rrohde Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Noticed these fps killers while flying around Mineralye Vody. Have they been added recently? I wasn't aware of those until a few days ago, but they do seem to have quite an impact on my fps. See screenshot of plumes attached. Any way to disables those "monsters"? :) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com

sniperwolfpk5 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 It looks ugly. I don't know how it looks when flying around but in pictures they look very linear Win10, Intel 3rd Gen. Art-J Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 I wonder if it's mod/weather/GFX-driver related thing? On my machine the new smoke is more voluminous, but it's nowhere near as bad as on rrohde's screenshots. Nvidia card here with latest drivers, the only mods are Toby's ground textures and Mustang's shaders. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Aginor Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 They changed those effects one or two patches ago IIRC, and in my game (effects unmodded, NVidia 770 with... certainly not the most recent drivers) they look pretty good IMO. Not sure what happened on rrhode's rig but it certainly looks ugly. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

GeorgeLKMT Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Not all chimneys have the new effect, look around Mineralnye. Mine looks just like in those Art-J's screens. I like it but it needs to slow down a bit! EDIT: Actually, I take it back. It looks fine at first but if I move camera far away and then come back, effect will turn into this fps eating madness. rrohde Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 I am currently on a Clevo gaming laptop with an NVIDIA card, and that's what I got without any mods or off-the-cuff system settings. Latest drivers and all. @GeorgeLKMT yep, that's my observation as well, even though I never get the nice and fluffy looking ones I see posted here, only that fps killer you see as well. Could that be a bug? Aginor Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 It is either a bug or something is just incompatible (which we could also call a bug I guess). Either way it is an issue other people have as well, so I guess the ED guys will take a look at it I presume. :) DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
rcjonessnp175 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Lol my guess is they released some edge smoke to show you how horrible it runs in current engine. Then once edge dcs 2.0 comes out you'll see how awesome it runs in new engine lol I7 4770k @ 4.6, sli 980 evga oc edition, ssdx2, Sony 55 inch edid hack nvidia 3dvision. My driver version is 344.48. Could it be a "Settings" thing? where setting all to high set things unseen and unclickable to a greater view configuration? Are all of U set to high? FSKRipper Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I refered only to the graphics effect. I have no fps problem with the effects in my picture. Btw as said by some others these plumes seem to be only around MV. Will take a flight there next evening and report back. i9 9900K @ 5,0GHz | 1080GTX | 32GB RAM | 256GB, 512GB & 1TB Samsung SSDs | TIR5 w/ Track Clip | Virpil T-50 Stick with extension + Warthog Throttle | MFG Crosswind pedals | Gametrix 908 Jetseat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Are all of U set to high? Remember how we would have to set all to high and then adjust down if needed? Ok, as promised I made another flight over MV. There are very few smoke plumes with these effects on my side. As you can see in the picture only two over this part of the town. My settings are high for both, scenes and vis range. Maybe some kind of a former effects test. Since some People get serious fps issues with that it would be worth looking into it.... i9 9900K @ 5,0GHz | 1080GTX | 32GB RAM | 256GB, 512GB & 1TB Samsung SSDs | TIR5 w/ Track Clip | Virpil T-50 Stick with extension + Warthog Throttle | MFG Crosswind pedals | Gametrix 908 Jetseat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rrohde Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) I also flew around Mindovy again last night and I saw those ugly huge plumes of smoke again. The kicker is that since I posted the original screenshots, I have build a new PC (see specs in my signature). So after moving away from my previous gaming laptop, to a whole new machine, with new CPU, new GPU, and new motherboard, these plumes are still there. :) However, after setting my "Scenes" to "High", these plumes initially looked great and fluffy, like I've seen displayed here as well (and shown in my first screenshot attached below), but -- the longer I looked at them, the more they turned back into these fps eating monstrosities. Strange, isn't it? MonnieRock Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) Hello Everyone, I concur with others that have come to the conclusion that the defect, repeatable, is related to distance. I made a demo to illustrate what is happening. As you zoom out to a certain distance ( roughly 8000 feet) the LOD that replaces the close shader takes over and corrupts the close LOD. Once this happens, it goes from a nice puffy plume into some unregulated factory plume. What are they burning in there? :music_whistling: Notice, the second smoke plume that never reaches that distance has not been affected. The defect has nothing to do with time, settings, graphics drivers, nor mods, as you can fly around the smoke plume for hours. The defect is related to distance. :smartass: I have not found a way to get back to the first shader once the transformation has occurred. Hopefully this will help the ED team to solve the defect. :helpsmilie: Thank you, Monnie Edited December 25, 2014 by MonnieRock Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb
Winston60 Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 You think this new smoke effect reduces your framerate when you simply look at it... try flying through it. My frames/sec go from 60 to single digits! I believe it's also the cause of the Sabre's problem of an obscured gunsight when the guns are fired. Funny ED doesn't respond to this issue. Do they even know about it?
