SilentGun Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Has anyone from leatherneck actually officially announced this module being a thing? -SilentGun Link to my Imgur screenshots and motto http://imgur.com/a/Gt7dF One day in DCS... GeorgeLKMT Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) Has anyone from leatherneck actually officially announced this module being a thing? They officialy waited for so long to announce it, that steamdb did it for them :D Talk about ruined surprise... https://steamdb.info/app/223750/dlc/ SteamDB Unknown App 411930 (DCS: AJS-37 Viggen) Edited December 10, 2015 by GeorgeLKMT ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
SilentGun Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 DCS: AJS-37 Viggen Discussion XD wow that's amazing :D -SilentGun Link to my Imgur screenshots and motto http://imgur.com/a/Gt7dF One day in DCS... RaXha Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Yes, so are the many SAAB cars were ignition-key is on the center console, instead of the dash. SAAB always had to do something different/innovative;) Haha, you are right about that!
Zibell Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 The thing about a DCS Viggen, especially the AJS, is that it seems to be a capable strike fighter even in modern scenarios. So if it comes with a map, it's my obvious choice for next buy. [sIGPIC]hi[/sIGPIC]
Bejtur Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 As I have understood, Leatherneck won't be putting out the Viggen, but instead the F14, am I correct?
mattebubben Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 ehh what? They are making both. and the viggen will be out before the F-14 is.
Bejtur Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 ehh what? They are making both. and the viggen will be out before the F-14 is. Oh wow, fantastic! (As I am really looking forward to Viggen!) But how come I am not able to read a word about it on their webpage? Or am I just blind? :)
mattebubben Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 they have not made their official announcement yet. It was leaked Through steamDB and they have more or less confirmed that the leak is correct. (That a AJS-37 and a F4U corsair are in the works) They still want to wait to make their own official announcements with all the info and pictures etc. and that should not be that far away.

Luzifer Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Alright so apparently this is how it works: I can imagine that might be quite tricky to reproduce in DCS, but LNS will get it right for sure. Optics wise, it looks no different from reflex sights and HUDs. We already have plenty of those in DCS.
BravoYankee4 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Optics wise, it looks no different from reflex sights and HUDs. We already have plenty of those in DCS. The optical illusion will be hard to mimic... But let's wait and see how LNS will approach this one.
Skjold Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 If the Viggen comes, and If they will make an effort in reproducing the optikal illusion will surely be an small window u open and close, its just totally impossible to reproduce it in any other way, since u dont have any optics in ure monitor?? Not really, you could make a "floating" TV screen in that area that you can turn off and on with a button. Thats basicly what RL pilots would see.
WinterH Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I imagine it would most probably be like how we see optical sights in FPS games. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
Pikey Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Like a snapview? Hmm, but you put your eye to the sights with those, what about just overlaying the image like a HUD with some level of transparency? I imagine it would most probably be like how we see optical sights in FPS games. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
Skjold Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 What im curious about is actually as boring as the dumb bomb arsenal. I know that in RL they basicly exclusivly used 120 kg m/61 fragmentation and flare bombs, but i also could imagine that the Viggen could carry other bombs such as 250 kg m/50 and 500 kg m/56 bombs carried on the A 32A Lansen (predecessor of Viggen). These bombs would have very likely been stockpiled and kept in reserve due to the whole mindset in the SwAF at the time. I am by no means an aircraft expert, as this is more of a hobby then anything else but shouldn't dumb bombs be easily interchangable as the wiring would be the same?

Adding those bombs would have required to add parameters in the targeting computer in order to account for the drag, weight of the new bombs when computing impact point.

Good point that i didn't consider. I wouldn't be suprised if it was made compatible with our existing bomb arsenal however. I wouldn't hold my breath for it but maybe someone who actually has worked on the airplane that knows anything about other bomb types for the Viggen? Swedish Military at the time didn't let alot of things go to waste, hell we even mounted Hispano 20 mm cannons from J 29 Tunnan and J 21 fighters onto an APC/IFV called Pbv 301 in the early 1960s. Edited December 11, 2015 by Skjold
TomCatMucDe Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I hope Leatherneck is willing to give us an official status about where we stand. We have been so far good kids and waited patiently. I understand the secrecy strategy of LNS, but even Apple announces their products a few weeks before they go on sale :D

Those very cannons are still used on the currently in service PATGB 203 (The Swedish Army designation of the Patria Pasi). xD I hope Leatherneck is willing to give us an official status about where we stand. I don't think well get to much info from LNS until he feels well enough to get back to work. :-) Edited December 11, 2015 by RaXha

I don't think well get to much info from LNS until he feels well enough to get back to work. :-) i recommended him to fly his MiG21, it helps against any kind of flue, cold all those nasty seasonal illnesses. I tried it myself. He should have listened to me! kidding :) Hope to see some communication from LNS soon enough.
Tello Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Surströmning and snaps can cure everything ! Back on topic: I was wondering with new theaters and you guys in this thread mentioning Swedish ground forces if the (new) ground forces will be playable like we can with CA on Caucasus map ? Or do we simply add existing CA-modules into the ex. north Scandinavian/new map when creating missions just with a Swedish skin perhaps. Sry if this has already been discussed or mentioned. Have a nice weekend o7 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

This big peace of scrap metal kept me alive in the Bosnian mountains during the war in the nineties  By the way. What I could find is that the PBV 301 had the J21 guns and the PBV 302 had the J-29 guns. Both Hispano-Suiza but different revisions. The gun in the PBV 302 was mounted off center (at the right side of the gunner) so when firing several rounds it was drifting to the right and had to be compensated...

Have a nice weekend o7 Surströmming is for real men! They have said that supporting AI units will come with any plane that "feels out of place" which the Viggen would fall under. However, if they do make ground units they are bound to be CA capable. For example, i think these units are needed to support the module / just for the cool factor. AI JA 37's for the interceptor role. RBS 67 (Hawk) battery. RBS 70 Manpad. Bkan 1A/1C SP artillery. Strv 103 tank or Strv 121 tank. Pbv 302 IFV or Strf 9040 IFV (CV9040) Logistic and Fuel trucks. Picture from my own collection of a Strv 103. Such a unique tank.
