Hi all, I just need a quick answer in this module.

So I realy wanted to buy this but I'm always in dought if getting it right now or not. So what is in this P51 download version right now, what I can fight "are there any German planes to shoot at AI"?

What about online, are there any good servers dedicated to this module? I mostly don't see mush.

Thanks in advance.

My personal opinion, buy it its one of my favourite if not most favourite modules. The lack of A.I opponents is the only drawback however there is the A.I FW-190 in DCS World which will give you hours of fun competing against, and I pretty sure, and someone will soon correct me on here if I am wrong, that you will be able to use the P-51 in DCS WW2 when its released later this year.

Im not sure how much simming you've done in DCS, and Im not by any means trying to pre-judge your experience or abilities but you do need to spend time learning how to fly the mustang in full realism mode, keeping on top of engine temperatures, tight turning in co-ordination with rudder input, and gunnery with the K-14 gunsight is all tricky. So its not a just buy and be good at it instantly sort of sim but I think its superb....

It's Currently my favorite. Good h2h play and some coop online with the isreal and dogs of war servers ... It has a big learning curv that will pay dividends when the rrg title drops .

As mentioned above, there is an AI opponent in the form of an FW109, however, it cheats and uses the SFM (simplified flight model), which means it can do things you physically can't.

However...ED are releasing DCS:FW109 soonish (at least, I understand it's meant to be first half of this year), which'll mean that plane and AI will be using the AFM in the near future, making it a much better foe to fight against.

Then with DCS:WWII on the prowl, you should get AFM using AI with BF109ks and ME262's as well.

I kill the AI Dora almost all the time (after a learning curve that took five months). It takes a long time and lots and lots of practice and many small tweaks to your controls. And I'm very much still learning.

My advice would be to buy it as soon as it goes on sale (mine cost about $16). And then fly it and fly it and fly it. The campaign is a superb (and frustrating) learning experience. You can see your skills improve and your muscle memory develop.

It's an amazing sim and the most pure flying fun I've experienced in a couple decades of sim flying!

EDIT: A final thought: I use the Quick Missions a great deal. Only for ground attack (The stang gets nicked up considerably; waiting anxiously for the P-47) and those are target rich environments. Also good fun flying low!

Thanks guys for the quick respond.

I'm going to wait for the next sale and go for it. I do have expirience in simming "20+ years" including DCS "A10C - FC3 and Ka-50".

I just din't go with it at the first cause of the off the lack of targets and the off map era.

Anyways Thanks again. <S>

The AI doesn't use AFM and probably won't for many years. The AI Fw-190 might very well be complete. If any changes are made they would be to the AI's SFM.

As for the P-51 it's a favorite. dogfighting the AI is good fun and with some improvisation you can make good missions as well. Being that it's AFM and an early piston plane, it's fun to just fly without even worrying about combat.

Exorcet has a point. I have so much fun just flying the Mustang, I can count on the fingers of one hand how often I've been in a fight. Just fun doing low level cross country stuff, maybe set an AI Mustang and fly formation with it.

Pull the power off at 6,000 ft. and see if you can dead stick it to a runway. Do a touch and go on the Carl Vincent. Millions of things to do...And the scenery is terrific up North. That's why you'll hardly ever see me use the word "game" here. :-)

Do a touch and go on the Carl Vincent.

It's perfectly possible to do a full stop landing on it. It takes a fair bit of practice, but as you've said, you'll have have so much fun simply flying it around trying these things.

The Mustang is a fantastic airplane to fly in DCS. As most said already, no combat needed until WWII comes out to have fun, there is plenty to do with it so you will not get bored. It is challenging enough when you start flying it, let alone taking off with full tanks and full wings. You better apply trimming as indicated in the manual or you won't even get airborne. That's how demanding it can be when you are new to the "The STANG".

I had BIG SMILE in my face when I got it first airborne with full tanks and drop tanks.

I suggest 5.2° trim right rudder and put it all to SIM and full realistic :)

...and don't give up, we all crashed, exploded, hit something when the torque just took control of the airplane LoL...you will soon know what we mean.

The P-51 is the thing if you love flying

The Huey is THE THING to have some 'Nam" style fun and good music

The Ka is THE KILLER, deadly, sneaky, comes and leaves usually unseen by enemy

The A-10C is for tech enthusiasts with a good Hotas, I say unflyable in combat without.

The Mi8...we..lets wait here, sure fun to fly around and kill some light armored stuff, like the Huey but not as much fun yet.

Su-25T best free Airplane I ever came across, worth 20 bucks at least.

FC3.. if you love supersonic booms and A2A dogfights, this is it !

my 2 cents and my look at the modules as of now and their respective FM's

I consider DCS: P-51D a good bargain at its full price. However, if one isn't particularly enthusiastic about WWII fighters, then perhaps waiting for a sale might be best. Still, to anyone with a love for aviation, the sim should be worth at least the relatively low figure they're asking for it.

I heard a lot of early buyers bitch and moan about the lack of a WW2 environment for the P-51, and so I waited for a sale. Afterward I felt pretty foolish for missing out on the P-51 for so long.

The P-51 is a great and challenging Module..I like it..but it feels a little bit missplaced in the DCS World...doing strafe runs against "modern" Tanks is a bit strange

My Specs:

I don`t care..it is a Computer..a black one..
