Also important to know that lasers in DCS have a very hard edge to their maximum range. (10km, about 5 miles IIRC somebody correct me on this if i'm wrong please) Altitude + distance (slant range) can easily exceed it in the perfect visibilty circumstances the sim often gives.

Helo pack would also get you like 6 SP campaigns + 4 sets of training missions to git gud at. Defo best value atm.

whooo boy I need to hang my head in shame. The fault was not with the mission but with my flying. Yesterday I tried it again and did a little closer reading and looking at the briefing materials. Turns out I had been doing it wrong. After the touch-and-go you need to do a circuit starting with a right-hand turn. Turns out I turned left, getting into the other airfields' pattern. Stupid $##%@ me lol. So I did a right hand circuit, flying over the village north of the airbase and everything went smooth and as planned. Of course I managed to break the script for M2 as well. Need to refly that one too. I recon flying these things needs a little more precision and attention to detail than I am used to :P

any idea when the cockpit lighting will be fixed
schurem replied to Johnny_Rico's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Just downloaded your fix, am about to do some day/night testing in VR (oculus). OK; here's my findings. In Caucasus day and Nevada day it makes the buttons usable again. That is a good thing. At night it doesn't do much as the buttons do not light up and there's not enough contrast to easily see which one is on. I did not really like what you did to the windows. They are too clean now, making it seem almost like they aren't there. But that's just my opinion. I also completely and utterly forgot how to fly the Kamov. I wallowed around like a drunken bumblebee, unable to target or fire. Back to school I go! -
Launch speed, altitude and attitude matter a LOT. The same missile launched at 350kts at sea level is almost not BVR at all while it can blast a non-maneouvering supersonic target from across the solar system if launched at angels 40 and mach 2.

it is \users\username\saved games\DCS\config\view\labels.lua if that file does not exist, copy the one from \DCS\config\view and make edits using notepad+ to your hearts content.

I use dot labels. They overcome the limitations of technology (resolution mostly). Fair has little to do with it. Why didn't you make a poll?

That'd be great, thanks in advance!

What are ED planning when it comes to clouds and how far away are the improvements?

Hi @baltic_dragon, I have just finished with the Mirage training and was going to enjoy your work in the campaign (already bought part2; red flag as well). But I think I've hit a snag quite early on: At the end of the flight, the instructor tells me to do a touch and go at Viziani and then land. The game tells me to use the F10 menu and not the F5 one for contacting the tower. I do as instructed and land twice, coming to a full stop on the 2nd one. I park it where its supposed to go in the briefing and the game tells me mission complete you may leave. Now when I click the end mission button and start the next mission, I get the 1st one again. Have I failed it somehow? It didnt tell me I had. There's also a suspicious lack of chatter after I get permission from tower to go shoot some approaches. Do you need a track? cheers, schurem.

Eh, there's worse things in the world. Fix would be nice tho.

Alas, not fixed as per ver. 2.5.3.21016

Assign Axis dialogue fails to open
schurem replied to Nealius's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
It does open but only after a LOOOOOONG while and then breaks the oculus rift. -
About a minute into the mission, having just told the wing to go hot and active. The RWR just started screaming incoming radar missile... dcs.log-20180827-174408.zip

HaHa funny That should do it. Perhaps there are more ways?

ACM mode are a couple of radar modes that are meant for Air Combat Maneouvering. They are short range and lock automatically the first target that enters the search area. Most common are Boresight (narrow circle), HUD seek (large circle) and Vertical Scan (two vertical lines on HUD). Hope this helps. I usually can get back to search mode by punching my "unlock target" button.

We will see them in our SIM someday. Two more weeks, be sure.

But how do I optimise if I am happy with the performance for flight nr1 and flight nr2 but nr3 and on get progressively worse?
-
Hi guys, For a while now I have been getting fine performance in DCS. 2.5 has been good to me. However, since june or so, this has become brittle. For the first flight, its as sweet as it ever was. But if I re-fly (ctrl-R due to hot flaming death or otherwise), start another a mission or have another go after tweaking the mission a bit, it often becomes chugville after the second or third start. Quitting out of the sim and re-starting it makes it run sweet again, for one or two flights. This suggests to me the problem is not that my PC lacks the power to run the settings I have the sim on. If that were the case, the first flight would be as bad as the third. I have looked at the sims memory usage, and it never fills out my 32gb. It should clear the video cards RAM, shouldn't it? Might it be that this bit is broken a little? Might there be some threads or processes that remain from the first flight and keep running and clogging up the pipes? Might there be a workaround to get things smooth again without having to reload the entire sim? Help me Obi Wan KeForum, you are my only hope! Another forum's poster came up with this: And it did. So here's the admittedly weird solution to my problem: hit F-11 a bunch of times, then back to the pit with F-1.

Holy Spamraam batman! WHat a fun loadout this :D

It's the kind of missile that does great harm to opposing air defences, yea?
-
Get tacview. Its free to try. Fight a 1v1. Look at your flight in tacview and see what you could have done differently. repeat the process until you make no more discernible errors. As for gunnery... well I used to suck very badly at it (despite doing combat flight games for over 30 years now!) until last year when I got a rift. And suddenly I could blast things even in high-deflection snap shots across a scissors. Other than that (and even if) you need to practice. A lot. Combat flying is something that takes about three to ten hours to learn, but about a thousand to become good at and another couple thousand to master.

I play with easy radio and lacking NDB skills. Campaign is gobs of fun so far.
