Training Missions updates and downloads
SnowTiger replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Training Missions
Okay that's good. I can make them work (by changing the file name to get rid of the *_ which works). I'll retry the Maverick Tutorial again today and get back to you. Thanks again for all your hard work. -
Training Missions updates and downloads
SnowTiger replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Training Missions
At the risk of sounding a bit thick betwixt the ears, I actually don't know what to do with the PDF Kneeboard documents. Should they be installed in a custom-created "Kneeboard" folder in Saved Games/Open Beta/.. ... ? Or do they go somewhere else ? Furthermore, should they remain in the Folder called "__MACOSX" ? Or should I Unzip the PDF's from this folder to the newly created Kneeboard Folder (because I don't already have a Kneeboard folder) ? And finally, with regards to the PDF's, should there be any issue with the PDF File Names starting with "._Kneeboard" ? The ._ portion of the name seems odd AND when I try to open the file directly by double clicking on it, Adobe Reader gives me a bit of a hard time (and message) regarding the File Type or File Name .... Adobe says it can't read it or open it because it's not an Adobe File (or something to that effect. So as usual, I'm completely confused although I managed to follow the instructions to install your Training Files to the Main DCS Install Folder. -
Thanks for the prompt reply. It's true I had no VO's during the IR Mavs Tutorial. I thought it was odd but not unheard of. But thanks for letting me know. I will most certainly look into this in the morning. At the very least I will do a Repair on my install. I'll let you know the results as soon as I can try it out. I'll try to navigate my way back to the main thread to find that post to see if I've missed something or failed to do something correctly. Thanks again.

I think there are a couple things that I would first consider prior to purchasing the Harrier. It is an excellent Module and an excellent aircraft in general. When it was first released, I was taking off and landing (conventional TO's and Lndgs as well as Short) in no time. I actually did my first ever Air Refueling in the Harrier. However, after two weeks I stopped to wait until more functionality was included. I just recommenced training a week ago (I have about 6 hours total now) and I'm already finding it difficult to execute "good" TO's and Landings, conventional and short). Two Things I would first consider are: 1) Do like Real Life Pilots do. Many (if not all ?) have previous Helicopter Flight Experience. It definitely can help when hovering the AV8B/N and moving around in Hover mode. So if you haven't flown the Huey or Gazelle yet, I recommend you grab one of those and learn to fly and hover them. The UH-1h Huey is a perfect Module to learn helicopters and hovering. 2) I am very fortunate to have been able to invest in a VKB Gunfighter II with MCG Pro (no extension yet). It has all the buttons anyone will ever need for any aircraft that I can think of, short of maybe the Space Shuttle ! I also purchased the Warthog Throttle too. My previous Hotas was the X-55 Rhino which also is an excellent Hotas. It has plenty of buttons etc to program. The More Functions you can program into a Hotas, the easier it will be to Learn and ultimately Fly in Combat Missions (IMO). While the Rhino was (and is) and excellent Hotas for the investment, I don't know how I would have fared with the Harrier had I continued using it, knowing all the things that are available on the RL Harrier Cockpit Hotas. If you are good at clicking at the keyboard and/or using your mouse in a Clickable Cockpit, then go for it (re: Harrier). Most ppl who are flying the Harrier have less functional Flight Sticks than the VKB/MCG Pro and seem to be doing just fine. But I don't know how they do it. But that's just me. Good luck with your current decision. In the long run, you should know that the AV8B/N is a Great Module, but it does have a fairly complex learning curve.

Training Mission 02: Cold Start - bugs and feedback
SnowTiger replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Training Missions
Regarding the Fuel Shut Off and Park Brake Lever >>> They are in a tricky spot to get at, so I recommend that Both be programmed to your Hotas Throttle. It makes access very simple and thus far less time consuming. Re: Brake > I have my Hotas button configured for Releasing the Brake Only. It's easy to find and access with the mouse to re-engage it if/when necessary. -
I tend to agree with these opinions. When the Harrier was first released, the Tutorials seems far easier to follow. I know systems were limited but I could follow the instructions. I prefer voice-over tutorials myself over reading text in a tutorial, especially when you are approaching a target; having to read the instructions; and having to execute the requirements to get all set up. I went through the Training Mission 17 today and had difficulty executing an attack. I know that much of my problem is trying to remember how my Hotas is configured and that will come in time. But I couldn't seem to get a sense of the exact procedures to follow to attack and repeat attacking using the Mavs (today is the first time I ever fired Mavs). I think I'd almost be happy with a simple, step-by-step List of Procedures in the Kneeboard (which btw doesn't seem to be working on my system ... I can't change pages ... 1 page only). All that said, I appreciate that so much time has obviously been put towards creating and developing these Tutorials, so trust that I am very grateful for all the efforts. I just wish they were a little bit simpler (if that's possible) and had voice instead of just text. And yes, if I wasn't a classic ADD'r all of the training would likely be simpler for me. Thanks for all you do.

