I was about to take this route myself and start making a polished skin for the F-86 using the leading edge of the wing on that one skin as a template for the polish. I was hoping I would not need to use custom skins for this effect as this polished effect showed up in the trailer. But according to the other link you posted DCS just removed that skin from the release of the module, so it will have to be custom now.

BoNidle Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) With the release of DCS World OpenBeta I am trying to re-do (for about the 7th time) my previous Sabres and get some new ones out too. This is the result of my efforts so far taking advantage of the new graphics engine. I do not want to go too polished but at the same time I do not want to lose the nice effects the new engine provides by going too worn. I still feel its a bit too polished but its still a work in progress. (Tanks haven't been matched yet). Any opinions, constructive criticism welcomed. I am trying out an attempt at an operational finish rather than the high shine ones I have been doing to date. The trick is not to go "grey paint finish" accidentally. I'm hoping to post this sometime later this afternoon. Any thoughts/criticisms always welcome. (If anyone has the names of Mahurins crew chief and armourer I'd appreciate any details as I can find nothing so far. The names on the data panel are therefore ficticious). Also, The UVW Layout has changed considerably for the smaller stuff (gear bays, intake, exhaust etc etc). and w/ 2.0.2+ there's now NOSE Bort Meshes that you'll have to put an empty texture on. crazyeddie Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 SkateZilla Am I right in thinking that we might be able to use a single generic 'spec' layer that would be useable on all old skins ? Having told Chief my software cannot create specific 'spec' layers I have been looking at it again, and using a layer borrowed from Strut's RAAF pack I can get a decent rework of my old skins, not perfect but acceptable for me, and others perhaps. I'm using very old PhotoImpact 10 software so 'spec' is a non starter for me with that, but a generic layer could solve the problem in part, if somebody was willing to create it or allow us to use theirs. The nose Bort meshes are not a problem really, just makes for a bigger description.lua, which is a pain I know but can be done with some care and time. Thanks for telling us about that, I did not know it had changed in 2.0.2, have not got that far yet !!
SkateZilla Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) The Specular Layers for the new skin have the new weathering layers, You **COULD** use the Spec Layer from my Universal (Bare Metal Weathered) Livery, but you'd get odd matte sections where the dirt and grim build ups would be. Even then, it's not just the specular layer, the diffuse layer layout has changed, things where added and moved around. If needed, Link All Your Liveries here, and when I get time this week I'll Import the Diffuse Layer to my Template and Re-Export the DDS w/ Weathering, and a blank specular DDS and Then Attach them here for you so you can upload new ones to user files,. Or I'll see about exporting a Specular DDS with no weathering or decals. I was looking at the new nose numbers you mentioned and in DCS2 they have created a few new skins with the new formats and a default no symbols mat spec file, and that works just fine. Many thanks for help mate, as always much appreciated. I am going to redo my skin packs ready for DCS2 now, that will keep me out of mischief for a few months !!!!
