Is this another speculation, just like mine, or are there official words on it?

Yes its official, that is why Wag's avatar was Gilligan for a long time, but the project was canceled when they couldn't come to an agreement on one question.... Ginger or Mary Ann?

No it's a joke sir, sorry to confuse the issue. The changes to banners or Avatars mean nothing, you should know that by now you've been here longer than me:)

I see. That was a shame. They could have held a public vote. I would definitely vote for Mary Ann... :D

In contrary, what I perceived is that the banner definitely means something... Of course, I can't give you a statistical analysis, because I have only one data point. The previous banner was about Su-27, which was up there since around Christmas 2013. The new Su-27 PFM was released about a year later. There was no other major releases from ED during that time period.

Speculation mode enabled.

We know Edge is coming and those are storm clouds so maybe it's a little pre-release hype possibly.

It's the Hormuz map that intrigues me and forgive me for being a kook but I think Hormuz = F18

Also, I just ordered a book called The Ace Factor: Air Combat and The Role of Situational Awareness. Is it any good?

It's interesting but mostly it just proves the point that SA is very important. I don't think it has much that would make you better fighter pilot unless you really don't believe that SA matters. It's mostly about history (maybe about half is about WW1) and has some fascinating stories in it. In the end of the book it has some presumably Korean war era tactics articles which are useful but you can find better stuff in the internet.

You guys have it all wrong.

There is a picture of clouds with no aircraft showing. That can be inferred what a radar would see with a stealth aircraft: nothing. Stealth aircraft? Yes. DCS: F-35, DCS: F-22, and DCS: B-2 confirmed. Thanks Wags!

DCS: Klingon B'rel class CONFIRMED and PROMISED!!!!!

All of you are wrong. You can't see it but there's a klingon ship class B'rel with cloak device active. Go to see Star Trek for reference.

Now we will need one Federation ship for combat and no let it orphan...

I'd say it's really quite simple.

Clouds represent rain. What's the least likely place to see rain? Right, Nevada.

What's one of the most likely places to see rain? Right, Ireland.

Therefore, EDGE will obviously be released with a new DCS: Ireland terrain.

Of course, the message doesn't end there. The Irish Gaelic name for Ireland is "Eire". Let's start with the obvious assignment of numbers to letters (A = 1, B = 2 and so on).

W A G S
23 1 7 19 = 50

E I R E
5 9 18 5 = 37

==================
                50
               -37
              = 13

Also, comparison of individual numbers:

23 1 7 19
-5 9 18 5
==================
18 -8 -11 14 = 13

We are practically required to deduct that the number 13 is of the utmost importance when it comes to solving the riddle!

The banner was apparently exchanged on the 20th. 13 workdays into the future is Friday, February 6th. ED releases updates on Fridays. Now we can easily deduct that EDGE and DCS: Ireland will be released on February 6th, 2015.

See? Mystery solved.

In case my Ireland-theory doesn't hold up, you might be on to something there.

See, Kirk and his crew took a Bird of Prey to the 20th century to find and transport some whales (Whales, Mr. Scott!) back to the future, the reason for the endeavor being that an alien probe disrupted the earth's atmosphere, resulting in -- lots of clouds!

So, yeah, a Klingon DCS: Bird of Prey definitely sounds realistic. It would also be a perfect showcase for multi-crew shared-bridge. If we're lucky, it'll even include sling-load-capability right from the start!

However, the Disruptors will most likely turn out to be counter-productive for the multiplayer environment. I can already imagine a multitude of "The Bird of Prey is totally overpowered, DCS is totally unbalanced now!" threads.

You guys are - of course - all wrong, stop embarrassing yourself.

See, if you download the header image and take a look at it, you will notice that its dimensions are 3500 x 126, which equals to 441000. Now add 4+4+1 (forget the zeros, no one cares about those insubstantial losers) and you get 9. 9!

There, don't you see it?! 3 times 3 equals 9! 3! It's all about the 3! What other reason could they possibly have to pick the above image dimensions other then that it all comes down to the 3?!

Do you see it now?!

Half-Life 3 & DCS crossover confirmed! That's why we haven't heard news about HL3 all these years! Not because Valve are a bunch of lazy bums, its because Valve is secretly working together with ED to build one giant master piece! One game to rule them all, first person shooters and sims!

Oh think of the possibilities! A military grade gravity gun mounted on a Huey! Dropping headcrabs from a Warthog! Prancing around in a strider! Flying CAS for Gordon Freeman! (Well, unfortunately for him he is mute, so he can't call it in, but that's of course his problem!)

The possibilities are endless!

And even more insidious, those sneaky bastards at ED don't have to worry about compelling campaigns any more because obviously Valve would build the campaign. How ingenious! I am impressed, ED! Well played.

I for one welcome our new headcrab dropping overlords!

heresay to say the least... until something is confirmed officially by ED, its all a ruse. Don't get your hopes up.

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

Well, true, but if we look to the classics for council we can clearly see how some low tech can overcome even the fiercest odds.

Independence Day teaches us that you can bring down an entire alien invasion fleet with just a rugged bunch of F/A-18. Well, and an Apple Powerbook.

And even a mob of rebel malcontents are able to destroy the shining beacon of civilization with just hokey religions and ancient starfighters.

Incidentally, both accomplished by crop dusting farmers.

So in regard of the Bird of Prey I'd say: Gimme a bunch of farmers and a squad of A-10's and we'll down the bitch.

Well, or some Bf 109 and dinosaurs - because everything is better with dinosaurs.

So what's up with the new banner? I mean, yeah, at first glance it might seem to indicate that the northern hemisphere is approaching spring time, what with the name "header_spring.jpg" and all, but obviously we won't be distracted by such superfluous impressions.

The very first thing your keen eyes will no doubt already have noticed is the file size of 88,716 bytes - a dead giveaway.

88 is obviously a reference to the famous German anti aircraft gun of WWII, a clear signal that the Normandy map is on the verge of completion, along with the imminent Spitfire release.

716, only slightly obscured, hints to the 1970 first flight of the F-14A and renews LNS' promise to release their F-14 later this year.

Expressing the file size as Kilobytes, rounded for two decimals, is more like a hint at events past, seeing as 86.64 obviously refers to the switch from 32 bit x86 micro architecture to the now mandatory 64 bit Operating Systems.

All in all, I must admit though that I was only able to take a quick peek at the rather obvious implications of the new banner. It'll be interesting to see if you guys can find some of the more well hidden secrets it indubitably holds.

I think that the light in the middle is a representation of the AI singularity and is alluding to the fact that ED has improved the AI to the point that dcs is about to become self aware. Soon the software will be so smart that it will be better at programming itself than humans, this can only lead to one thing....... War games anyone?
