Maybe an F-94! (One of the guys at Lockonforum.de had that idea)

Uh, never heard of that aircraft before but you might be onto something. It would fit the time area and it probably is of similar complexity than the MiG-21.

However, how would one explain the Marines statement? I don't think the Marines would ever consider an interceptor for their missions...

Perhaps its the F-104 xD

Could be. I think the German Navy (translation: Deutsche Marine) used it, but I don't think the USMC did.

Yes they did! The widow-maker sure would be a great addition for DCS. Especially after it has been cancelled before...

I edited my post above. It was the German Navy that used it, the Navy translation in German is Marine.

For me, having it be the F-104 instead of the F-14 would be the letdown of a lifetime...but I know it would make many other happy.

i would actually prefer the 104 in many ways.

It would be a great match to the 21.

It was very widley used and would be a very interesting aircraft.

And also since its a more simple design then the F-14 (seeing as the F-14 is a 2 seat with flexible wings) the F-104 could probably get here faster.

Umm, I think that with all of the huge hints at the F-14 it will probably end up being the F-14 not the F-104 (which by the way, does not fit like any of the hints we have gotten so far).

DCS: F-4E really needs to be a thing!!!!!!

The F-14 would be insanely great! I hope for a variant with LTS pod, so that it can also be used for ground attack and lasing LMavs and GBUs for the Hornets ;-)

So my preferences are: F-14 > F-104 > F-4 > F-5

If you try to fight a MiG21 with a Starfighter you can as well stay at home. The Starfighter is anything but a fighter, it's an Interceptor. Get up and on spot fast, bang a bomber and go home again. The Mig is made with dogfighting in mind. German Airforce first used the F-104 as a Fighter, Fighterbomber and CAS aircraft and that's why it's got the nickname Widow Maker. It's fast, but it's nowhere near agile. Not in a hundred years a match for the MiG, just a victim.

As much as I love the F-104, it wouldn't be a fair fight against a MiG-21. The huge majority of Starfighters can't even carry a medium range radar missiles of any kind. Only the handful of Italian F-104Ss were cleared for Sparrows.

F-104 would be even less "relevant" in DCS than the MiG-21 is. The F-5 is better as direct opposition to the MiG-21.

If i'm not mistaken, the 21 isn't a dogfighter as well but an interceptor like the 104. Great climb and roll rate but not really that agile. I think the two would be more closely matched than you think.

An Italian F-104 with all its upgrades and bells and whistles is something that I would love to see actually, they made it a very capable multirole fighter.

Same radar as the F-16C and everything.

With weapons mounted, we're talking about a 5g limit in a turn. And, even clean, it bleeds speed very readily.

It accelerates and climbs like a monster, but I wouldn't describe it as "nimble."

Even still, isn't that the draw of combat flight sims? Having to utilize strategies that better fit your aircraft?

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!
