Hmmm, I don't think so. Since it's a community mod some stuff isn't possible to implement in it from what I've heard and hence it can't really be as feature complete as a full fidelity module? Plus how many campaigns will we see for this aircraft? I mean I just want a realistic Falklands conflict and a flyable full fidelity aircraft from the operation on either side.

Am I right in saying the AV-8B is the only module in DCS to have such amazing/ realistic/ interactive training missions? I'm a bit bewildered why every module is not like this. Genuinely brilliant content and gets you up to speed on stuff in a super engaging and fun and quite realistic fashion. Coming from the F-18 which I thought was really tedious to learn, having to find lots of youtube tutorials for various things, the AV-8B is such a great experience to learn. The voice overs and explanations and all the various sub-missions for exercises are just awesome. Why isn't this a standard for every module? Has ED considered doing this for their own modules? I'm aware ED has their own training missions. But not like this. At least not that I've seen in the F-5 or F-18. And definitely not covering as many aspects of operation.

So I'm kind of confused... we are going to have the Falklands map and not a single full fidelity module from the time to actually use on it??

Thank god for this.

Anybody know if Razbam is doing a Sea Harrier for the Falklands map?

Yeah, I tried all manner of possibilities with PD set to 1.0, 0.9 and 0.8 with steam VR showing close to native res (slightly higher like in most guides/ around 54%). I always get the stuttering/ poor fps overflying populated areas. There's a significant decrease in resolution going from PD 1.0 to 0.8 but it's the only way I can get it to run smoothly flying in the middle of nowhere at least. With PD 0.8 and around 54% in steamVR it's really not a particularly sharp image. And even still I have issues overflying towns. I can have PD 0.8 and steam vr at 100% (to upscale) and that also runs fine in the middle of nowhere but not over towns, even with a low draw distance and no shadows! Yeah I've followed Bignewy's settings... no success. Why would there be a problem with VSync? VSync is always off for VR isn't it? I mean every guide has that option switched off in the DCS settings.

Hi folks, So although I think the Reverb G2 is brilliant in terms of what it offers and especially the clarity and crispness of the display, in reality it seems making it run silky smooth is next to impossible for me even on extremely low graphics and resolution settings. So before I completely throw in the towel, I would really appreciate any input from you savvy VR people! Here are my specs: Ryzen 3950X (OC to 4.3GHZ single core) RTX 2080 Super RAM 64GB 3200MHz EVO 970 SSD I used the following sources for set up: vr4dcs guide: https://vr4dcs.com/2019/09/10/reverb-settings-for-dcs/ and, and.. DCS: VR Optimization (2.5.6.50): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyrAIhXFpv0 What I've found is that the only way I can get it to run smoothly is over the desert or pointing into the sky on low graphics settings and by using PD 0.8 in DCS and 100% in Steam VR - this is already an unpleasant downgrade in resolution from the native res the G2 offers. I would probably be ok with this if I could get it to run smoothly in all manner of situations. But as I've found out, no combination of settings seems to get rid of serious fps issues overflying buildings and objects at low level such as flying over Vegas. I tried everything to having terrain shadows off, draw distance on medium (which is really too low for my liking but if it worked well in VR, screw it, it's playable) and basically everything else turned off or next to nothing. Tried both Terrain and World Textures on Low with no terrain shadows (looks pretty terrible) and no result. Anyway, I can not figure out how to make it run smoothly without stutters at low level overflying towns and cities. I am at a point of where I either sell it on or keep it in the hope that when the new 3080 high VRAM card comes out it will miraculously solve my issues... but given as how I seriously underestimated just how poor my decent rig would run VR, I am now debating whether a 3080 Super/Ti or whatever it will be called is going to solve anything. Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I have the standalone version fo DCS (not the Steam one) but to run DCS with the G2 it's really complicated - you need WMR, SteamVR and Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR (and apparently you need the beta version of this, not sure why). And then you can get DCS to boot in VR... it's ridiculous really. Yeah I've ordered a mod someone does on ebay - some 3d printed part to get you closer to the lenses. Lets see if that works. Going through the optimization stuff now to get it to run well... a bit of trial by fire here. Hoping I can get it to run well.

Yep, thanks, this is one of the guides I'm using. Really hope I manage to optimize it to work well. So far I can see huge potential but am so far from having an acceptable image/ smoothness that I'm almost a little apprehensive that I'll be able to have a great VR experience. But so far I don't regret the G2 one bit. The colours and clarity is just awesome. Just hope I can get it to run well grrrr

Red Flag Training Missions - F/A-18C
CommandT replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in User Created Missions General
Yeah I flew a few missions. Seems to be working pretty well for me! Any plans for more realistic NTTR missions? -
Hi folks, I've just taken delivery of a Reverb G2, managed to get it working with DCS but for some reason in steam VR it doesn't show DCS from the drop down list when you go to "Video" and "per-application settings". What am I missing? Also, I'm a little overwhelmed by a million different optimization and set up guides for the G2. Could someone suggest a decent guide to follow for DCS? So far I've tried to copy Bignewy's settings and although being in VR is amazing, it's really not working very smoothly nor anywhere near at the resolution I'd find acceptable. I'm not sure if I was just being too optimistic with VR or perhaps a lot of tweaking is involved as I've only just got it working. I'm guessing it should run ok on my system? Ryzen 3950X (overclocked 4.3GHz on a single core) RTX 2080 Super 64GB 3200MHz RAM EVO 970 SSD Cheers!

