  1. Looking forward to seeing what the Sapphire 6900XT Nitro turns out like. Between that and some AIB 3080Ti for me.
  2. JayzTwoCents released a video yesterday that showed Control only going to 570MHz. Able to work around via "jumping" but it still sucked. Driver issue. Patience is a virtue - or so I hear.
  3. F-22... Growling Sidewinder has been doing a lot of video with a borked user module... or is he on closed beta? :stirpot:
  4. If you are experiencing lag it is doubtful the issue is on the local system (unless you are running on a potato and/or your local network has issues). I would be looking at the routing and measuring latency between segments to see if the issue lies there as a start.
  5. 1.) What is the problem you are trying to solve? 2.) If you don't know the ins and out of TCP/IP, especially when working with an inherently flawed stack as implemented in Windows, don't touch it.
  6. Too bad you couldn't stick the seaplane tender to the bottom of the model so you could land on any water anywhere.
  7. I wouldn't bother upgrading the 3800X. The relative difference is not worth it at this point. Maybe when Intel's Rocket Lake is out and AMD starts dropping prices very low reconsider it. Your board will handle Ryzen 3 with no issues.
  8. Make sure you are using the correct driver for your mouse. If you have a generic two button mouse driver loaded versus the driver from the manufacturer for your mouse for example.
  9. FWIW, it is impressive the amount of back-filling of features that has been added to the F-16 and F-18 over a short period of time. Seems every month or two there is a big release with more systems implemented. I can't speak to the others.
  10. Addition of more aircraft is fantabulous! Keep it up!
  11. The Mossie is going to have a pilot position and a navigator position which are side by side and it's an ED mod so there's that.
  12. I like blasting around in the F5 as well (no combat). If you are enjoying 'just flying around' you should try the Yak. It's a fun little ship and I do a lot of free-flight 'touring' with it. I have pretty much all the modules and the ones I gravitate to fairly regularly are the F-18, Yak, Spit, Stang, 109, F-86, F-5, and L-39. About 50-70% of my time in DCS is just free-flight in the Yak though. :) 10-20% is combat, the rest messing around populating maps and creating scenarios in the ME. I'll probably start using the helos more often once I get around to building a collective. Life's busy enough. Some days I just can't be bothered with the additional load of virtual combat but really enjoy the flight experience that DCS provides. I have MSFS2020 but basically never ran it other than the hour or two trying it out on the day I bought it. When I do combat it tends to be WW2 stuff - no need to re-familiarise myself with the systems because I haven't touched it in a while. I still suck at Fox[1-3] combat in the jets and haven't had the inclination to sink the time into it. It'll come. I kinda got put off by combat in the F5 when I first got it. After reading your post I want to revist and turn down the AI skill level.
  13. Another random thought... ED has been working hard on adding/improving the underwater 'landscape' in their terrains. The intention is to add subs - did I read that somewhere? ASW? It's kind of a missing genre in game currently. P-3 with involved multi-crew and/or a carrier based ASW rig? <sorry not up on US Navy carrier based ASW stuff - S3?> ASW is not logistical per se so can't use that argument; the Anubis Super Herc shows how practical/graceful a Super Herc can be so similar performance envelope I guess in spite of having a pair of engines slaved together... code changes... Carrier borne ASW is only two engine so maybe that is more realistic as an ED deliverable and slots into the Supercarrier milieu nicely. Probably can discount this thought right away - lots of work to do to deliver this.
  14. 111... Century aircraft...? I doubt it's the 111, seems kind of esoteric with not a lot of broad appeal. Don't get me wrong, i like the plane and would most likely buy it just to experience the ejection process with the "capsule". Seems kind of like a module more likely done by a third party to me.
  15. 5800X + 6900XT is going to rock - might not even need to fork a DCS server to off-load compute. IIRC 4000MHz w/ low CL RAM is the sweet spot for 5X00X CPUs - can't find where I saw that - too lazy to do the math - first coffee of the day - don't put too much stock into it without doing your own research. (caveats around BIOS and video driver quality apply - might not want to be an early adopter if you aren't technically savvy)
  16. For a different take on the requirements - what aircraft is currently missing that ED's military contractees would really like to see? Two birds with one stone and all that.
