AH-1G Release date?

Fact: Belsimtek are doing the AH-1G many of us like it, many do not either way I am sure it will do well

 

expressing any opinion one way or another will not change that, just be happy knowing aircraft are being published for DCSWorld faster than at any other time.

Since we have the Uh-1h it only makes sense to compliment it with the Ah-1g. if BST would have done the Uh-1n then I can see they might make the Whiskey or Zulu model. With that said, I'm with you, I'd much preferred the Ah-1w but I will buy any helo BST or Eagle makes. I wish Eagle would release the Ah-64a they initially started awhile back, but maybe someday we will get some modern bird. On the bright side Combat-helo still looks like a possibility but for now I'm enjoying the Huey very much and I'm sure I'll enjoy the Ah-1g even more when it comes out.

The actual question is, how much would they just have to guestimate about the latest versions? And no, a few manuals isn't enough to make an even half decent module. But then again, common sense is not common here. For example, your answer to the question "when will the AH-1G be released" was a rant about it.

It wasn't truth, it was your personal opinion. Not to mention everything you said was nothing new, and has already been said by someone else. The reaction you received was due to the fact that this horse has been dead and beaten, and you came in with a bat after everyone else got tired of it. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you didn't realize there have already been at least two threads where people argued this ad nauseam until everyone got sick of it - the most recent of the two got a bit ugly. If you didn't know about this, then now you can see why you got the reaction that you did.

 

The simple fact is they are making a "G", have been making a "G" since before they announced it, and it isn't going to morph into a modern Cobra. No complaints about it will change that. It is what it is as they say, either people buy it or they don't. At best it might be made into a "Q" model, but I'm not putting money on that one.

The Huey impressed me so much i will definately buy every helo module from belsimtek. I'm not too familiar with the Cobra , but i'm sure it'll be fun.

 

However , isnt it a 2 man aircraft? How will that work? I realise the huey was also a 2 (well i guess 4, but 2 pilots) manned helo , but i feel like this is completely different. Isnt there 1 Pilot and 1 gunner? If so , will we just need to auto hover while we aim the weapons?

 

Ofcoarse i could be wrong in thinking its a 2-seater in wich case this whole post is irrelevant.

 

Either way , i'll get it as soon as it becomes available.

Well, do you have to auto hover to use the weapons on the Huey?

 

I'd imagine they'll use the same AI system that they have now for it, i.e. you can always let the AI pilot take over and fly simple patterns like straight forward, orbit, etc., and tell it when and how to open fire.

The gunner seat in the cobra also has a collective and cyclic, so you can fly and shoot from the front seat if you want.

I doubt it - even the GAU-8 has a hard time with modern tanks.

 

Also keep in mind, "our" AH-1G has no 30 mm cannon. The chin turret features a minigun similar to what we have on the Huey and the pylon mounted cannon is a 20 mm.

 

Afaik the AH-1 was originally not designed as anti-tank platform (and the G variant is quite close to the "original" :o)

It is/was the XM188. Mainly made for the AH-63, which was cancelled. It was experimentally fitted in the nose turret of an AH-1, but of course, not accepted.

Okay, I mistook that chin cannon in the picture (#2) for a pod cannon. 20 mm is still an improvement over the UH-1H though. I'll just wait for more info.

I find the biggest obstacle to my combat effectiveness in the huey is that I don't last long against things that shoot back :music_whistling:

maybe you are using it against the wrong targets or employing incorrect tactics.

 

the nice thing about the cobra is the smaller profile when in a head on attack ;)

Seriously, I too, would buy anything DCS. Already have two helos that I don't fly... much. But the Huey flies every night after work. When I get itchy, I fly the P-51 then the A-10C. Every once in a while, I fly the F-15. I'll be quitting my job when the advanced flight model on the Eagle comes out! I won't have enough time to fly everything so, low priority is the job!
