Stratos Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Now that Nevada is already released in Alpha form, I will like to know a bit more about Hormuz strait theatre, hope ED feels the same and agrees to release some more official info about things like: - Final area covered - Airfields included - Will we see a Saudi airfield? - Will ED add new countries like Oman, UAE and other Gulf countries like Qatar and Bahrain? - Will we hear those new countries speaking arab and farsi? - Any new ground unit planned? AMX-30, ROLAND SAM... - BST updated the F-5E 3d model. Will we see an updated 3d model for the F4E Phantom too? Is a basic fighter for IRIAF, and we will see tons of them on Hormuz missions. Thanks a lot!! Edited January 12, 2016 by Stratos Added a new question, speech packs. I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
Dun_Aenghus Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Some information about this would be great, especially about the airfields and countries included. There should be a lot of flexibility there with players potentially able to fly IRIAF MIG29s, SU25s, F5s, Saudi F15Cs, UAE Mirage 2000s and so on. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

jcbak Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Hopefully it won't be under-used like the NTTR map due to its small size. There are only a handful of MP servers using NTTR as opposed to the BS map. It might be better to hold off its release until it can be developed and expanded to rival the BS map in scope. There are only a handful of MP servers using NTTR as opposed to the BS map. It might be better to hold off its release until it can be developed and expanded to rival the BS map in scope. Well, for me the problem with NTTR is (apart from not beeing available for the beta/stable branch) is that it is a training area and I'm not interested in training stuff. I want real combat scenarios and that is why I will make extensive use of SOH and leave NTTR aside. I think I'm not the only one with that mindset. Blooze Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Considering the recent tensions between the Saudis and neighboring countries and the vital importance of the Strait for the transportation of oil it could very well be the most significant piece of geography in the near future. Looking at the map and numerous airfields it would be well within the scope of realism to see conflicts taking place in this relatively small area especially if carrier ops are available. I remain optimistic about this map. I just hope it comes during my lifetime. I ain't gettin' any younger here:( [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

jcbak Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I think that the BS map will still be the best setup for Blue vs Red A2A.....unfortunately. Stratos Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 The area is interesting, for the political situation we're seeing there, also we have flyable many of the planes used in the area, as for example Iran with the Su25 and the MiG29, the Mirage 2000 for UAE, and for the future, different versions but close enough for the F5 and the Mirage F.1. But If they made it as small as announced (and as appearing in the pic) it will left out S.Arabia and will let us have only one airfield in Oman, an airfield that will be really close to Iran. Thats why I ask about more info, final area, new countries added... Will be kind from ED to answer that, and will keep us busy for a while. I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
jcbak Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I don't mean this as a criticism. It's a question. A small company like Laminar (X-Plane) is able to model most of the world. DCS has very limited maps that take years to develop. In a nutshell....so an imbecile like myself could understand.....what is the difference in designing that causes such a limit? Granted, most airports in XPlane require designs submitted by outside sources, including users. I'm really just curious. Mad Dog 7.62 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 It wasn't so much the map itself that took so long on Nevada, as the new terrain engine they decided to develop halfway through working on the map. Hopefully with that done, new maps will come a bit quicker, but we will see. Blooze Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 The SoH map was introduced over a year ago so I am hoping that someone on the ED team has been working towards expanding it since then and the final release will be much larger than the original plan. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Gloom Demon Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Current computer hardware limitations? Common video card memory sizes? Median RAM on an average computer? I'd say, as much as we all love DCSW, we, probably, still want it to run on a mainstream computer... or face very lonely flights ;-) That makes sense but then why build the SOH map so small? ED Team NineLine Posted January 12, 2016 ED Team Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) True, but there are other flight sims that encompass entire continents that can run on mainstream computers...... None of which are as detailed as DCS World in map detail/FM complexity/combat capabilities. Please keep the discussion on DCS though, this forum is for DCS World only, other sims are irrelevant. There is no new news on SoH, soon as there is some new info, they will let us know. They have always said, map sizes could increase as things move forward.
