Ha, I was gonna say that but thought nobody would get the reference :)

Talk to me , Goose!

Honestly it's extremely obvious what the next module is. Why there is still speculation for anything else is beyond me. But i have to admit i do really enjoy this little game.

There was a much longer rant in here but I decided to shorten it a bit. Really? I can't say if it was irony or trolling but not everyone is familiar with morse code, so thanks for stealing 2 hours of my lifetime. It wasn't even funny, but all this cryptic shit is driving me nuts. Why can't they just say what it is? Or at least _when_ they will announce what they are doing next. Honestly, that's the easiest way to drive away potential customers. This ain't teasing, this is taunting. Can't believe no-one is as pissed as I am.

Btw: It says NO HIDDEN CODE HERE

If you're mad over being unable to spend money on what is a frivolity, you need to sit back and get a grip.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

Hmmm this thread kinda went in a COMPLETELY different path. The thread was originally about an interview with leatherneck...

Interview with Leatherneck Studios

Let's assume it's the Tomcat, which model is the most likely from the clues we've received? Probably the B, right?

The picture Cobra used in his avatar was of the AWG-9 radar...which was used in the A and B model F-14. The D model had the upgraded APG-71 radar...still, the vertical stabilizer VF101 Grim Reaper he used in his avatar was what they used on the F-14D's they flew http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vf-101_grim_reapers_tomcat_tail.jpg. I'm not sure if the A/B models the Grim Reapers flew had the same vertical stabilizer decal?

Personally, I hope it's the D....because the D is badass, much moreso than the B, and even more so than the A. Regardless, I would obviously be pumped for any of the above to be developed.

Comparing the B to the D, the D received:

- A 30% increase in usable thrust

- Avionic and radar upgrade that is digital instead of analog with twice the range...but the original AWG-9 had a detectible range of like 125nm, so, doubling that is unnecessary.

- The D's APG-71 radar is all aspect with overland look down, while AWG-9 in the A/B does not.

- Can carry both Aim-54 and Aim-120s, while the B model can only carry the Aim-54s. Both can carry the Aim-7 and Aim-9's.

- Has passive infrared detection capability while the B does not.

- Has a ground mapping radar

All F-14s have very limited air-to-ground capability, the Hornet is much more capable. Tomcats can only carry LGB's.

For reference, the A is pretty much the same as the B...just has weaker engines.

Tomcat would be pretty awesome but AFAIK we still don't have anything like virtual copilots/aircraft sharing. I think it was promised with the Huey way back when.

It's coming. The L-39 which ED is planning to release will be the first to have multi-player functionality. That will open the door for other modules.

Wasn't B also able to drop LGBs?

I believe after Desert Storm both the A's and B's were updated to have air-to-ground capabilities, but I'm not 100%.

LGB support was added through the addition of the LTS pod, an upgraded version of the LANTIRN system (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LANTIRN).

All versions of the Tomcat could be fitted with it. AFAIK it only required a software update + the pod itself.

The LTS system was improved over time to work from higher altitudes (20k feet limit was increased to 40k due to requirements in Afghanistan) and further improved to support JDAMS on the D version (only afaik) for operations in Iraq.

Up to 1994, the date of the military document I was reading, the Navy couldn't afford to equip the D's to carry JDAMs and JSOWs, but that very well may have changed in later years. Hopefully someone who is much more knowledgable than myself will chime in to confirm.

I know that due to the AWG-9 radar in A's and B's, and the lack of FLIR, the attack abilities were inaccurate and limited to optimal viability conditions. The D model made the necessary system improvements to circumvent that issue.

Actually with the addition of the LTS, all Tomcat version became very precise ground attack platforms. They were so successfull at lasing LGBs that they started to lase bombs for Navy & Marine Hornet crews on a regular basis.

If you're interested in the topic, have a look at F-14 Tomcat Units of OEF and US Navy F-14 Tomcat Units of Operation Iraqi Freedom

So post 1994 did all the A and B models get approval for the Block I update to have FLIR, etc. added? Otherwise in poor visibility conditions or poor weather, it'd be damn near impossible to be accurate (when you can't see your target visually and you don't have a ground mapping capability).
