NTTR real landmarks

Dear ED, for some helicopter fun, can you add some official buildings with signs. Like Police stations, Fire departments and Hospitals. (with helipads would be more awesome)

 

i made a quick search about them, and there should be a medical center and police station in the marked areas in the attached picture.

FWIW, they stated they'll be adding to the NTTR terrain (at least 1 airfield confirmed).

 

They also were asking about casino blueprints, though pulled the request for obvious reasons.

 

Hopefully a few more details like your suggestion show up, like Valley Hospital and its landing pad.

The focus is and has been NTTR. It was explicitly stated that making the city true to life with landmarks and whatnot is out of scope. If you find *grave* errors, i'm sure the'll have a look, but minor landmarks probably don't even scratch the bottom of their todo list.

In Boulder City, the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery is replaced with an office park. The roads are there, but the lawns and buildings of the memorial are substituted with some large office buildings.

 

I would love to see it accurately represented. My dad and my best friend's dad are both buried there.

I completely agree that having some Actual Location Hospitals etc would be a huge improvement that will add to the realism and multitude of mission types we can create.

 

I was looking the other day for hospitals in Las Vegas.

I used Google Earth to locate all of the hospitals there. NONE of them are shown in NTTR.

In fact, at least one of them doesn't even have the correct terrain map/aerial imagery. By that I mean, I thought actual satellite and/or other Mapping Imagery was used to produce NTTR and places like Las Vegas. But NOPE.

One of the actual hospitals has a Helipad ... but it does not exist in NTTR.

 

Anyway, I would really like to see at least a few of these types of structures/locations included in NTTR.

Actually, I don't even really care if Actual Hospitals and Cop Shops etc are located in real-life locations. But it would be nice if some were included ANYWHERE that are clearly marked and hopefully include Helipads/Rooftop Helipads etc.

I know there will be issues with copyright infringement and such but it will be nice if someone can mod in actual casino and establishment names. Because OMG Brand, TROMB tower; seriously? XD

I actually don't understand how it can be a copyright infringement.

It isn't an infringement to have Photos, nor did Google Earth have any issues (that I'm aware of). ALL of the casinos were 3D Modeled by people such as myself without any issue.

All of those 3D Models remain in place in Google Earth.

The map uses a hybrid of satellite images and hand created textures. Basically most of the city exists as a series of preset "blocks" that have assorted 3d objects placed in logical positions. It is why you may notice certain patterns of buildings existing near each other. Each block has textures painted on that correspond with whatever is there, neighborhoods, parking lots, etc. Roads tend to act as a "cookie cutter" defining the shape and what objects appear. As a result there are a few places on the map where you can see the texture of where a building would normally be, but a road would intersect with it so the building is removed. While I wouldn't be shocked if ED had some system to automatically create the blocks and cut out objects, I do think they at least manually replace some blocks depending on what is there in reality. I think a noticeable instance of this is the city near Creech AFB, there is a high school in reality but in game they chose to use a block with larger objects.

 

I do agree with the general point of the thread. I think it would be quite useful even if we just got hospitals, police stations, and other relevant buildings as static objects and 'farps' that you can place in the editor.

It all boils down to using someone else's trademarks in a commercial product without proper licensing/permission. Exactly the same thing happened when CS went from being a free Half-Life mod to a commercial product ages ago.

 

Expecting casinos to come up with reasonable licensing terms for such use is, at best, a little naive. After all, taking money from people is their modus operandi.

Helipads are ok if I can destroy them down to a low pixel count wreck. :D

That's really all I care about. "Versatility" is the key word.

I think that is more important than "reality" because it gives us the ability to be as real or as fictitious with mission creation as we want.

Doesn't seem like FlyTampa with the recent KLAS scenery for FSX and P3D have any issues using the real casino names.
