No offense but the flight sim genre is dead because people aren't willing to pay € 54,84 ($60) for 1 freaking airplane whether or not the dev costs justify it (I HIGHLY doubt it costs the same to make 1 airplane versus an entire triple A game with thousands of employees). I can go on Steam right now and get plenty of 100~400 hour long games for 1/2 the price and now even 1/4 of that with the Steam winter sale. As of right now, it's € 449,54 ($491.80) to get a dozen aircraft for DCS World on the Steam sale. I'd be € 685,55 ($750)+ price normally. I'm not being a hater. I have over € 1 096,88 ($1,200) in flight sim equipment (Playseat Air Force, Logitch G940, Buttkicker wireless, TrackIR5) but the 70% sales were the ONLY reason why I was buying DCS Modules. Now i'm not so sure...

I'm using DCS from end of October. I haven't bought anything yet. Wait for Christmas sale was long and on the end it looks i wont buy my first module. Reality is that I don't buy games and i was willing to put up to 20$ on the table for 1st module. 35 USD is out of my reach.

Ok, now I don't want to name some other games here but if you look at some MMOs you usually have to pay monthly(yearly or whatever) subscription to make it playable at higher level battles or buy a vehicle for $50 which is not nearly as detailed made as in DCS.

The current $50 dollar/module prices are to expensive for most Europeans, the $ has risen by 25% since 1.5 years, for East Europeans it's even more expensive, then we have the rest of the world that is even poorer.

There is competition from FSX, X-plane, BoS & other games. The average DCS W user has at least 1 or more flightsim's to chose from.

I've bought some modules that I never use & would never have bought, if it wasn't for the 60-70% sales.

Many countries in Eastern Europe, former CIS, are not paying those prices.

Currency exchanges are a major issue when buying these modules. No question.

CDN rates are hideous right now.

Well I made the same point. In my country 20 usd is not a small amount. Even my joystick was expensive for me and we are talking about entery level T16000m. So even with huge discount i could buy a module or two annualy. Middle class americans are different story as they can always pay 50usd.

I was hoping that there would be some 70% discounts during Christmas but it seems that there won't be any... Well as a teenager who lives in a country where the economic situation gets worse and worse every day, I won't be buying any module unless they bring those discounts back. Lots of you are satisfied as the developers will get more money for what they're doing. However, people like me who earn a very low salary (my family earns like 800€ per month) and have to fulfill more important needs, we will not have the ability to keep up with (if not the latest), some cool stuff on DCS. I really wish that me and many others could support the developers but we just can't. So even if old modules (like fc3, Huey, black shark, etc) won't get at least a 50% off discount, then I will have to stay with my A-10C for a very long time.

One single module price is not so expensive if we take in consideration the work level needed to be built and the target audience. These modules are not SciFi things which can be done by devs feelings... these modules required elaborated documentation, testing with real pilots and so on.

On the other hand, real pilots are not supposed to know to operate more the 5 planes... actually here is exagerated ... I think 3 is a more real number.

So, what I was trying to say is that is more satisfying to be proficient with several modules only, rather than own all of them and not being able to operate them with good results.

I was thinking the same actually! Supporting these guys I mean... But again the prices should match the module. Trainers cost more than some fighters?! That's just too much. I ain't planning on getting any of those trainer planes but if the price was acceptable (at least 50% sale) then I or/and maybe others might do as well. Don't forget the computer you invest in plus HOTAS etc. to get a grasp on some realism. Not many players can afford that. I could, but at some point it's just too much money...

I wouldn't mind if they bring back 70% discount just for first module for new users. :)

New users already get 2 planes for free... ;)

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

yeah exactly, for this reason esp with my limited time im pretty much done buying DCS planes for a looooooong time, last thing i bought was the hawk during their 70% sale couple months ago (along with some for friends). my project im beginning soon is mig-21 and EFM hawk, and sicking to mig-15 and the russian FC3 planes.

much more rewarding to me work to become a master and proficient on a plane. i even have made audio mp3s of mig21 youtube tutorials to listen to while commuting lol as review

i do think they need to make a dedicated fighter/interceptor as a free plane too to get more people into DCS, somebody had the idea of Mig29A as a free to play plane

I seriously doubt that's in the budget.

But you dont get Dora-9 with guns to play in multiplayer. You get one training fighter. I dont count those big planes with zillion of radars and rockets.

Then you grow up nobody told you to pay for other's work ?

I really get to the point to hate this behaviour of wanting everything for free. You have to pay for your toys yourself. Mommy and Daddy won't do this anymore...
