How would an F-14D stack up against an F-111 in the bombing role?

Depends on what you want to do. The F-111 was a pice of crap just overall.

One day in DCS... Vipers will fly along side Tomcats... Bugs with Superbugs, Tiffy's with Tornado's, Fulcrums with Flankers and Mirage with Rafales...

:)The Future of DCS is a bright one:)

F-111 had a bomb bay and twice as much internal fuel. Side-by-side seating is appreciated by crews for long missions.

Joe Baugher gives this data:

F-111F Internal fuel capacity was 5043 US gallons

F-14D Maximum internal fuel 2385 US gallons

So while it seems fairly clear this is the F-14 already, I figured I'd add this...

The "Welcome Back Baby" might be related to this book "Grumman F-14 Tomcat: Bye - Bye Baby...!: Images & Reminiscences From 35 Years of Active Service"

http://www.amazon.com/Grumman-F-14-Tomcat-Reminiscences-Service/dp/0760339813

That book was also where Cobra got his preview pic from the January update as I recall. But the "Welcome Back Baby" can also refer to the "Anytime Baby" that was the Tomcat motto:

So at this point I'd say we already know what Cobra is going to announce for at least one plane. Unless this is just the biggest trolling from a developer ever.

Could Welcome back, Baby mean the F-14 comes back to service from Retirement on DCSW? :D

So there's the stupidest thing I'll read all day..

It's an outstanding strike platform. It was a piece of crap in the jack-of-all-trades role that McNamara originally envisioned, but that's what you can expect whenever you try to cram an obvious deep strike fighter in to a carrier-borne interceptor role. It kicked ass in Libya and Desert Storm, and the FB-111 served an essential role in SAC as a low level supersonic fighter-bomber while B-52s were becoming relegated to standoff cruise missile attacks owing to the Soviet SAM threat.

A lot of pilots risked their lives doing wild weasel missions in them too

I can't see why... The F-111 was more capable in pretty much every way (faster, longer range, could carry a lot more). The Su-24 was a pretty poor imitation.

Not imitation..

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I just prefer the Soviet aircrafts more :) And i think the Su-24 is sexier and i like the armament a lot more :D

But i dont know if i rather take an Mig-27K with that wonderful 30mm gatling gun or the Su-24

Excuse me sir but you are completely wrong.

First, the Su-24 is not an imitation of the F-111, just like the Tu-160 is not an imitation of the B-1. It's simply different designers finding the same solution to the same problems.

Also, even comparing the two aircraft makes no sense. Despite a similar appearance they weren't intended for the same roles. The Su-24 wasn't meant to be very long ranged, as its Russian nickname implies - "Frontline Bomber". It was also intended to carry cruise missiles, as those are a very important element of the Russian strategy, and greatly increase the delivery range, while the Americans believe in precision bomb strikes.

Saying the F-111 is better than the Su-24 is like saying the A-10 is better than the B-52 - Why compare them ?
