WildBillKelsoe Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I'm a ground pounder by nature. Will we see a full fidelity Ju-87 Stuka in the future? thx AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
Narushima Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 (edited) It was completely obsolete by this time, especially on the Western front. More likely to see a FW 190, Arado 234 or even an Me 262 attacking ground targets than a Ju-87. Stuka production stopped in 1942. Mango Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Interesting information. I've recently read that the Stuka's were considered outdated even during the Battle of Britain. Mainly because they can't really operate without complete air superiority.

dooom Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 ah man - i LOVED flying the stuka in WWIIOL. Its probably why my missions always have a heavy A2G element in DCS. Its very hard to wipe mud off the boots :) There was nothing better that forming as a group and heading toward the River Meuse to attack the groundpounders. a 1941 war would be a blast with this kind of fidelity nowadays. tK05DKvKdEU ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
otto Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Stukas were used until very late in the war if not until the end of the war on the east front. I know about a stuka atack from 1944 on the west front but that was a singular event and not that successful .
DB 605 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 How about "heavy stuka", Ju 88 then :D It's my favourite plane in TF CloD, god that bird would be so awesome with DCS fidelity... More likely to see a FW 190, Arado 234 or even an Me 262 attacking ground targets than a Ju-87. Stuka production stopped in 1942. I just finished reading Rudel's book. Drop his political cr*p, and it was a pretty interesting read on the whole early CAS and anti-tank efforts. Especially the BK37 equipped Stuka's. The Stuka continued into production, through late 1944, from what I gather. Though of no use on the Western front, due to it being suicidal to fly a Stuka across the channel, especially with Radar vectored intercepts. With Rudel at the helm, I was amazed to read that he was never shot down by an enemy fighter. Though he was brought down over 30 times, due to Flak. How the heck could a Stuka pilot survive that long, and not be shot down by enemy fighters. Especially with all of his sorties. Scrim Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Well, since both the Germans and Japanese insisted on keeping the high scoring pilots deployed on the front line until they died pretty much, instead of sending them back to train new pilots like the Allies did, you're really bound to get at least a few who not only rack up a very impressive tally, but also survive despite incredible odds.
WildBillKelsoe Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 I doubt a good target if AI gunner is in your back. If an AI Stuka gunner is anywhere close to what these "marksmen" machine gunners are, with the tanks & APC's, no doubt... The high command on several occasions, ordered that Rudel could no longer fly. But he managed to dodge that. Still, I find it amazing that flying over 2,500+ sorties, in such a slow flying bird, was never brought down by a fighter. Any rate, would be cool to fly it in a sim. Probably go get IL-2, to fly it on the Eastern Front.
