I 100% agree. I'm swaying towards the Viggen as I absolutely love low level interdiction flying and I like that it's different and can land on a road. I still would prefer flying it over the caucuses as it seems a little closer to it's natural habitat. The Mirage feels great to throw around and I might enjoy dogfighting on it. I use the Hornet for that now which I like but the "wobble" bug that's been in it's flight model since day one is SO annoying when you dogfight people that looking at the Mirage it seems like it has more bug-free FM for that. Having said that I also do think it will just do everything the Hornet does already. I'll keep thinking but I might go for the Viggen. Thanks for the input!

So I have an interesting issue - if I select the TPOD and double tap the SSS down I can move the pod pointer around with the TDC - great. If I then press SSS FWD to slave to the HUD (INS) and select TDC depress to mark whatever the velocity vector is looking at the time and create a mark, I can then slew this using the TDC... EXCEPT... TDC controls are reversed!!! Up is down, left is right and right is left... so slewing the newly created mark I have to use opposite TDC inputs to achieve the desired (reverse) slew direction... is this some kind of f up? Or am I just a noob and don't get the idea? All I want is to mark a point on the ground via my velocity vector and have the TPOD look there and then move it... how hard can that be... why are my TDC controls reversed?!

Any realistic missions/ campaigns for the Viggen?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
I see. And how is supercarrier implementation, do you know? Does the deck populate with any aircraft/ equipment and do flights takeoff and land ok? That's good to know, thank you! -
Has there been any manual that's updated with the new controls for the TPOD? After doing the training mission in DCS and reading Chuck's Guide on the AV-8B, I quickly realised whatever it says to do, has changed... I am really struggling figuring out how to operate this thing without giving up every time I try. Ah I just realised Chuck's Guide has been updated post 04/11/20 update. I need to have a look at this as I have the older manual.

Yeah that's kinda the problem for me - I love anything related to Red Flag and NTTR and the Mirage would be better for that, especially as there's no such campaign for the Hornet that I fly. But I prefer having a low level interdiction fighter since I already have the Hornet for all the other multi-role stuff. I'm aware there's a Red Flag campaign for the Viggen also but this seems very far fetched and not really it's natural habitat. Is having the cockpit switches in Swedish an issue at all for normal ops? I see the Mirage has an English pit for it's export variants presumably and would give access to flying around NTTR and Syria whereas the Viggen feels very out of place anywhere other than the Caucuses. Yeah I have both atm. Just not sure what I want to concentrate on long term.

I'm going back and forth between the two and can't figure out what is more interesting - mostly interested in available content and what's more fun to learn? I've test flown both and I like both. Obviously the Mirage is a little more multi-role and will be good for dogfighting but I'm not too bothered about this aspect. Just trying to figure out what's more fun to learn and operate. Especially given the available content. Any opinions from those that fly both? Do they both have adequate systems modeling and implementation? I'm leaning towards the Mirage atm as it seems like there's more realistic content for it? For reference I already fly the F-18 and l love the AV-8B. The only other aircraft that I'm interested in currently is either the Mirage or the Viggen.

Which graphics options do virtually nothing?
CommandT replied to e32lover's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Might depend on a specific system/ bottleneck so I don't think you can get a standard answer but generally shadows on low vs high, SSAA off. For Syria map terrain textures on low (you won't notice really). -
Caucuses map fps drops after latest patch?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Hmmm, I'm not sure. Firstly it's just the caucuses that I noticed on, secondly I don't use VR. Seemed pretty clear the performance issues happened straight after the patch update. I didn't update any Nvidia graphics at the same time. -
Just found an explanation why they "drop" the plane onto the ground during a vertical landing. Watch from 05:00

NTTR Real Life Low Level Routes??
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
Thanks, yeah I see where that is. Looks like really quite far from where the major part of the details is on the NTTR map in DCS. That's a shame. -
This looks stunning. I literally cannot wait. Just preying to god there's no big fps hit.

