=SCoRPioN= Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I have done some research and have figured out how to STOP ALL MY DCS CRASHES! All of you having problems are in luck! Those DCS stopped responding or has caused an error and needs to close! Sometimes it crashes constantly when refreshing multiplayer servers. Needs a reboot, and even then still doesnt work consistently. Other times when just joined a server and choosing an aircraft, and crash! Or fly for an hour and crash! :( So, here are the 2 main fixes! Enjoy! No More Crashes! This will also speed it up! And other games too! :) First fix for 32-bit only, let the program use more RAM: For Win Vista/7 simply Copy/Paste or Type Exactly into CMD: bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072 And Reboot. For Windows XP 32-bit, use these instructions: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/faq/Win32 Second fix, has to do with DEP, just dont worry what it does, it's magic! :) Copy/Paste or Type Exactly into CMD: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff Reboot. This turns off DEP for all programs and lets DCS freely use your system, so to say, it's awesome and it works! To REVERT IT and STOP the fix, type this and reboot bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn Not a single crash since I did this myself on Win7 32. I just cant use my MS SideWinder Precision Pro with USB and only Gameport and only in 32bit and these commands have saved me! NO MORE CRASHES! Let me know if this worked for you or not. My guess is that it will! :) 1 My first computer and my ED collection: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I won FC1 in the original Lock On Tournament in 2005: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=8805

=SCoRPioN= Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Hehe, I titled it originally as Fix for 90% of Crashes, but I havent had a single crash, so for me, it's for all crashes, thus far. :) My first computer and my ED collection: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I won FC1 in the original Lock On Tournament in 2005: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=8805
ED Team c0ff Posted May 28, 2013 ED Team Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) ;1772503']It does not work for DCS.exe DEP off, try it. Did not work for me, it said error, has to be enabled for DCS.exe Have to disable for all. Seems like for some executables this advice helps: Right click on the File and go to the Compatibility Tab and change the compatibility mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 3) for 'All Users'. But that's may be too much of a hackery. =SCoRPioN= Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Win XP/Vista/7 64=bit use only Fix #2 Copy/Paste or Type Exactly into CMD: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff Reboot. DEP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Prevention This seriously works, also for games like GTA. Also do this: 1. DELETE ALL FILES IN THESE LOCATIONS CTRL A SHIFT DEL KEY: Location 1: C:\Users\[userName]\Saved Games\DCS\Logs\ Location 2: WinKey+R Run: %temp% 2. RUN REPAIR DCS WORLD from the START ALL PROGRAMS MENU. If the program is complete and these fixes are done, try to make it crash! Please report here if helped or not. Darkwolf187 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Be aware, blindly turning off DEP can expose your machine to being compromised via any number of drive-by exploits. DEP serves a useful purpose, it's not just put there to annoy you. Secondly, increasing UserVA may have unintended consequences, particularly if you have a lot of RAM but are forced to use a 32-bit O/S. Go and read about system page table entries (PTE's). Running out of system PTE's will cause blue screens. This problem gets a LOT worse when you adjust the userva setting.

SkateZilla Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 wasnt trying to call out the OP, just sayin', that fix/adjustment has been around for a while. and to add, I disable UAC and DEP, as they both block alot of programs I use from the XP Era from installing or running. As long as you be smart about where you go on the internet and what you install you should be fine, I survived 12+ (ongoing still) years on XP with no UAC or DEP of any kind, so I dont need it on Windows 7. Well, seems like disabling DEP only for DCS is a no go, since MS have decided to pseudo implement exceptions. Using my awesome Google skills I've found out that if you want to be 100% sure DEP is off you need to disable it all together. We're gonna try this tonight, on a custom made mission we had LOTS of crashes in a few days ago. Darkwolf187 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Oh, don't get me wrong, not saying that disabling DEP and messing with userva won't help. Just saying that there may be unintended (and pretty big) consequences, so be aware of it. Matter of fact, setting userva will probably help with DCS since it's pretty RAM hungry. But be careful if you have a lot of RAM, and if you start seeing weird blue screens you're probably running out of system PTE's.
