Guess its time for a new video.

:pilotfly:

How much flight time does this bird have if its range is 750 miles? At top speeds it could almost cover that in less than 40 minutes.

I'd like to know that too, and if that means at full military power or cruise setting

speed for longest range is IAS 600-650km/h,

speed for longest flight duration is around IAS 480km/h

So you can do simply calculation.

I think SimFreak wanted to talk about the low alt recovery mode of autopilot which is different from the simple recovery mode (turn AC into level flight at any alt, like Su-25T's, but I don't know whether they have any difference in functionality...

Yeah, small distinction.

The mode you are specifically referring to is a rudimentary form of the АУ-КВ (Barometric Altitude Hold) mode on the 25T. Again, in this instance it's basically an emergency levelling mode *probably* (depending on parameters) preventing you from lawndarting: Difference is that you don't need to hit a button: You do however need to remember to flick a switch.

Since MiG21 does not have roll-trim, once with unbalanced payload, does recovery mode still work?

Oh yes indeed - no reason for it not to :)

At top speed with 100% internal fuel you have 7 minutes, including take-off, before you turn into an expensive glider :pilotfly:

Hrm. This bird goes mach 2+, right? But that is then more of a theoretical figure - even with external tanks?

No it's not theoretical and yes, very much dependant on load-out. Let's just say my figures are with a bomb/rocket combo, no external tank.

This bird is very, very much dependant on management: Treat her well, understand her and she's deadly, nimble and graceful. Take the pi$$ and you're just flying an expensive coffin with a lifespan you can measure in minutes, if not seconds.

I'm going to assume you're going to be a freshman? Give it a few weeks and then you'll realize that your college years are the years where you will have the most time to screw off in your entire late-to-post teenage life. College isn't that hard or that time consuming, trust me. I went to a top US business school, 10% of my time was spent studying or at class, the other 90% was spent drinking, drugging, partying, gaming, or sleeping. Pack your rig.

It also depends on the major. I was an engineering major doing NROTC, and my time was pretty much spoken for. I had some free time, but not nearly as much as the B-schoolers who by the way could also juggle NROTC and fraternity demands.

Not a slam on business school (I'd probably do that if I could do it over again), but just a perspective from a different major.

@Zakatak, and yes, take your rig. Just keep things in balance. :joystick:

Did you mean the low alt recovery mode is kind of baro alt hold? Since the recovery mode is already for level flight and somehow works like a baro alt hold. So the only diff between them is that low alt mode can set a threshold, and once the AGL of AC is smaller than the threshold, AP system will control the AC to climb? Correct me if I was wrong.

No bother, although admittedly it's not so much a 'controlled' climb as it is a 'kick-in-the-b*#*s' climb to safe altitude, no doubt intentional in order to to teach the pilot a lesson :D

what would happen if both are engaged?

Low-Alt Recovery mode has precedence.