Hey folks, I've had my Thrustmaster Warthog since April and recently it developed a major bit of play in one particular direction between the X and Y axis. I took it apart and saw the O ring had come off slightly on one side. Since it's still fairly new I didn't re-grease or glue the ring back in. Instead I just pushed it back in with my finger and it seemed to stick again (lots of grease). Tightened it all back together and that particular bit of play was gone - great. But now I sense there is just a very slight amount of play in the Y axis on centre. It's not terrible - flyable, but it's kind of annoying because it wasn't like this when it was new and now I can't forget about it. Is there a fix for this? Shall I try to take it apart again and re-glue the O ring? Not sure if that would fix it really since I suspect the O ring probably hasn't come apart again, yet. Cheers!

RED FLAG - An F/A-18 NTTR Mission by Sedlo
CommandT replied to Sedlo's topic in User Created Missions General
Hi Sedlo, I've just flown both of your F-18 Red Flag missions again and they are both amazing. Easily the best and most realistic experience I've had in DCS. I just had to add some ground statics to make it slightly less barren at Nellis but apart from that it's just amazing work. Is there any more plans to do anything realistic with NTTR? I love the whole Red Flag/ Agressors thing. Having now tried the F-15 DLC campaign for Red Flag, the F-18 Red Flag missions by beppe_goodoldrebe and yours, I would say yours stands out as the best and most immersive by a country mile. The voice comms everywhere are so good and believable! Love the odd chatter on the radio taken from the real Red Flag comms. And not having to press space bar every time to talk is super nice too. Anyway, hats off. It's shame you only have 2 of these missions (not counting the new MiG-29 BFM test out of Groom Lake) -
Hi guys, I've had my Warthog since April and it has just all of a sudden developed an annoying bit of "play" just off-center somewhere between the X and Y axis. It's very obvious that something is wrong. So as soon as I felt this I took it apart but decided not to go any further after taking the big spring off. Basically I haven't taken the gimbals apart in case I mess it up. Without any tension on the gimbals without the spring I couldn't feel if anything was wrong. So I'm not sure where the problem lies. i know for a fact it 's there though, in the base, in the gimbal somewhere. Has anyone had this sort of issue or have any idea for what might cause it to have some play? I've searched around to see if anyone has had this and there's various things I've found but mostly with re-greasing.

Red Flag Training Missions - F/A-18C
CommandT replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in User Created Missions General
Does this campaign work well now in late 2020? Just want to check before I commit and realise the latest DCS patches screwed something up. Cheers! -
I'll give you one thing, I was wrong about the early MiG-29 versions not having FBW. That is true. All the variants from "M" onward are FBW. I did not realise the early versions (9-12/13) are not. However, with regards to the rest of the assumptions you've made, you are extreme arrogant. Firstly, the MiG-29 was never a "widowmaker", nor has it ever been known for being hard to control. In fact exactly the opposite is true. The pilots that flew it remarked how easy it was to fly and how approachable it was. Secondly, before I say the following regarding my personal opinion about the (lack of) realistic flight dynamics of the MiG-29 in DCS, I will definitely state that this is my personal opinion and I don't claim to be an expert, however as a real life pilot flying airliners, GA, aerobatics, gliders and having acquired a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, I am not a stranger to aircraft handling, control systems and aerodynamics - on the whole. And I know people who have flown various fighters including the MiG-29 and Su-27 in real life. So, using this new found knowledge of the DCS 29's not being FBW, my argument for it's broken FM is even stronger, just from a basic understanding of aerodynamics. The non-linearity of the response that I remarked before is even less likely without a FBW system (that is "broken"). There are instances where at full back stick and high G, the aircraft goes through an entire cycle of suddenly and abruptly allowing you to pull more Gs and increase the turn rate then gradually easing out of this, then abruptly doing the same again, and so the vicious cycle continues. This is all whilst keeping the stick in the same position. This is just one example, a pretty obvious one that something is definitely wrong. I maintain what I said before - if it flew like this in real life, would this be acceptable to any pilot? I don't think so. Obviously we can poke holes in almost any DCS module. They all have quirks and "FM bugs", but some feel much more realistic for the majority of the time, irrespective of how accurate or inaccurate their performance is to the real thing. They feel 'realistic' in handling, the MiG-29 is really not. As with regards to the lack of real seat of the pants feeling - partly true, but also doesn't explain erratic behaviour on regimes well before critical AoA. Doesn't matter that you can't feel it, you can see the crazy sh*t the plane does. And just like you have done I would draw comparisons with real life videos of airshows and various maneuvers which to me show a very different aeroplane to the one we have in DCS. Some things are of course not bad - how it rolls for instance does seem pretty good in game, but once you start putting Gs on it, for me it quickly looses any sense of simulating reality. Once again, my personal opinion. I will not say any more on the subject. But, to finish off - this aeroplane's FM has been getting more flak than any other in DCS... maybe, just maybe, there's a reason behind it... and not because we are all just armchair enthusiasts who think we know better...
