Wow what a sensation! Feels like real flying. The only thing that keeps drawing me back to Il2 is there is plenty to shoot at. Whereas in DCS, I am just a lonely pony, occasionally picking on D9 dummies.

Yes,

I am really looking forward for additional ww2 aircraft, but also Korea... I can't learn how to fly the modern fighters - too old to learn :-/

Meanwhile, trying to master the p51d in aerobatics or 1vs1 against an AI Fw-190.

Same here, I played IL-2 1946 all the time a while back, until I got into LOMAC and DCS: Black Shark :)

I love DCS too, top notch sim. Though I do fly the IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad. Especially the Kanonenvogel. Love the Stuka with the 37mm cannons...

come fly with us on the Dogs of War server... we are starting to put together some nice PvP missions to swap the 190s into as soon as they are released.

we make sure to have a good time with what we have in dcs!

Welcome, sir! I also just got the P-51D (previously I had been flying the F-15C), so I've only had a few days experience with it, but it is an absolute blast to fly so far.

I echo doom's thoughts above -- I've heard great things about their Dogs of War server for WW2 aircraft, its where I plan to fly when I take the P51 online for some fun. Check it out.

jcomm: I get the whole WWII thing. And I never thought I would have the time to learn modern AC. But I purchased the A-10C and use it pretty regularly. Honestly.....it's not as fun to me as the P-51 but I do still like it. And it is a little overwhelming to try and learn at first. I also like the Huey. I learned it pretty quickly. But I'm practically peeing my pants waiting for the F-86.

Yep, and I actually bought it right after the Ka-50. I used it for a while like if it was an executive jet :-) Performed some ILS approaches, x-wind landings, tested the flight dynamics, the turbine engine modelling and thought to myself - at last a realistic simulator! :-)

IL-2 Battle Of Stalingrad, developed by 777 team is very good in terms of flight model as well...

Same AFM developer as Su-25/ Su-25T, Rise of Flight... just saying...

I couldn't agree more. It's in IL2 BOS I spend the most part of my simmer time lately. Also made me buy Rise of Flight :-)

This being said, I find DCS's p51d and both the UH-1H and Mi-8 models simply the best I ever found in any PC-based flight simulator!

I just had my first landing in pony last nite. I got it on the first try, albeit bumpy. I saw pre-purchase for D9 is up. Soon there will be a lot of stall mates for pony to play with.

Technically not quite the same AFM,,, its evolved a lot since the person involved had left. Regardless, this isnt the place to compare the 2, we should talk DCS here, and IL2 there.

Nope... I think this, or a comparison thread, is as good as any.

DCS has a flight model, improved on IL2 no doubt, but a lot can be learn't from the IL2 series wrt to prop aircraft.

I like both games, my main interest in DCS lies with contemporary aircraft, at least until there are designated theatres for Vietnam/Korea/WW2 etc. I did buy P-51 and will continue to purchase everything that gets made for DCS but i rarely fly it.

Apples and oranges... comparing them is frowned upon here, and isnt needed for ED to make a excellent product.

That's a pity.. a IL2 had a lot going for it..

Turning one's nose up at an excellent product (be it yesteryear) you'll repeat the same mistakes.... and may I say 'this is already happening'

Nobody is turning their nose up at anything....

1.12. - While general news and updates on other simulation projects are allowed in the Other Sims section, this is a privately run forum for Eagle Dynamics projects. General discussion and product support of other titles does not belong here and should be moved to the appropriate publisher / developer website.

Some developers take issues with their products being discussed here... we try to avoid any issues like that.

No problem...

But if you think of it... having a constructive DCS-vs-IL2 thread would convert many others...

But the way this seems to be handled, as with many other types of 'SIMS' is more destructive... and smacks of Pongo type sims.

Sorry.. this is a joke right.

Maybe the Devs need to get their grey cells re-organised... I ( and a gazillion others) buy their products... listen to us and maybe you make a bit more money.... (get off your high horse)

I believe he meant that the developers of other sim/games take issue with their products being discussed here. There was an incident where I posted, on this forum, a critique of a different flight sim-game by another developer, and one of the developers of that other sim-game saw it and was upset by it. That sort of thing is why Eagle Dynamics' forum moderators discourage other flight sim-games being discussed here. It has nothing to do with Eagle Dynamics having a thin skin -- to the contrary, they seem quite open to having their own sim discussed, with its strengths & weaknesses.

After BS1 came out IL2 lost all appeal. It was the only title I played for a very long time.

I miss the pacific theatre the most but I just can't go back especially with the Dora just around the corner.

Dreaming of a DCS:WWII with loads of aircraft at FC3 level mixed with proper DCS.

Oh yeah btw we neeedd more Kaboom!!!!
