Someone was saying they weren't viggens but the guided missiles they carry

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

Yea those are RB 04Es.

That is the Ani-Ship missile that the Viggen carried from its service entry untill the 90s (when it was replaced with the RB 15) and it was probably the most important armament of the AJ 37 as its main task was to prevent the enemy invasion fleet from getting to the coast.

(but if they got there then it would assist in trying to crush the bridgehead with Air-Ground weapons etc)

here is a IRL picture of the RB 04E.

rb_04e_small_1.jpg

and i will attach a still form the video below.

The video is probably displaying an attack against hostile ships with a number of Viggens having launched their Anti-ship missiles and you see the Missiles during their sea skimming faze as they approach the target at around 10m above the waves.

I recall reading an earlier post by LN, stating they had learned some things from developing the MiG-21, regarding graphical/cpu performance. Does anyone know where/what they wrote? I still have performance issues in the cockpit of the MiG-21, even with a 1070... I'm hoping the Viggen is a little bit kinder to the system ;)

Yeah that's it Matt lol my video still capture skills are not at the level you're at. Just makes me moister than an oyster watching that video over and over. LNS has literally put the bar out of anyone's reach.

This is pure speculation, but the weather and the sea based theatre we have here suggests a new theatre: Scandinavia maybe?

LNS have confirmed that they intend to make a small theatre for the Viggen. Some part of Scandinavia would be the best guess (most likely Gotland, and God willing, some part of the coast)

However, Cobra has also stated that the theatre will come further away in the future and that the initial Viggen content will be in the Caucasus.

BTW, I managed to freeze the video just as the closest missile flew past and it sure is an RB04.

Does the Viggen have a clock? I've been looking at pictures of the cockpit but I can't find any.

What an oddly specific question :P

Yes, I believe it's a bit to the right of the base of the HUD.

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

Hey, it's good to know the time. :P

Thanks for the answer. The cockpit I looked at had it's clock taken out.

I know almost nothing about this plane . Is it a multirole fighter ?

what can she do?

active radar aa missiles , lgb , jdam , anti radiation missiles , air refueling

Should we get it ? Can we compare this with F18 or F14

Limited multi-role i believe?

yes, no, no, maybe?, no.

yes, no probably more comparable to the F-4

Cheers

EDIT: just found this, I know it's for X-plane but some of the load-out variations could be useful?

Nope.

You can use the camera on AGM-65 Mavericks (Rb 75) from an in-cockpit seeker monitor, but that's it.

Monitor device is described and seen here:

Thanks for the answer. The cockpit I looked at had it's clock taken out.

People tend to steal the clocks out of combat aircraft to keep as souvenirs.

Nope.

What we're looking at here is originally an early 70's maritime strike aircraft with limited multirole capability, designed for short field operations (it is equipped with a thrust reverser) and high speeds at very low altitude. The original armament was a radar-guided anti-ship missiles (rb 04E), Mavericks (rb 75), pilot-controlled missiles similar to the AGM-12 Bullpup (rb 05A), unguided rockets, unguided bombs, autocannon pods and Sidewinders (rb 24). It can also carry flare/chaff and ECM jamming pods.

The version we're getting though was updated with two new weapons in the early 90's, namely the newer anti-ship missile rb 15F and the bk 90 standoff submunitions dispenser (basically a guided glide bomb that covers a large area in cluster submunitions). This version never got any radar guided air-to-air missiles, though.

It has pretty good thrust to weight ratio, easily does Mach 1.1 at sea level (it is in fact quite easy to accidentally overspeed a clean aircraft in level flight at sea level) and can reach Mach 2 at high altitude, but if you're ever above 50 meters AGL for any extended period of time you're probably doing something wrong. It is however fairly "short legged" and is not capable of in-flight refueling.

For a more extensive summary see RahXa's excellent thread.

I could see using the mav seeker head like the a10 pilots did in desert storm. Also good for striking ships at night. Do we have a confirmed loadout table made up yet?

Anti ship and standoff would be interesting. Also ground radar. Let's wait and see what will be shown at twitch session

Well they have confirmed that all the standard weapons for the AJS 37 will be there including the RBS 15 and BK 90.

So the Bombs ,Rocket/Gun pods are a given as are the RB 05 and the Mavericks.

They have also stated that ontop of the normal RB 75s (that are based on the AGM-65A and existed in two variants one with the Normal warhead called RB 75 and one with a heavy warhead like some later AGM-65s called RB 65T) they are also gonna add the AGM-65B for the Viggen.

Since first it should be compatible (since an aircraft that can launch the A should be able to launch the B) it just was never adopted by Sweden (atleast as far as we know) but could have been used by theoretical export customers.

But more importantly it will be added since due to Game limitations the AGM-65A with its Zoomed out seeker picture might be harder to use ingame then it would have been in real life (as the Resolution is limited and the display area for the seeker display is quite limited) so they decided to add the AGM-65B that has a seeker (using the same technology as the A) that is more "zoomed" in thus it will make it easier to spot things through the display ingame.

Aim-9s should also be a given both a rear aspect variant and a All aspect (RB 24J/Aim-9P/J and RB 74/Aim-9L) and its possible that we can also expect an older Aim-9B (RB 24) to represent earlier scenarios as it was the Air-Air missile carried by the Viggen when it first entered service.

its not as easy as that...

go here:

You get the Idea after a few pages.

Question from me would be if the swedish aim9j got seeker upgrades at some point to make it all aspect.

Also if technically you could carry AIM9L on the outboard stations. AFAIK the interfaces are the same and

I have even seen some pictures with it beeing on the outboard pylons. But as allways that doesnt mean

it has been cleared to do that or ever did it.

But since the charts do not include BK90s as well, I was wondering. :)
