New Installer painfully slow

Back when the original DCS clients were released before the updater was a "thing", torrenting the update or new base version actually was most times faster than the update from the ED servers themselves.

If you don't like the idea of "hidden update torrents", you probably should skip Windows 10 and a lot of other MMO type games which use it a lot.

Got Windows 10...Turned OFF torrent updating. Thanks.

I don't usually comment on these matters, I'm pretty patient about the Beta, and appreciate the work that goes into it, but after 2 1/2 hours, I was not even halfway through. I gotta go to bed!, I hit cancel and got prompted to switch to HTTP, so why not,,, within a few minutes I was over halfway, and as I'm tyoing this, its almost done,,,,

Patiently waited for 2 hours 20 mins and now the 'cleaning up....' progress bar is frozen at 10% and says DCS Updater (Not Responding)

The DCS updater running since 2pm afternoon (now 3:16 am here), and stopped at 1172.0 of 1172.5 MBytes. 0.0 Down speed since hours, meantime the upload is 2-400 kb/s. wtf can I do? I would not let ON my PC at night, but if i hit cancel, the whole fcng process will start over?? Who the hell tested this thing before allowed to go live? Seriously?

No, if you hit cancel the updater will save what has already been downloaded and just download the remaining when you next update.

Does ED have dedicated seedboxes for this updater? I think this is the only way this update method could make sense. I doubt that clients would really be able to provide ample bandwidth unless they chose to torrent explicitly.

If you hit cancel you can switch over to HTTP. There is a prompt after the updater disconnects.

I think torrent updates are a great idea, with some caveats.

Here in Australia most ISP's now charge for data in both directions.

IE data both downloaded AND downloaded counts to our quota/limit.

So having things like this happen without warning can cause issues and upset.

If seeded 1:1 a 1Gigabyte update would use 2 gig of a users quota.

I'm happy to an extent to participate in distribution of updates by torrent, but would like full control over up and downstream speeds and number of connections and ability to set a limit overall on up and down data.

One concern however is if several apps did this simultaneously my connection could suffer (esp having 1mbit upstream).

If i could access the torrent directly I'd even be happy to host it in a data center to provide an additional seed (ie similar to a torrent box).

That's my 5cents.