BTW - The BEST WAY to know how accurate the Cyclic is (compared to how you might have your stick set up) is to watch Actual Pilots flying the Gazelle. Pretty much the entire 3rd Episode of "Flying Soldiers" (a BBC mini-series re: Gazelle Pilots in Training). Throughout this episode are several great views of the Cyclic being used. This helped me tremendously when it came to setting up my stick. The fact is, in the actual aircraft, the cyclic is barely moved more than an inch or 1.5 inches off center for practically all parts of any flight (other than the most severe turns etc). I HIGHLY recommend Gazelle Pilots (new and experienced) to watch the Entire Series (6 episodes) OR at the very least, Episode 3 in its entirety. I'm sure you will enjoy it and benefit from it. Here's the URL >>

If anyone having difficulties learning to fly the Gazelle wants some help, I'm more than happy and willing to spend time with you in the Server of your choice as long as we have Voice Comms. Anyone Interested is welcome to PM me and make arrangements to hook up online. I'm in Ontario, Canada (Eastern aka Toronto Time) but I'll work with people in other time zones as best I can. I believe I can have practically anyone flying comfortably in a short period of time. I can help with the Nadir as well (current waypoint; custom waypoints; Long/Lat conversion calculations).

I agree with FragBum that the Gazelle is actually quite easy to fly once you get the hang of it. I started in the Huey which was a huge help when it came to the Gazelle's flight characteristics. I rarely move my stick/cyclic more than maybe 1 inch in any direction EVER. Most of the time I rely solely on the Trim to fly with very small adjustment inputs with the stick/cyclic when necessary. The only time I am flying and relying on the stick alone is when I have to do some "hotdogging" type flying. Even then, I set my trim for speed and then steer as need be. BTW - I have adjusted my Y Saturation to 80% and have a Deadzone of 3 for the Center Detente. With that minimal deadzone, I have very smooth, deliberate flights. Now if only PolyChop would Fix the Issues ! https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3852868#post3852868

2 Issues - Viviane Tracking and RWR Needs Update
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm really getting frustrated with the Gazelle. I'd really like for it to be fixed but it seems to be being completely ignored. I have been killed So Many Times unnecessarily due to the vivianne going stupid when hovering and putting into Slave mode. Then not only does it take time to relocate the target but you have to wait 5+ seconds before the bloody camera will pan at all. Furthermore the Laser Range Finder is complete on drugs. Half the time when it isn't working correctly, it's actually not working at all. The other half of the time it is simply incorrect. I have wasted 7 HOT3's in 2 flights due to the range inaccuracy. PolyChop you really need to address these issues ASAP. At the very least, please reply and let us know if you plan on fixing these serious shortfalls any time soon so we can know whether to hold on or to give up on all things PolyChop ! I certainly won't be purchasing any other modules (i.e. BoP) until this rig is fixed. That said, while it would be nice if the Multi-crew was working again (it worked great at one time ... long ago), I actually don't care if it ever works again as long as these other issues are addressed. Currently, the Gazelle "M" model is all but Useless. -
Hi utopic Have you found the answers and help you need yet ? I have done minimal work with the Profiler but I got my VKB MCG Pro working the way I want. I might be able to help you out. But I prefer Speech over Text. If you like, please PM me and we can arrange to hook up on Discord or TeamSpeak ASAP to get you on your way. Chris aka SnowTiger

I haven't even attempted to create a mission requiring triggers etc since DCS 1.2 and I wasn't any good at it then. So for sure I have No Idea what can and cannot be done using ME today. But based on your premise one would think that it should be possible although I have no idea how one would do that. However, if DCS's ME were based on Logic-type scripting, I would think that there could be a List of Responses (that could include voice and/or text scripts) that could be selected Run during any specific triggered situation where the script used "IF", "Else" and "EndIf" type prompts. Quoted from the Interwebs ! "An IF statement is a control structure that you can use to process scripts depending on the result that a condition supplies. A condition is a logical expression. ... When the IF block does not contain an :ELSE branch, it continues with the next line that follows the :ENDIF statement." Maybe there is an equivalent structure in DCS's ME that might be able to achieve this same result ? I hope this makes some sense to you and others because I've already pretty much confused myself !!

