains about 100 other RS's !! Anyway, I guess I'm screwed for this contest OR live with only one entry or the other. Or as it currently stands ... ZERO Entries. Thanks -
Thanks Lixma 06 That pretty much proves your point. BTW FragBum, I also found this video to be helpful to see the sensitivity of the stick versus control surfaces. I guess I'm going to reduce my Y Saturation (I'll need a little bit so I can stay level ... even when I blink !).
-
And in my experience, I have yet to see ANY prop damage no matter what I have done. I haven't augured into the ground yet (so-to-speak) but I have done a few head stands (on the nose), sometimes falling back onto the wheels and other times landing upside-down. And Thanks for the Bug Reporting Tool Link. But it might take a while to figure out the Filters in order to make the report.
-
I'm not going to say "it's normal" because I have no idea. I have only had this stick for a few months and still have no idea how to utilize the software (although I have the stick working as I like having effected only one function). All I was saying is that what you see in your screenshots is what I saw. Whether or not it is normal or "proper" is a question for those with much more experience than I have. That said, I found that by tightening the Clutches ever so slightly, I was able to eliminate the osculations of the stick. So rather than it pendulum'ing back and forth beyond the center/neutral point, the stick now returns to center and stays there, while still being very sensitive to the touch. I think this was a case of preference rather than correctness.
-
That is pretty much the same response profiles I would see before I added a "slight" amount of tension on the clutches.
-
I agree Shahdoh that it is a very fun aircraft to fly. And I'm almost glad the prop didn't get damaged on my first few tries ... would have made for a longer learning curve having to restart the mission each time I did a nose-over. I've had the CE2 standing right on it's nose and the prop doesn't lose a beat !! LOL. @Heromachi >> You mentioned "If it's not working than this is a bug and should be reported (in Mantis preferably)." I don't know what Mantis is !! Should "I" Report it to/in Mantis ? And if so, can you please direct me to the appropriate location to do that ? Thanks
-
Okay that makes sense. Thanks.
