First impressions of 1.5 Beta

Overall it's nice but i'm really worried my 8GB of ram isnt going to cut it, i know that it's technically enough but i already couldnt get on larger multiplayer servers before 1.5 so now it's just a matter of time untill i run into a mission that i just can't run again, especially with nttr :(

I think you will be fine. I'm on a multiplayer server right now in the back seat of the L-39 and DCS currently use 4,3gb according to my task manager. I have 16gb total, but not even half of that is being used even though I have a few extra programs running in the background.

Downloaded overnight and flew it this morning for a short time before work. Max settings looked great and flew silky smooth. My only objection is that, compared to pre-1.5, the color tones are very, very cool. Looking forward to spending more time with it and playing with both the sim and Nvidia settings.

 

Yes, I have the same feeling for it.

But I think it's more about this "fog" we have all around us in 1.5.

If I compare the both engines, the new one has a scary fog over all.

It's like the first days of the old engine... some mods will fix it for sure. ;)

Guys, I think I'm good, at least for now :thumbup: Had to do some config tweaking, plus - and this is important - press Alt-Enter when the mission starts to get into proper full-screen mode. It seems the sim starts at borderless windowed mode now, why is that? I was wondering why my vsync wasn't working anymore and I was getting terrible screen tearing too, but this seems to be why...

 

Anyway, back to running at 30FPS capped and it definitely does it beautifully, no FPS drops anymore - well at least yet :thumbup: Had to do some graphics.lua edits as well, but as stated things are now looking promising to say the least!

 

OK, off to try the L-39 now. Thanks ED, spiffy work indeed :D

This is amazing, I'm running at 3440x1440 with an R9 295x2, I went from 5-15fps to 60+.

 

Even with 6 rocket launchers on an su-25 all firing at once and hitting the ground the fps doesn't drop below 50!!!!!

Try changing to flat shadows for both objects and terrain if you havent already.

When I launch the beta MP just get a black screen. Single player works fine.

 

Thoughts? Cheers.

 

EDIT: nevermind found the fix for now. Log into the single player and select the MP from there.

All out testing has shown 8GB is fine right now.

Thinking of uninstalling 1.2 as well. Very impressed with 1.5, looking forward to trying it out fully this weekend.

Previously, firing the 6 .50s on the Mustang would create a FPS drop from 40ish to high teens if it was a long drawn out burst. Worse with clouds in view, and forget it with the mirror activated.

 

I run ONLY 8GB RAM and a lowly GTX 750 (so low powered, it draws its current from the PCIe bus with no external connectors.) My rig is a low budget deal.

 

Well, with 1.5, I run 50 FPS or higher, and get only a modest drop when the guns light up. Oh, and when they light up, they do it quite visually - there is a beeeauuuuuutiful yellow glow from the guns. Actually, quite amazing detail. I'm going to try it in an early morning mission when possible.

 

The ocean is also quite stunning near shore, where the deep green of shallow waters is now visible.

 

Another note - I am running all settings at maximum. I may tune a little here and there to get even more FPS, but 1.5 it a sea change in the sim world. Guys like me can now fly without "framing out".

 

Thanks ED. I can put off the 970 for a while, now. My lil Core 2 Duo has been given a break and is loving life.

The performance is outstanding in 1.5 :thumbup:

 

The sense of speed / movement has really improved. :pilotfly:

 

Update process from 1.2.16 to 1.5 was flawless. I have since installed a clean install (fresh start) instead of a 1.2.16 to 1.5 update.

 

Trees seem to have a little "pop-up" effect even set on 15000, visibility at ultra.

 

The haze / fog is a little too much for me.

 

The color temperature is on the cool side. Summer at noon, those fields are glowing as if they used fertilizer from Chernobyl. :D

 

 

Eagle Dynamics, Third Party Developers, Staff and Testers, you have done a great job. Take a breather, some good meals, time with family then, come back to fine tune this wonderful update.

I have almost double FPS that before, and huge improvement in mission loading time. I used to wait few minutes to load up the mission, now it's done in some 25-30 seconds (simple missions in 6-7). So what can I say?!

 

I am more than pleased that my patched old dinosaur rig can run DCS for few more years. And all that at HIGH settings.

Hope this hasn't been answered somewhere else and I've missed it - here goes... I have been told the beta installs to a new directory and sits side by side with the original so the modules can be transferred without losing an activation life. If this is correct, once the beta has been installed and modules transferred, can the original installation be deleted?

You can transfere your Modules by using the Modul manager!

 

I dont know if you can delete the Non beta version but the beta copys everything right? If yes you shuold be good.

I'd like to hear from 4k display users.

 

All maxed with only DOF off, I'm getting 80 -100 FPS in IA on A10C (top sortie selection)

That's with Crossfire enabled (LAlt + Enter to ensure full screen) where previously on Single Gpu same sortie I used to get 30-40 FPS

50" Panasonic TV as monitor at 60hz, and looks fantastic.

Only down side is dreadful stuttering that I've yet to cure!!

Holy Jesus, my PC is a piece of old junk: Core 2 Duo E7500, 4GB RAM and AMD HD5450.

 

DCS World 1.2.16 = 8-10 FPS at 720p everything set in low

 

DCS World Open Beta 1.5 = 25-30 FPS at 720p same than above, tested in the same mission an conditions

 

Now I can fly decently! :joystick:

I haven't noticed this haze or fog thing you guys are talking about. What I can see is that IRL almost everyday I fly there is a haze/fog thing going on. I don't mean weather, its just not really clear as you usually see on computer games/sims. So, I kind of like it.

First flight in 1.5 beta today. Took the 109 for as quick sortie, and I have to say I am really impressed. Everything is better, not just graphics and performance, but also immersion. I felt the plane floating a bit on finals, and it just was much more intense than in previous versions. Couldn' t explain it better...

Nice work ED, I am a believer now.

Wow, this is unbelievable. I have now cranked everything to the max, including MSAA ( 16xQ) and AF( 16X), Only thing I have off is the DOF setting.

I am still getting 123 fps and smooth as silk. This is flying around in the KA-50 cold start mission.

 

And it looks so dang gorgeous. It is so nice to have a combat flight sim, that actually utilizes my graphics card's power now.

I played 1.5 once today because I had job to do. What can I say to express my feelings. Performance was the top issue for me and it appears to be so smooth graphics. Looking from my pit and steady up to 60 fps. What else can I ask for.

 

All the other goodies, I mean GUI better interface is an excellent addition.