2 Issues - Viviane Tracking and RWR Needs Update
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Bugs and Problems
PS> Another issue that needs to be resolved is the Laser Range Finder. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it'll provide a range that isn't even close (or that doesn't change no matter where you look). One thing I have tried to do to resolve it is to turn off the "IR Power Knob" to Standby as much as possible (something I NEVER had to do in the past). This can sometimes help when the Range Finder was working during a flight but stopped working after taking a shot (or whenever it decides to stop working). But the IR Power Knob doesn't seem to make any difference to correct the issue when the range finder simply isn't working at all. I have no idea why the IR Power Knob fixes ANYTHING to do with the Laser but it "appears to" sometimes. Overall, there are some serious things that need to be addressed with the Gazelle to make it even remotely effective in battle. Especially when every second counts. -
2 Issues - Viviane Tracking and RWR Needs Update
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Bugs and Problems
I can live with the RWR showing "U" for the F-18 and the F-14 IF that is realistic, however I can't imagine that either of those are so new to the Gazelle that it doesn't recognize either. But what REALLY DOES NEED to be fixed ASAP is the blasted Vivienne going all wonky every time you slave the camera. Getting close enough to a target to shoot it is hard enough when the vast majority of enemy weapons shoot way further than the Gazelle's HOT 3's. So when you find a target, zoom in and laser range find it, the cross hairs "used to" stay locked on the target whether you were stationary or on the move. The cross hairs certainly stayed on the target when it's put in Slave Mode too. But now the camera bob's way down and then WAAYYY up and even then it takes a few more seconds before even the Ability to Slew is re-enabled again. All this time adds up and when seconds count, we cannot afford to be pissing around with camera alignment. Especially when we take so much time and care to locate, lock and approach a target (well within its range) so that we can even hit it. Polychop PLEASE fix this issue ASAP. -
I couldn't agree more. Blue only had a couple Mistrals that can lock onto an air-to-air target and even then they only carry 4 rounds each, versus the Blackshark which carries a pile of shkvals. "IF" the M models worked as far as multi-crew goes, there might have been a bit of an equalization, but multi-crew doesn't work and there was only a couple M models in the fight. It's true that Blue wasn't really that coordinated regardless what aircraft we had. There was really no Team Plan or play. But when you can stand off with the BS and just pick off aircraft umpteen times before rearming, it's going to be a bit lop-sided. I still enjoyed myself. I know what mistakes I made. But I could see before the fight even started, that Blue Team was vastly outnumbered with capable aircraft.

F-5E RWR search filter fix
SnowTiger replied to Beamscanner's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
So DOES this mod/fix still work in the current OpenBeta ? (providing it is put in the main DCS install folder and not Saved Games) -
Thanks. I just came online to make a bug report but gladly found this first. I only learned of the HUD issue today. Thanks again for creating and sharing this temporary fix.

Comprehensive VAC profiles for DCS World
SnowTiger replied to Stretch's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm not opposed to new software IF Needed, but I was truly hoping what I already have still works and is likely sufficient for all I intend to use it for. And IF I need to increase functionality, then I can consider an alternative such as VoiceAttack. I appreciate both replies to my post/questions. But the latter is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm going to get onto it right away (and stop just thinking about it !). -
Comprehensive VAC profiles for DCS World
SnowTiger replied to Stretch's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I purchased this program a few years ago but never set it up. Now I have a new system which has Windows 10 on it. Does anybody know IF VAC will work in Windows 10 and/or if I have to do anything particular to get it to work on Win 10 ? And finally, for those familiar with VAC, are you also familiar with VoiceAttack ? What are your opinions of each and should I consider purchasing the latter ? I have to say, neither looks easy to set up. They both look like they can get very complicated while being able to do some amazing things once you get the hang of it. -
Map Labels - When will we ever see them again ?
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Sure that works as a work-around to having things working as they should and previously did. But I appreciate you taking the time to reply. -
Have you had any luck contacting him in Discord ? If not, let me know and I'll get a message to him. I haven't been on Discord in a while but I have him in my Friends List. I know him from my DoW days.
-
Does anyone know if Blue Team intends to get together for some type of practice run ? Or are we gonna just Wing It ?
-
No GCI ? That might suck. How about Team Leaders ? Or are we all "lone wolf'ing" it ? Either way, I can hardly wait.
-
My In-Game Name is [DoW] SnowTiger. I have downloaded the mission and took a quick flight to the airports but didn't see anything. However, I have taken another look at the mission. I guess I just got there too early for anything else to arrive (and it was Single Player). I'll figure it out.

I'd love to hook up with someone familiar with the mission and specific responsibilities of each of the aircraft (or flight groups etc). Just to have a few minutes familiarity with whatever it is I specifically might have to do in a SA342"L". PS> I am in Ontario, Canada ... Eastern Time Zone. My "best" time of day is from 10am to 2pm but anything prior to 8pm is better for me.
