Good news and bad news. Too bad about the delays, but it is what it is. My uninformed guess for dcs 2.0 is Christmas, but that is just my opinion. Looking forward to the Hornet. Should be a big seller.

PS

Thanks for the update. Always good to see what is cooking in the kitchen.

I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!

I think this is my favorite part:

With the move to DX11, we are continuing to find ways to increase performance. This is even more important with the coming wave of VR gear that demands extremely high framerates.

Keep in mind that the "luxury" of fine-tuning performance will probably be unrealistic once this is in the hands of the masses, as that will likely take a back seat to bug fixes. For that reason alone, I'd like them to take their time and do as much performance tweaking as possible before release.

Lots of good news in this update!

Actually, we can´t assign "humans" companions on the same flight (4 aircraft group) to work on multi-player by the editor. Can be that new feature with that?

If you can assign a human as wingman in 2.0 it would be great!

Would love to fly KA-50 or Su-25T as a wingman.

Thanks for the update.

Can we get an expansion on what "Functional Air Traffic Control" means? Will this mean what we have now or something more?

I think its mostly to do with NTTR, but not 100% sure.

EDIT: Actually its listed under things holding up NTTR so I am 99% sure its related to NTTR, whether there are improvements that will trickle over to the old map I am not sure on.

I respect ED's decision, but I don't like it that they try to pack so many features into the release. I'd prefer that they release it step by step. If they want to make it perfect, it will take an infinite time and we will never see it. Please release an imperfect version, and then keep improving it with patches. That's my opinion.

The Dam shot... Begs for a high speed run through the canyon under the bridge then up over the dam..

That was the first thing I thought when I saw that screenshot... I figure that spot is going to be very busy on multiplayer servers. They might need to put in a tower to de-conflict air traffic.

Some of this stuff is better to build into an unreleased version, adding the items could break the sim bad while they dial it in, or break another new feature that was working fine... I think the core changes will hold up release the most, just have to keep being patient.

just aware, what benefit we can get from the satellite map view?

From what I've been given to understand, the "satalite view" will allow us to place a static object on the map while being able to see it in 3D and manipulate it - move it around and rotate it - to fit into the map as the mission planner wishes. Right now, all you get is an icon for the particular static object you want to place, and must constantly start the mission to try to see where it is in relation to other objects on the map. It's a very cumbersome and clumsy way to build a mission, especially when there are so many beautiful static objects to use!!

Take your time, its hard to wait until the release, but if you think its not ready I just have to dream a little more before actually playing^^.

I dont think its necessary to have the multi-crew support ready for the open Alpha, I wouldnt be bothered if thats gonna get added in a later patch. Other than that I can totally understand the need for the other Items. Over-Wing Vapor YES!

40$ for NTTR I think is a totally reasonable price considering how big and detailed the map looks in the Videos, instant purchase for me!

Updated Mig-29 sounds awesome, and the Hornet is the module that will take my life once its come out :D.

All in all thanks for your hard work at ED!

Nice update! (but please, why those small screenshots)

Your stuff looks awesome, once it´s ready I´ll gladly redeem my A-10C - beta-voucher :D

All the stuff we started to hear about years ago is getting really close now.

And what´s that compared to waiting for Fallout 4 for 7 years anyway?!

Well, on the bright side, due to having mulitple teams at ED working on different things, by the time the engine guys are happy and have a releaseable version of 2.0/EDGE, then the mapping team may have finished NTTR and the aircraft team may have also finished the F-18C.

Would be quite nice to be able to fly the F-18 around in NTTR on day one in glorious new shiny DCS 2.0 :)

Progress pictures are looking very good.

I've been waiting for this feature for many years. Even ArmA lacks it. Jane's USAF had it back in 1999, and it allowed me to easily place objects precisely. Making bases, encampments, or placing a static plane inside of a hanger was extremely easy. Glad to see DCS is adding it.

Again, waaaaay too much blue spil in the shadows area.

All other news - all sounds great. Really don't care about DCS 2.0 that much - take your time guys. Hope you finish sooner L-39 (looks greaaat!!!) and Mig-29...

That's not what I am saying, just the opposite. With them putting so many features into a single release the number of crashes, bugs, etc will grow exponentially. Instead I am saying add a small number of new features, release it, fix the small number of bugs, then release another feature with a new batch, take it step by step.

It is OK to try to adhere to a high standard before releasing something, but if that means a 2 year or so delay (as we have had in this case), then the standards they have set for themselves are unrealistic. Just my 50 cents (not complaining, just expressing my (quite possibly wrong) personal opinion)

I think the magic of DLC may be causing people to look at the situation the wrong way. DCS 2 is a patch, but it's a big patch.

Really, in the days before downloadable updates, you could call this a sequel. How long is the window between sequels, and how much content is added?

Lock On was released in 2003, we didn't get DCS until 2008. You can also look at Falcon, the gap between 3.0 and 4.0 was 7 years and there were obviously a lot of changes made. Fair to say you might not be able to make direct comparisons between these cases, but I don't think DCS2 is all that unusual compared to what we've seen in the past regarding software. Technically a patch, but really an entirely new sim. Granted delays and uncertainty aren't fun, but it doesn't really make sense to compare waiting for a simple patch to waiting for an entire game.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C
