Interesting CHSubZero, I wanted to experiment with that but I got side tracked by other projects.

I am very interested in your findings :)

it depends on wether they used default or chrome shader material in the ED Texture tool inside 3DS Max.

For Specular, you edit in Channels. RGB

Red, flare width/intensity

Green, Inverse of Red.

Blue, Reflection Strength

White = 100%, Black = 0%

So:

Anything you want matte will be dark/black in the red channel.

Anything you want pllished should be brighter, whitish

Then tweak values for red and green inverse to get a decent flare intensity as the sun pans across the surface.

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
