Pilot Body

Does ED plan on adding pilot bodies to other aircraft in the future as they've done in the SU27? I myself STRONGLY prefer no pilot body. If so, I would suggest that it be optional. Let me rephrase that, I beg that it be made optional.

It's not just the 27 it's also the 33

You have an option in Options page, and there's a keycommand to enable/disable it.

 

It doesn't work for Huey and Mi-8 though, but as far as I know it must work for FC3. If not, it's obvious that all this option is available for Ka-50. :D

 

Honestly, I like pilot existence in cockpit, but I'd like to disable pilots especially in Mi-8 cockpit to gain some FPS.

edit: although if you can't hide them in huey/mi-8 (I don't fly choppers!), then I agree it should be togglable there as well.

I don't have pilot body checked on OPTIONS but it still appears in the SU27. Is there a key command to remove it?

To all folks worried about the "huge" impact could cause in your frame rate, let me tell you:

That body contains no more than 2000 triangles and 5MB of textures. That's insignificant in today's GPUs!!

It has nothing to do with FPS for me. I just don't like the cartoonish look the body has.

You can disable "Show pilot body when available" in the options. Interestingly though, for me, with the option enabled it does not show the pilots body in the P51-D but does in the flanker :huh:

I don't think the option does anything useful at all.

In most aircraft you can use LCTRL+P or something such to toggle pilot body though.

I like the pilot body. Finally no "ghost in the shell" of the plane. (Su-33 has also pilot body... is actually the one in Ka-50 by the looks and name of the texture)

 

The new setting in the menu (actually is old... few patches before, I think) plus the "Toggle pilot body" key command in some o the modules (command that will be extended I think and maybe even can be modded now) will satisfy all the choices... maybe now it doesn't work perfect but for sure it will.

Also, I would like to see the pilot body's skin to be customizable and skinable to match the respective pilot's role. And, of course, the pilot's skin inside the cockpit should match the skin when the pilot is shown outside the plane, e.g. after ejecting. There still seems to be a disconnect in the graphics department.

 

Looking forward to all DCS planes and helos to have a visible pilot inside them (yes, 3rd party developed modules, too). :)

Not to mention a head. I can understand why they don't have a head ... because "you" are the head. But still. Looks silly to me. Even one that looked straight ahead would be better.

I agree. TrackIR really makes that lack of a head quite obvious.

If it had head you would see its internals... eyes... tongue... etc... and seeing the head from outside makes it immersion killer. You are that head, of course, it would be like those "outer body experience" from silly movies.

 

If you tweak the view.lua (for DCS Su-27) or server.lua + snapviews.lua (for DCS FC3) you can make that neck part almost not seen-able.
