Actually guys, I asked for PG IA Hornet 'Ready on the Ramp' or the Cold Start Training Mission. The TM is in Caucasus.

I'm going to try a whole bunch of stuff now as I am confused by the HUGE difference in performance figures being shown here.

Could you maybe make a print screen of the mission selection in the DCS menu, so I dont run the wrong game again?

I dont feel that sure about which selection to make from the description above. I have almost only done multiplayer with my gaming friends and really not used any other features. Feeling a bit stupid about this, but better ask before than putting up print screens with values that confuses you guys again...

I can do that later, but it's 'Instant Action', F/A-18, Persian Gulf. 'Ready on the Ramp'. Or 'Training', F/A 18, 'Cold Start'.

I hope that helps.

No one seems to have commented on the Task Manager graphics I posted earlier https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4193574&postcount=4932. Don't we think that it is really interesting the difference between the TrackIR/monitor graphs and the VR one?

I mean, the monitor one shows what I've always seen and believed to be correct, i.e. DCS uses one core for the main stuff and one for audio. So on that graphic, we can see one core at 100% and another being used, but all others are effectively unused.

On the VR graphs, the load is very spread across all cores. Why would that be?

Thanks guys I'll take these settings step by step then

I'm a bit more concerned about my 2nd question though:

Thinking about it last night, I'm afraid this can only be caused by me having a slightly to large ipd

Sure hope it's not... Any ideas what else may cause this (anyone else experienced this?)

Have you tried having a look at this thread?:

I haven't tried the advice there yet myself, but apparently it has helped a lot of people with the crossed eyes problem. Might be worth a shot. :)

Which is interesting is it not? On monitor, DCS is locked to core 11 plus audio, whereas VR appears to be spreading it across all cores.

I thought that was what Vulkan was supposed to do!

Are you running Vsync when using TrackIR?

If not I guess that core works as hard as it can to produce frames, hitting close to 100% if nothing else stops it. If you enable vsync and stay at 60fps( i guess) it lowers the cpu load.

There should be other cores working during VR, steamVR, WMR etc that uses som äe cpu power.

In my case an VR theres really only two cores doing anything, core 13 at 30% or something and 15 doing 60-90%. I do not se that spread, or at least my other cores are quite low with cpu total at 8-10%

Yes, I use NCP VSYNC on monitors, so that doesn't explain it, I'm afraid.

Yep, tried it in the past. Makes no difference and inhibits apps that use it.

I was meaning more from a technical pov that the load was being spread over cores in VR. And, none of them are at the limit either, unlike on the monitor.

Lot of back and forth. But I think I saw 4GB page file. Did you change that to auto/system managed? I'll post my settings tomorrow. We have almost the same settings except for the 3200MHz DDR vs 3000. And I'm at 5.1GHz on the CPU (should be negligible). BTW, did you actually VERIFY that it's running at 5.0 GHz with CPUID CPU-Z or similar?

Thanks for that.

Pagefile has always been system managed, and, yes, CPU-Z confirms the 5GHz.

Hi all, I apologize in advance for the question - but I'm not willing to read all 498 pages of just this thread to find the answer.

So now that the Reverb is out and is being used, what's the consensus for DCS use on a high end Desktop (see my specs below)? Good, bad or indifferent? I'm currently running an HTC Vive Pro, and while its "good" its not great for resolution. And I think I would rather have clarity and sharper and smoother images rather than the bigger FOV but poorer PPD of the Pimax. So the Reverb seems to be the best solution on paper. But for you guys that have been flying with it, what is the Reader's Digest answer on whether its a thumbs up or thumbs down purchase?

Related question - Which is better? Reverb consumer version or Pro version? My understanding is the only differences is the face pad (leather vs foam). Are there any other differences that make the Pro a better HMD?

Huge TIA!

No difference that matters between the consumer and pro versions. I have the pro version, and I'm not even using its leather facepad anymore, because it was too thin and my eyes were so close to the lenses that I was seeing blue halos from the lens edges. The claim used to be a better warranty (3 years vs. 1 year), but they both have the same warranty (1 year).

Your hardware will do just fine with the Reverb. You won't need as much SS in SteamVR to get a nice, clear, smooth experience, so you'll probably actually see a slight boost in performance.

In some regions the Pro gets a better (2 year) warranty. It also has a cable for the HP PC backpack thingy you will likely never use.

Just out of curiosity, what does it say on the ID plate inside the headset? The reason I ask is that my US Reverb once showed a 3 year warranty on my specific serial number, and then one day it changed to a 1 year warranty. I was about to call HP and make a fuss over that, but when I looked at the ID plate on the headset, it said "1 year limited warranty". They must have had an error on the US web-site and corrected the error.

Thanks, that's really good to hear. I'm going to likely pick one up soon.

Again please pardon my ignorance, I've just started looking at these. My understanding of the other main difference between Pro and consumer is the cable length - i.e. consumer long / Pro short? The short is probably fine for DCS since you're not moving around, but I'll likely also eventually do some FPS games in a room size area. Would the shorter cable be too short for that application? If that is true, and there's no difference in the image quality or performance between the two - I'll likely go for the consumer version.

Cable length is the same between the two versions, 4 meters. The Pro just comes with an extra, shorter cable that is 0.6 meters in length. Room scale with any HMD that uses DisplayPort as an interface is going to be difficult. 4 meters is actually about the maximum for cable length with Display Port, unless you use a signal booster, and there's no guarantee that a booster would help. That's the only thing I don't like about the Reverb. The cable length limitations of Display Port. I don't do any room-scale VR gaming, but I liked being able to extend the cable on my old Rift for watching 3D movies in VR so I could sit on my couch and enjoy it.
