NeilWillis Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 How well do the MFG Crosswinds work with your heels on the floor? I've been considering a pedal purchase, but I fly (IRL) with my heels on the floor (like all pilots) and I do not care at all for pedals that require me to put my entire foot on the pedal. SO basically I'm interested in pedals that would work with that requirement in mind. Right now, that isn't an option, but a replacement set of pedals is being developed at present which will mean you can swap out the current pedals for a set that will provide heels on the floor operation. Take a look at the MFG newsletter for details. There is not currently any date for the release of the new pedals, so you may have to be a little patient. I'd also like to point out that not all pilots like to have their heels on the floor, so your assumption that they do is definitely flawed! Don't take your preferences to be universal because they clearly are not as any number of MFG owners would tell you.
NeilWillis Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I've had CH and now I have Saitek combat pedals and the only difference is the width. Other then that I can't tell the difference. I don't think there is a need to pay $250+ for pedals. My CH pedals were $100 and the Saitek were $172. That's because you have never tried anything better. Trust me, you'd soon change your outlook if you had tried a better set. Take it from me, as I have for years used Saitek and CH pedals. There is a HUGE difference in the clunky, low resolution standards they offer and the hi fidelity and smoothness of the MFGs. What you say is like a guy who has only ever driven a Trabant stating that a top of the range Mercedes Benz is no better and certainly not worth the money because they both go from A to B. A little extreme as comparisons go perhaps, but you get the point I think?

I might think that there is no need to pay more 800$ for a bycicle (MTB) as the return past that price point is moot, but there are plenty enthusiasts that will pay several times that for their bike. Same with our pedals, slaw's feel so much different to me after Saitek combat ones. Is that difference to the better? Is it worth several hundred $ over saitek? Different answers possible from different people. In my opinion yes and Yes, every penny. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
AlphaOneSix Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I'd also like to point out that not all pilots like to have their heels on the floor, so your assumption that they do is definitely flawed! I keep taking heat for that comment, I should point out that I'm referring to flying real airplanes. All pilots flying real airplanes fly with their heels on the floor unless they are taxiing and actively using toe brakes. Although I'd welcome evidence to the contrary.
agrasyuk Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) Bf109 is a very real airplane. real pilots that used to really fly it did not do so wit their feet on the floor. I have no problem with your preference (and that's why I went with modern styled system as well) and obviously you will want something closer to the plane you want to fly. But don't dismiss the other style of pedals as unrealistic - it is modeled after real system. Edited May 29, 2015 by agrasyuk Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project

SO basically I'm interested in pedals that would work with that requirement in mind. There are two basic pedal designs, one with your feet on the pedals and one with your heels on the floor. The later is sometimes referred to as the "combat pedals". Milan has planned and is still planning on producing a different "combat" pedal footplates for his MFG set, similar to the shape found in F-16. I presume he didn't yet get around to building them since he has so many orders (even had to hire extra help to cover all the orders). Existing owners of MFG pedals will be able to purchase these and simply unscrew the old ones and screw in the "combat" footplates. New owners will be able to select which ones they want from the get go. Perhaps if I'm lucky I will be able to get an early testing sample and share my impressions with you gents. Yurgon Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 EDIT: Heels on the floor footplates for MFG pedals are visible in the latest newsletter on his website. Huh, I must have missed that. It would be awesome to have these footrests available for those who prefer it. What should be clear from the pictures previously posted (mine, for example ;)) is that exchanging the footrests should take something like 5 minutes. The flexible design of the Crosswinds should really pay off in this regard.

hansangb Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 DAMMIT!!!! After all this talk, I just placed an order for MFG. Looks like ship date will be around August or so. Grrrr :) I'll sell my Saitek Combat Pro when the MFGs show up! hsb hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
NeilWillis Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 You'll probably feel terrible selling the Saitek pedals after you have used the MFG ones. You'll feel like you're cheating the poor guy who buys them!
Lausbub78 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I know this may sound like advertisement, but I gave away my Saitek and my Simped Pedals after I had my MFG Pedals for a while, because there is simply no need for a Backup. I got a set of the first Batch, delivered in August 2013 and they are in heavy use (and abuse) since then and still working like on day one. Slaws Pedals are a work of art too,we Flightsimmer can be happy to have finaly a choice between 2 affordable high end set of pedals. Don't get me wrong, the Saiteks are doing their Job just fine, aswell as the CH Pedals. But you can and will feel the difference between a mass product and a custom design made of quality materials.

LOL. I haven't thought about it that way. But I'll be happy to feel bad about it! I am curious though. Saitek PRO Combat Rudder Pedals aren't too bad. I've had Thrustmaster in the past, and that was OK. So I'm wondering how much better this will be! Can't wait. hsb hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Abburo Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 My MFG reached me after 6 month. They are simply amazing, cannot be compared with anything... well maybe with Slaw as they seems to be on par. But other than this nothing on the market can compare the precision, materials quality and not last the way it allows user to fine tune the ergonomy (this feature is a bit overseen by users but I think is extremely important) Romanian Community for DCS World HW Specs: AMD 7900X, 64GB RAM, RTX 4090, HOTAS Virpil, MFG, CLS-E, custom
PiedDroit Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 How are the MFG or the Slaw doing with time? Are they keeping up well?
NeilWillis Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I can't say how well Slaw are doing, but MFG lead times look to be around 3 months considering Hansangb just ordered his and is expecting them in August. Shipping will take around 7-14 days. Milan of MFG took my order, but did not require payment until he had a firm date for delivery. He was also very good at keeping me updated on progress.

NeilWillis Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Ah sorry, it is very early in the morning here. Build quality is excellent, and they contain hall sensors as opposed to pots, and are constructed from good quality materials. Add to that, the after sales support in parts (if ever required), and I'd say a set of high end pedals will outlast anything from the mass produced end of the market ten fold. The guys at MFG also state that they'll supply replacement parts beyond the 2 year warranty if necessary.
