Thrustmaster Warthog joystick extension mod - various lengths

Installed my 80mm kit the other day after fast shipment (many thanks Adam). After first few hours of flying I can tell you one thing. This is not a luxury item, it is essential stuff for any Warthog owner. You won't believe the difference until you've tried it yourself. Big thumbs up.

There is no spoon.

Just got mine from the post office - it's amazing. Didn't know how much I needed it until I had one. I got the 8cm one which i think give me enough travel for sure - it'll be perfect once I get a centre stick mount.

Thanks!

Excellent

I purchased the 120mm extension on January 16th. Within minutes of the purchase being confirmed, I was sent a personalized email from Adam, and he let me know that it would be in the post the next day. Sure enough, it was. Very quick turnaround, and very personalized service.

Thanks to a fun random hold up on USPS's end of things, Adam and I had a lengthy back and forth about the progress on the shipping. He guaranteed me my money back in full if the package truly went missing, which eased my worries, and we both watched the trackers carefully. As updates finally came to the tracker, I received an email every morning from Adam reassuring me that things seemed to be moving along. Eventually USPS got off of their ass and actually did ship me the extension, which I finally received today, February 2nd.

The personalized customer service is truly above and beyond, and I know that the blame for the hold up falls squarely on USPS. If it weren't for that, I would have had my extension right away. But now I do have it, and I was able to give the Warthog and the Huey a whirl to test it out.

Simply fantastic. It's a beautiful milled single piece of steel that just plugs right in perfectly. Not only is the stick able to be rotated to more comfortably fit your grip as you fly, but the extra length away from the fulcrum at the base means that it has eliminated wrist movement altogether. While I loved the Warthog even without the extension, the biggest limiter on my play was that I felt like I was destroying my wrist trying to pull back on the stick. Now, however, the motion is fluidly across the entire arm and very comfortable. The extra length means that I can perform much finer motions accurately since more physical deflection is required to match the amount of movement without the extension. Additionally, the extra weight and the length moves the center of gravity on the stick upwards away from the fulcrum, meaning that the factory default somewhat stiff centering spring is now much softer, to the point of accurate, deft control using only fingertips. Overall, the whole stick motion feels smoother and more comfortable.

And now after I write all of this I realize that this is all written in the first post... Consider it a confirmation of those claims.

I would very much highly recommend this extension to anyone with a Warthog. It is a revelatory experience and will change the way that you play for the better.

Thank you again, Adam, for your fantastic customer experience. It really felt like you had my back and were right there with me through the whole experience. Thank you for your fantastic product, and thank you for providing this service to the community.

Received my 120mm extension.

Solid Steel construction with a perfect finish.

Tight fit for the joystick handle and somewhat tight for the base.

I worried that a simple screw on extension would rotate and come loose during excessive handling but no it is superbly rock solid from top to bottom!

Not even the slightest wobble side to side or front to back.

perfect joint mating... sweet!

Cheers Wasy100.

Rebuilding my simpit at the moment, and I have a question before I get my Warthog.

What is the forward stick deflection on the Warthog, both default, and with each extension?

I need to know how much space I can get away with. My prime concern is how far forward the stick comes from center position, so it doesn't hit my front panel.

Once I know how far forward it moves I'll know whay size extension I can accomodate. I want as long as possible because I intend to fly helos aswell as the A-10.

Hi Ragtop, I will take some measurements for you when I get home later today.

Ragtop. Following are requested measurements. I took two dimensions from the max forward position of the stick so you should have idea how much space is required in front of the stick.

X - horizontal distance from the front of the base under the stick to the end of boundary created by deflecting stick (geez sound confusing but see pic)

Y - vertical distance between deflecting stick and base

Now measurements [in millimeters]

Stock (no extension) - X = 98, Y = 195

Stick + 80mm extended - X= 124, Y = 265

Stick + 100mm extended - X = 132, Y = 285

Stick + 120mm extended - X = 137, Y = 310

Hope that helps..

EXACTLY what I needed.

Thanks so much. It'll be some weeks before I can pick up a Warthog, but I'll undoubtedly be ordering an extension from you.

Mine just arrived; thought I'd give my comments.

Arrived within 48 hours of purchase, with personal emails each step of the way. Packaged very safely and sent with tracked, signed for delivery.

My first impression was shock at how heavy this thing is! It's SOLID. If the stick and base could stand up to it, 3 people could hang off this.

Fitted to the stick in under 20 seconds, and the extension cable is marked to make positioning easy.

Feel is incredible. I opted for the 100mm and it feels exactly how I'd hoped. Tension is much closer to my modded (Stiffened) X-52 which makes fine maveuvering much easier. The added throw definitely gives better accuracy and positioning. The center detent is reduced to just what I'd like. You know where center is but it doesn't grab you.

The stick still recenters perfectly from any deflection, with no significant slop at all. The amazing thing is there is absolutely zero stiction from the base now. Any movement you make, no matter how small is silky smooth.

Honestly I thought £40 was a little steep initially, and for a piece of machined metal, it is. But after the whole experience, it's totally worth it. It's not a piece of metal, it's an overall improvement for my flight sim experience.

10/10

Thanks Wasyl100!

Thrustmaster Warthog joystick extension mod - various lengths

I usually fly the a10c/f15 and Huey. What length should I get?

Hi meastro72x, Its a matter of personal preference really. Everyone will give you different opinion here. But the general rule when picking the extension is that you would pick a longer stick for helos and more demanding planes like props and stick with the shorter when flying mainly easy planes like A10. But that's my observation.

I have the longest extension and it really reduces the spring tension in the stick so flying the helicopters is much easier, in my opinion. Also really helps with the Dora and P51 during take offs

Anyone else have a problem removing their extension from the base. I hand tightened mine when I first got it. Now I can't remove it. I am afraid if I put too much force on it I will break the gimble in the base.

Hi Lucky, from my experience the ball is really tough to break +1 for Thrustmaster for that but if you don't want to risk it try unscrewing the ring around the base (8 screws) plus another 4 under and then you will get an access to the lower part of the ball which will make thing easier for you.

Hadn't thought to disassemble the base. I've had it apart before for greasing up. Thanks for the tip. I want to say, this is in no way a reflection on your extension. I think it's great

Mine just arrived.

Fitted and I have to say its a revelation.

100mm I got and it feels just right and gives a really good feel for everything Ive tried with it.

Cant wait to try it on a Heli or two.

As a RL pilot, although of light aircraft, I like the fact that the longer 'throw' allows more precise control, particularly around the centre.

Its great, well recommended.

The ball isn't what will break first (trust me). It will likely be the magnet detaching. I currently have a a stick that can be rotated continuously, and yes, the extension is still on it :( (I haven't gotten around to disassembling and fixing it).

I'm another satisfied customer. Ordered the 120mm version and it was dispatched the same day.

It's a solid chunk of metal. Cable took me a few minutes to work out since I'm all thumbs when it comes to connectors. But once attached everything worked as before.

The difference takes a little getting used to. I tended to over-do my stick inputs since I've been conditioned by the short-throw and heavy feel of the un-modded stick.

But within a day or so it became second nature. Only problem is I can no longer blame my dodgy landings on anyone but myself!

Thank you for the extension. Very solid, and neat piece of craftsmanship. Very satisfied with the 120mm extension and wasyl00 was nice to deal with during my enquiries.

Thanks again, and keep up the good work.
