3DArtistExtreme Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 That's an outstanding news, best luck to the team! Any chance Oleg is also is the same Oleg who was sharing pictures of his Tu-95 a few years ago on the Bohemia Interactive forums ? Yup that`s me. But the aircraft is in hands of my mates at RHS studio. I saw some wip of integration into oxygen(game-engine). But it was very early development and it`s quite complicated to intergrate such a plane due to engine limitations and this plane is on the limit, but RHS is doing their best in to implement it as soon as they can. 1 -=3DArtistExtreme=- 3D Scanning / Modeling / UV mapping / Lighting / Shading / Texturing 3D Portfolio http://www.oleg-kovalev.com

Meiz Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Wow, quite an ambitious project, i wish you guys the best of luck as i would love to see this become a reality :pilotfly:.
Mt5_Roie Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Looks great....will you guys be going the DCS 3rd Party route? Oh and Oculus already has plenty of my money....and will keep getting it. DCS and Oculus Rift is an amazing combinations. I actually haven't even looked at the other things on the Oculus home site yet. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester

Darkbrotherhood7 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 That project is so ambitious! ... and definitely can`t be done with a team of two :) So, guys, I have some skills: Ilyushin-86 for Nightwatch movie (2003): My free time project - Sukhoi-34 Fullback (2005- till now. I`m, freaking lazy): Vimeo video link Another free time project - Bleriot XI (Done!): So, let me know, if I can help you with something ;) Wow!!! Very nice projects! SilentEagle Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Multi-crew is possible now for any aircraft mod, but data cannot be synced, so all animations and systems data is going to be wrong for the crew member not in control. You can figure out how to do it by just examining the L-39 luas. You also have to add a key command to change seats. The way it works is that the dlls are just executed on every crew member's computer. However, if you are not in control, commands are not being seen and the state of the aircraft will not properly reflect those commands. The flight model, however, does seem to have some kind of automatic syncing happening, as the aircraft position is always correct, even though stick, throttle, gear, flap, brakes, etc. inputs are not being seen on the crew members who are not in control. Sryan Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Is Tu-22M worth it: what do you think? Brian Totally! You'll be appealing to a whole new market. Me and possibly others have a binge for steering big birds. With the Tu-22M3 I can finally scrap other flight sims from my SSD and stop steering those dumb airliners :) There's some curiosities that the Backfire checks that would be appealing to many simmers. An example of that would be the variable sweep wing, provided you finish the Backfire before the F-14 gets completed by Leatherneck Simulations. They still have an AJS-37 Viggen and F4U corsair to complete before they will move on to the tomcat. DCS is currently moving towards naval aviation. F/A18, F-14, A-6, AV8B USMC Harier. Updated Su-33 Flanker-D, Nimitz and admiral Kuznetsov are all proof of that. A playable Maritime strike aircraft Tu-22M3 would fit into that market. Provided you are also willing to develop the Tu-22M3 weapons, you can have several unique roles for this strategic bomber. It would be the only platform capable of launching Anti-ship missiles if you are willing to create a Kh-22. The only plane capable right now is the MiG-21. It can shoot a Kh-66 Grom that does not at all compete with the Kh-22. The F/A-18 will probably be able to shoot the AGM-84 HARPOON but the Hornet serves the western forces. The Backfire can offer Warsaw pact/ eastern forces resistance to this capability. If you are willing to develop the Kh-15 you will provide the only platform that can launch cruise missiles. I forsee that it will be challenging to develop the MKU6-1 rotating launcher for this system though. If you develop Kh-15P as well, you will provide a SEAD platform. An alternative to the Su-25T (The only SEAD platform in the entire existence of DCS: world for so many years...) and rivaling the capabality of the Hornet and their AGM-88. A lot of simmers are attracted by special capabilities that a new plane can offer and the backfire offers quite a few! I think the Tu-22M3 (Together with the B-1B but don't worry, I have read your explanation and think the Backfire is a perfect start) is the perfect big bird for DCS as they are still survivable in the high threat enviroment due to high speeds and electronic equipment. For the very first reason alone in this post, but especially if you would implement the unique weapons, the rear facing turret and aerial refueling capability I'd personally be willing to spend over €100 on the module. It's a difficult choice for a first aircraft as a developer. It won't just be your first aircraft. You will introduce many new elements to the sim. However you've already proven you completely know what you're doing. I just hope we don't have to ever see your name on the developer graveyard (bottom of that post). They also chose cool aircraft to begin with ( F22, F/A18E). But you perfectly explained that the analogue design of the Backfire is a good place to start, and not have digital complications as my two examples have. So I have faith! Good luck, Brian! Bryan. adonai Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Long-time forum lurker, and long-time dcs flyer as well. I've literally made the jump to register on ED just to reply to your message, with a resounding HELL YES!! The tu-22m is absolutely worth it and gives both a. topical aircraft to the overall timeframe existing dcs aircraft are born and b. provides a focused mission and interesting counter to the existing a10c. We fly dcs mainly because in actuality, we do enjoy stick and rudder time with accurate fd's so with that being said, analog instrumentation and systems are par for the course for us and considering the mig-21/15, f86, and various ww2 fighters success probably preferred. I think I can speak for alot of us that a fleshed out fast attack tu22 would be an instabuy for us; please continue your work and the community as a whole would greatly appreciate it!!! Just my two-cents, thanks :)

ФрогФут Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Simulink takes those diagrams and converts them to C-code, and can them compile them into the dll(s) that DCS will use. I can test my logic at a very high level, within simulink, I will do a validation check of the added system in DCS, and it gets checked again when alpha and beta (since there are four positions, maybe we have alpha, beta, gamma and delta testers?) testers get their hands on it. I can even program HUDS (there isn't one in this case) and displays within Simulink/Matlab, and trade args with the airframe and cockpit in this environment. It's far faster and easier in this way. Eventually, there is C++ and lua programming required to tie everything together, but high level stuff is done in Simulink. I'm not sure I can give a quick explanation here of how I am going to do the flight and engine models. Maybe later. I will be using some modern tools for both that should let me create accurate models quickly, that can then be validated by open source information I have on both. The Tu-22M3 has one or two aerodynamic bugaboos, a nasty stall with the wings swept, plus the wings flex as much as eight degrees at high sweep, high load factor and high angle of attack. That cannot be ignored aerodynamically, but all of these issues have been faced and solved by others before me. To summarize the things that make this simulation tractable: - I chose an aircraft with significantly less complexity than it's brethren. - Design Document - Delegation - Graphical programming environment (Simulink/Matlab) - Modern software tools for speedy flight and engine modeling In the midst of all this, I personally have two unknowns. At present I'm not sure how to impliment multi-crewing. I know it's been done for two; I assume there is some way to do four. If any of you have solid thoughts on solving that particular item, I'm all ears. I'm also not going to take the time to model the radar reflectivity of the terrain for the radars, so I hope to lean on ED's experience for that, but we'll see what happens. I hope this was informative, and not preachy. Brian I may say, that yes, Simulink generated code works with normal performance in DCS (at least flight dynamics). Skjold Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Is Tu-22M worth it: what do you think? Brian Tu-22M3 is beyond worth it due to a number of factors. 1. There is a distinct lack in WP/USSR planes being made as of late. 2. It is the first bomber ever in DCS. 3. It is the first cruise missile carrier. 4. It is the first WP/USSR anti-ship missile carrier. 5. It can also do SEAD strikes. 6. It is a very cool multi-crew plane. 1