  17. If it's more thsn $1k it's DOA.
  18. NV is notorious for releasing a new driver that increases performance also.
  19. Yeah, that and the U2 might fit from that perspective but it doesn't really fit the map scale. The landing approach on both is probably at least from Tbilisi to Bulgaria. Ha!
  20. "Mind melting" What does that mean - really? Looking at DCS applicable aircraft over the last 100 years I can't think of any that really fit that description. Was it a slip of the marketing speak, a frame of reference issue, exaggeration? What if it is referring to the game play aspect and not the physical parameters of the aircraft? Reference to a multi-player paradigm we haven't seen yet? Better, fire and forget AI? I suppose mind melting could refer to stealth - F-117 is obvious candidate - but I'm not sure it really fits - the stealth aspect is probably just novelty in the DCS environment. Personally, I'd like to see team Redforce get some love. It's probably not practical for all the reasons already posted in the thread and elsewhere. However, I'm looking forward to the announced HiFi Mig-29A. Would love a HiFi Su-27-33. And I really like the idea of a HiFi Su-34. If the Su-34 teasing pictures are on topic I'm ok with that - first day purchase when it hits EA. What if there is a bunch of FUD in all the things posted in the past by ED about what it is or isn't. If it's an "under cover" F-4 I'd be ok with that too. See the multi-player reference above. The multi-player thing has lots of applications (also the in-bound Mossie, existing helos) so maybe it is something they've been working on. I always find that it seems like ED promises features (like multi-player in the helos) but then can't deliver in a timely manner because of dependencies on other modules/code... at least that is what it seems like when features take longer than expected and other code gets changed in the meantime. The people at ED must work long hours to get the amount of releases we get out there on a fairly regular cadence. Maybe "mind melting" refers to what it is doing to the ED staff! Ha! Whatever it is I hope it helps back-fill some of the holes in the range of aircraft we have in the various time frames within DCS. Modern Fox 3 Redforce would be cool too but unlikely even though it seems it is needed in DCS.
  21. Also, for anyone still considering NVIDIA for your next purchase... WAIT! Rumour mill is spinning overtime saying there will be a "re-mix" of the line with more Cuda cores per model level and more RAM. This is new/after the recent 20GB 3080 rumours were killed.
  22. The problem with these benchmarks is that other than presenting a general trend they really don't mean anything for a person building a machine to run DCS. By trend I mean they basically present the performance ranking of the hardware sets in a stochastic way... sorta. From what I've seen of the benchmarks that are out there the only one that gives a real indication of the performance in DCS is the MSFS 2020 benchmarks. And by real indication I mean again a trend, not actual FPS of course. I haven't been following the latest benchmarks with the new AMD hardware that closely but in my mind if you were considering the 3080 or 3090 then the 6900XT is making a lot more sense from a performance and cost point of view. The only thing that gives me pause is whether the memory bandwidth of the AMD card will be able to match the NV cards in 4K and/or VR. I don't know if the smart access memory model for CPU+GPU can make up for this. Perhaps since DCS is so CPU bound anyway the lack of memory bandwidth does not translate into a real difference in the FPS one would experience. I guess we'll know more when the real MSFS2020 benchmarks start appearing. At any rate, all these new cards mostly destroy the 2080Ti so we all win regardless of what we settle upon. $0.02

    April-May IIRC.
  24. Really exciting news (La-7). Hope it comes to DCS - first day buy for me! I have MSFS but never use it.
  25. I figured I'd ride out to the next Intel generation - expected AMD to only get around Intel numbers on single core. Now I'm thinking the gaming rig I built in Jine (10700k) will get turned into a workstation (my current Linux box is long in the tooth - 3770k) and I'll jump on a AMD CPU/mobo for DCS.
