  1. DCS is fairly easy to set-up, you don't need to make an addon dance (old F4 derivates), nor do you need any kind of configuration file alchemy (FSX.cfg). Yes, setting up individual control profiles is time consuming, setting up multi-monitor + lua export is time consuming, but you don't need those to begin with the sim. Just make sure his computer is able to run DCS, especially that he has a 64bit OS.
  2. Well, looks like a false alarm after all, set it back to full for a quick test and experienced no FPS hit. So, I'm puzzled where that FPS increase came from, as I had aroun 10-15fps when on the ground, and now I have 30stable
  3. What helped me a lot (12fps -> 30+fps) was decreasing the "preload radius" from max to around 90km.
  4. As far as I remember, the inu drift wasn't implement in BS1. I personally never noticed the INU drifting.
  5. Shooting wild here, but doesn't turning Force Feedback (even if you don't have it) on cause this kind of behaviour?
  6. 1)Install BS1 2)Activate BS1 3)Install BS2 (to a different folder OFC), or download and install DCS World and install the BS2 upgrade module. Done both, no problem at all.
  7. Now I'm interested again :) Tbh, I wasn't expecting this to happen, so thanks ED :)
  8. You don't need a dlc pack, the stock game has enough content to keep you entertained for a while. The integration of steamworks offers nearly limitless supply of user-made scenarios (for free ). More then enough to try out if it is your thing or not. Then you can pickup some DLCs with the content you enjoy the most.
  9. Aero L-159 ALCA crashed during a night flying drill near the town of Kolin in Czech Republic. Unfortunately pilot died in the crash. http://www.ceskenoviny.cz/news/zpravy/czech-air-force-aircraft-crashes-pilot-missing/869296 RIP :(
  10. @PE_Tigar: Except they can't. They have no way of forcing you, or their big customers or developers to switch to a new platform. Same way they were unable to force people to switch to windows vista. Desktop is the platform where MS is unrivaled, it would be suicidal for them to ditch the platform they are strongest and hope they can somewhat get similiar profits from tablets/phones, where they have much much weaker position and much fiercer competition. If PC gaming is realy dying (and this time for real), then switching to a platform with virtualy no market share will not save it. Because if noone sees profit in a platform as big as Windows, then noone sane will see profit in a platform as small and divided as linux. And BMS finds another distro that suits them. And developer XY finds another distro....
  11. Big players have hard time recognize Windows as a valuable platform to develop/port games for. I find it hard to believe that some on-line market will convince them that Linux with it miniature market share and 'not so fond on payed SW' community reputation is worth the effort for them. Steam was ported for Mac 2years ago, and I don't see that platform getting any bigger in terms of gaming. Indie devs benefits the most from steam on linux. They finally have a big, well known, platform that they can use for distributing their games on Linux.
  12. You're most likely talking about VERA, the last generation of czechoslovak pasive radar line (started in the 60s). They don't look for any magical holes in the sky. They just use time of arrival of signals at diferent sites to triangulate the target location. And it certainly cannot be packed at the back of a sedan.
  13. Changing my Yes to No, The engine changes are nice, but one SP campaign and a few missions? C'mon, what's the reason to buy it, when I have no content to enjoy the sim in?
  14. FC 2.0 doesn't use Crimea. FC 2 uses the same area that black shark 1 uses. The area was expanded in DCS A-10C to cover more of Georgia, but none were scrapped, so all areas present in FC 2 are present in DCS:World. Black Shark 1 campaign was ported to BS 2. So there is no technical reason why FC 2 campaigns couldn't be ported. Some of the FC 2 campaigs are very done, very immersive, so FC3 is loosing a lot of potential if they are not ported. TBH The lack of SP content is deal-breaker for me, and a huge let down.
  15. I will use this thread to ask my one question: How is FC 3 mission/campaign wise? How many campaings are there? Are the old FC 2.0 campaigns present in game?
  16. No, not realy. http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/60544/why-do-game-developers-prefer-windows/88055#88055
  17. @Wolfie Just one question, have you done your research beyond the quoted article? Obviously not. Then you would known that secure boot is an enabled/disabled chipset feature, so you can disable it if you will. But that wouldn't be convenient for your MS crusade, would it?
  18. This is not true, Vram does affect the virtual space available, but not to that severe degree. Engineers aren't stupid, and recognized that eating 1GB/2GB out of process limited address space would leave little/no memory space left for the actual application. So only a small window (afaik it's 256MB) is mapped into CPU address space (that is mapped via Direct3D to process adress space).
  19. Yes, their new finetuned drivers perform better on the new finetuned engine, then the regular drivers do with the old source engine version. But it's good marketing, and it's working :) They could get the same kind of performance from directX by finetuning their old engine. But there is no point in doing that, because even office hardware can run the source games at good fps.
  20. Well, you can allways take her of the dopamine pills (aka AP stabilization channels), so it will try to commit suicide really really hard.
  21. I'm hearing about linux rising for the last ten years, and it's still where it was 10 years ago. I have 160games on steam alone, no way I'm switching to linux just because of some stupid build-in metro store, which is standard in an OS these days.
  22. IT won't work this way.
  23. It's not only about the effects, it's about the system you use to make those effect. It looks like DCS doesn't have a particle system, that's why smoketrail looks like a dragged toilet paper. I've seen a car burn irl, several times, and I can assure the amount of smoke and the intensity of fire is way beyond anything done in dcs world. You have to realize what is burning in a vehicle - plastics, rubber both create a thick heavy smoke. As to the explosions, yes cars don't explode like that, but 500pounds explosion on youtube looks pretty spectacular.
  24. 1) Last minute converted campaign can only result in inadequate testing. I don't want to edit every second mission because of a hastly conversion or missing assets (i.e. armed house missing causing errors for Deployment campaign in BS 2.0) 2, 3) ED knows how many of its customers never touch the MP. My guess, based on the arguments of ED tester team in MP issues threads, is that the SP only folk are considerable portion of their playerbase. So offering a good SP content should be their priority if they want to sell this product to those folks. I don't care about new effects, F-15C pit and AFM for missiles, if I have no content to enjoy these upgrades in. :) Edit: BS 2 has BS 1 campaign in it. BS 1 uses the same engine as FC2, so I think it isn't that complicated.
  25. So FC3 ships with only one campaign and all campaigns from FC 2 are scrapped. If so, then it's a deal breaker for me. FC 2 has some great campaigns, and I have to wonder why weren't they converted.