Can't open those unfortunately sorry forgot to rtespond before. thanks! Had a little look but couldn't find anything there. -
Any realistic missions/ campaigns for the Viggen?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
Sounds very interesting. I will definitely have to give this another go then! Thanks a lot for bringing this to my attention! Do the missions get planned well by the system in terms of how your intended flight path coincides with all the other units and stuff like that? Yeah that smoke on the front line is definitely not something I want. I saw someone on youtube show how the front line is marked by smoke and that was so unrealistic I didn't want to know any more! -
AV-8B training missions are outstanding. Why not in every module?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in DCS Core Wish List
100% agree with the above. Makes the learning experience super enjoyable and not tedious like some modules. I think the same could be said about the lack of really good combat missions that modules come with. DCS really does feel like a sand box a lot of the time - here's an amazing plane, an amazing map and a mission editor... now go and make your own mission and learn it all yourself. You'd have thought that having excellent flying content is the whole point of having the amazing plane in the first place! I really hope more attention starts getting paid to this. -
This is true but I was comparing to doing the same in DCS landing on the Tarawa and my opinion remains unchanged about the pitch being maybe a little bit more sluggish and less stable than what it seems like in the video. It seems pretty common for them to hit the deck hard or even bounce on landing after watching a lots of youtube vids. Seems like they really want a very positive touch down. Almost a hard touch down it seems!

Any realistic missions/ campaigns for the Viggen?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
Wow, that is an interesting new development. Any major drawbacks to the campaign? How does the front line look in practice when you actually fly over it? Is there anything there? -
Hi folks, Is it just me or are there some serious fps drops now on the Caucuses map for other people too in random places? I could have sworn it was smoother running flying closer to terrain for me before. Also noticed huge fps drops after landing on a road in the AV-8B and figured out it's entirely due to grass draw distance - never used to have this problem before. Never remember the grass affecting my performance at all. Having said that, whatever it is they've done with the trees and foliage in the latest patch, definitely does look better! Can't put my finger on what's changed but definitely looks very good and better than before.

I mean I can get it to fly pretty well and land bang on where I want. I'm just saying the pitch control in hover looks to be too sluggish compared to the HUD footage above.

Any realistic missions/ campaigns for the Viggen?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
I've had a look at this Liberation thing but I really don't think it's for me. As far as I understand the airfields and stuff are not populated with any aircraft? Bit of an immersion breaker operating to and from the base. -
Red Flag Training Missions - F/A-18C
CommandT replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in User Created Missions General
That would be great. I agree. The AI is the Achilles heal of DCS. It boggles the mind they haven't put a lot of effort in making them operate in a predictable and realistic fashion. I don't mean for dogfighting - just normal flying/ taxiing/ takeoff/ landing/ holding. They are just awful. I really hope ED realises how much of an immersion breaker stupid AI can be. Especially when they defy the laws of physics -
Hey folks, Since we are getting a free test drive of all aircraft atm, I've got my eye set on the Viggen but I'm not sure if there's any decent content for it? I had a look on the DCS user files and I see only 4 campaigns for the Viggen... 2 of them in Chinese and 1 on the Persian Gulf map which seems so far from the Viggen's natural habitat that I didn't even bother checking it. Has anyone done anything good for it on the Caucuses map?

AV-8B training missions are outstanding. Why not in every module?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Huh, didn't realise that these sort of training missions exist for the Mirage and the MiG-19 too. That's good to know. Definitely ads to the experience and a good selling point. What surprises me a bit is that surely nobody knows the mission editor better than ED themselves, so surely they should have someone talented like BD working for them making good content for their own modules? Both training and proper missions. My absolute biggest gripe with DCS not counting the old legacy engine/ poor AI/ lack of a weather engine (soon to be crossed off my list) is the total lack of well though through missions and campaigns for their modules. Whilst it's great that talented folk outside of ED are taking the time to create content I still think you should be paying for a bit more than just a plane with a manual. I know they do offer some training/ missions out of the box but it's really nothing to shout about. Certainly not BD level. -
According to the training missions and guides it's 4deg nose down or taxi and 2deg nose down for takeoff. I set 1.9 like you also but it's still way too much nose down I feel.
-
Hi folks, I'm new to the AV-8B so maybe it's just me but does anyone else find that 2 units nose down trim for takeoff - any takeoff - vertical, short, whatever, seem like it's too much nose down trim? it always seems to really want to pitch down after liftoff and I just ending up trimming up back to 00. Is it supposed to be this way? Another thing I just noticed after watching the following HUD footage of a Harrier landing onto a Carrier is that it seems much more responsive in pitch when in the hover? The DCS Harrier seems to have a really slow reaction to any pitch input and really feels statically unstable more than the one in the video? I get that in real life it's also unstable but I mean in comparison to the video below it looks more unstable than the real thing perhaps? Any real Harrier pilots around here that have tried our DCS one?

It's only if you start your engine. Same problem here. If you forget to remove them before you start the engine then it's bad news... restart the mission all over. grrrr
