I haven't looked yet, but did anyone look to see what the TF weighs (in the sim) compared to the armed version?

If you have P-51 and check the box "Civilian" in the ME you will have TF-51. Anyway, the weight is displayed in ME for TF-51 as well.

Any chance some system for using the smoke generators will be added? Seems like this of all the aircraft ought to be the one using it.

Pull in front of me in MP and I'll tap the cannons and you'll have smoke on :)

That would require the weapon systems to be put back in, AFAIK.

There are many real airplanes which have no weapon system or smoke system implemented but can carry and use smoke generators. Imo it would be okay if the ability to load just the smoke gens and to toggle them with a button (no need to implement one in the cockpit) would be implemented :D

You can think of an external "system" to activate the smoke, e.g. sth like a garage door opener so theres no need for a cockpit built in system and the ability to load a smoke gen on the wings is already coded and just needs to be "copy/pasta"ed :D Would be rly rly nice

Likely is rather "unlikely" actually. I've never, ever seen a Mustang with an exhaust smoke system. I've seen one with smoke and it was using under-wing pods.

It would require some kind of system to be implemented.

Would it be wild and crazy to have smoke generators the only thing you can equip on this plane and then you could just have a binding for "Fire Weapons" that turns the smoke on without any need for an internal switch?

EDIT. I should also mention that after having flown the TF-51D for the first time tonight, there are still all the old switches in there for the combat version, they just do nothing.

imo the smoke thing would be great because the TF is for:

- Training for the P-51D

- Flying around :D

- Takeoff/Landing

- aaand perfect for aerobatics (better than the P-51D)

-> smoke would be great and imo a realistic feature

But there are no working switches on a stick. Maybe there are a switches in a front dashboard but without switches on a stick those switches on dashboard are useless...

Smoke would be nice, but they will not implement it for one reason. The reason is to do not allow me to replace smoke pods with a rockets and have some fun ;-)

Anyway i like the new TF-51D, its fun to fly on aerobatics servers.

DCS A-10C is only for enthertaiment??? Not for me.

This is in the current released version, or is this an upcoming change in the beta patch? Didn't see it in the notes.

What a wonderful idea! I've been telling people to try DCS World, but I've always had to add the disclaimer that the free Su-25 isn't maximum fidelity. Now I can tell my friends about a maximum-fidelity free P-51 simulator which they can try, which they can then buy if they want the weapons. Very cool!

1.2.8 Open Beta

The first thing in the change log.

Added FREE TF-51D for DCS World! This is the P-51D with the weapons, radios and rear tank removed with a jump seat added in the back. This does not include dual controls.

- aaand perfect for aerobatics (better than the P-51D)

From what I understand, this is the exact same weight and performance that you get from the P-51, with the civilian box checked in the ME.

Nope.

P-51D is 7824lbs empty

TF-51D is 7251lbs empty

The wingtanks take 1105lbs of fuel

So the P-51D Mustang is 8929lbs (68% fuel) without gun ammo and the TF-51D Mustang is 8356lbs with full tanks

If you build a mission for the P-51D and have slots for it, will people be able to fly from those spots with just the free TF version? Just curious.

I would imagine that the answer is no, since the sim sees the TF as a different aircraft.

pretty sure Yo-Yo said that if you check "Civilian Version" in the ME you get the TF-51D, and that the weights are different.

Start a Mission in the P-51D,

Bring up re-arm menu, Remove Gun Ammo, and look at total weight and fuel weight.

Do the same for the TF-51D.

There's no pylons, the 6 Guns are removed, or at least the rounds. (not sure if ED Modeled it with Faux Barrels, or just no ammo and system), Aft Fuel Tank Removed, Radios Removed.

the Jump seat is added in the space behind the seat were equipment was normally.

7251 lbs empty (8356 Full Fuel) vs 7824 Empty (9438 Full Fuel) is not the same.

Civil Plane Checkbox is to toggle between P-51D and TF-51D, for Owners of the P-51D module.

Why would that be in there? I can just place a TF-51D in the Editor and compare to the actual P-51D. Why the additional (civ checkbox) TF-51D?

So P-51D Owners dont have to build another set of controls for another plane? I dunno:pilotfly:

Seems you can load smoke and weapons on the civilian P-51 :D

launcher2014-04-0818-zpsl1.png checking right now if you can use them xD

Edit: it's just the regular P-51D model with adjusted weight, nothing more. So if you want the TF-51 model you need to use the TF-51D. checkbox just adjusts weight and disables the guns as of right now.

I think you're mistaken Skate, possibly due to Yo-Yo's slightly broken English.

Civilian tickbox is already there in 1.2.7. It removes the guns amongst other changes.

I think what Yo-Yo was trying to say was that the TF-51D is the same stats-wise/performance wise as a civil P51D, aka they're equivalent. Not that you get a TF-51D if you tick that box.
