I know right. I didn't know much about the mig21 before this but now I couldn't imagine a life without it.

ive always had a crush on the yak 38 ever since i saw one get blown up in red dawn, back as a small lad... thinking of a red dawn campaign on neveda, that would be fun

Yeah who cares if it is not competition for current aircraft, the damn thing is a VTOL plane! Since we aren't going to see an F-35 anytime soon, the Yak would still be a very unique and fun aircraft to fly.. I would buy one in a heartbeat.. And same for any version of Harrier as well..

+1, i've always liked the Forger, ever since i saw it on the F-19 Stealth Fighter recognition guide. I know it's a crappy airplane, so what? I like challenges, and it's a unique and challenging aircraft, i'd certainly buy it. To be honest i'd buy anything from LNS, if only for the theatre they want to include with each new module.

If they make F-16 and Tornado, we will have all 4 gen main fighters )))

USA: Leatherneck F-14A, DCS ED F-15C, Leatherneck F-16C, DCS EDF/A-18C

Russia AF: DCS ED Su-27/33, Mig-29.

Europe: Razbam Mirage 2000, Leatherneck Tornado

Other Middle East countryies: Leatherneck Mig-21

Then 4 gens ( for 1990 year)will nearly to complete )))

So, I think they making F-16 and Tornado )))

Only Missing 2 titles: Mig-31 and AV-8B.

You can't compare Flaming Cliffs modules with ASM modules... There's no 4th gen russian counterpart for the 4th gen NATO fighters in development... At least that we are aware of... And IMO that will be the gap to fill once M2000 and F18C are released...

Honestly, despite the fact of prefering NATO fighters, I'd love to see some russian ones to fight against.

It'd be nice to get an early Fulcrum to fill that need.

Yes guys. This threat start as speculation and now is a wish list with someone above talking about Mig-29. Come on

What is the reason to think the next aircraft is the Viggen?

Well...everything.

SAAB 37 Viggen

  1. Cobra's image of an RB-04 Anti Shipping Missile, only used on the Tunnan, Lansen and Viggen.
  2. Immediately after Cobra's previous avatar was discovered, he changed it to a Swedish Emblem.
  3. The introduction of new Swedish members to the team.
  4. Ground Mapping and Targeting Radar
  5. New and unique PFM features and aerodynamic configurations (Delta with canards, plus those canards have flaps - first for DCS).
  6. Complex missiles with Advanced Targeting Parameters (RB 04 has some unique characteristics, is fire and forget, can lock onto the ECM emissions).
  7. New or unique methods of propulsion or force distribution, the Viggen being one of the few military fighter aircraft with a thrust reverser.
  8. the Tomcat lead up announcements indicating Cats and Ducks, Viggen can be translated as a kind of Tufted Duck.

And also very important, there is no reason it couldn't (or is unlikely) like so many other proposed aircraft.

1. Harrier has been mentioned by Razbam and VEAO (different versions - not so likely that LNS is also developing one).

2. Su-24/A-6 - multi-crew and Jester AI is coming with the F-14 (yes, small chance that it will precede the F-14).

3. F-4 - no ground Radar

4. Etc, etc...

The Viggen actually fits all the hints and there is no specific reason why it couldn't be it.

Not certain, but a compelling case.

I'd hope it's the ground-attack Viggen, honestly.

There's quite a lot of options to choose from.

As far as I know, there's quite a lot of different Viggen versions (Interceptor, ground attack, anti-ship, recon and EW versions). Out of these, there are several "block versions" of each as well. For example the initial interceptor version was armed with aim-4's and early aim-9's, while the Skyflash was integrated in the 80's, and Amraam capability in the late 90's (and the whole fleet dismantled nearly immediately after).

The weapons loads weren't interchangeable either as far as my quick checkfinding goes, so the interceptor version couldn't carry mavericks or other anti-ship missiles and the ground attackers couldn't use modern aim-9's or skyflash.

Also if the viggen is to have chaff dispensers, it needs to be a mid 90's variant :music_whistling:.

That should answer it

Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

I hope we get several variants! The attack Viggen has very limited air to air capability, and the interceptor Viggen is very limited in the air to ground role.

That would be sweet indeed.

Let the speculations of which Viggen variant it will be commence! ;)

I for one hope we get the 90's Interceptor variant, complete with AMRAAM's. Just to see how they would stack up against the F15C, the upcoming Hornet and the Su27 and Mig29...

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Almost correct...

The EW versions were as far as i know only planned and never implemented due to budget cuts.

The anti-ship and ground attack variant is the same, AJ and AJS 37 Viggen.

And no you're right, Viggen was not a multi-role rather a series of dedicated planes for different purposes on the same basic airframe. The variants that i do know existed in service was:

- JA 37 (Jakt, Attack) of various variants, interceptor with very little ground attack ability.

- AJ 37 (Attack, Jakt) of various variants, ground attacker with very little air-to-air capability.

- AJS 37 & AJSH 37 (Attack, Jakt, Spaning) Pretty much updated AJ 37s and SH 37's with more weaponry and recon capability.

- SH 37 (Spaning, Hav) Maritime recon variant, from what i understand should be identical to an AJ-37 just a different designation due to role but only anti-ship and self defense anti-air missiles were used on them

- SF 37 (Spaning, Foto) Dedicated photo recon variant.

- SK 37 (Skola) Two seater primarily for training.

* Jakt = Interceptor, Attack = Attack, Spaning = Recon, Hav = Ocean, Foto = Photo, SK = Skola (School). Ordered in relevance, so JA means that it is a fighter plane with a primary air-to-air function. and a secondary air-to-ground function.

Edit: Little known fact, the camo liveries are generally for ground attacker since they are meant to fly low and fast and the sky grey is the interceptors.
