I love that thing - It's like a James Bond gadget

(or something Danger Mouse would fly)

I can't decide which is cooler. That, or this, which looks like it would fit in a standard supermarket car park as long as nobody tried to put their roof up or down :

(I don't think I'd want to try flying either :-)

I can absolutely picture Sean Connery in that thing, bright yellow and all.

Note: It's definitely a Connery, as Bond, era gadget.

My Grandfather said he watched some of these takeoff and land at moffett field (I think) when he was a kid.

Most probably an EC-135, or maybe a Huey, but definitely a Whirly Bird, because these are just so fun to fly.

Besides, they have lots of practical applications, like carrying people and luggage from A to B without having to worry about traffic jams. They can land and take off virtually everywhere. And they can still make a compelling and loud argument in every neighborhood-feud. :D

I first read that as KC-135 and was like "that sounds boring" :megalol:

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

I'd say it's permissible, but I can drive 30 minutes rent one of those now - as can many (most?) people.

But I can't. I'm from Egypt and live there. No rentals.

That sucks. That would mean that as a private General Aviation pilot you'd have to move from getting your license straight into plane ownership (or fractional ownership).

I've done some "back of the envelope" calculations and the break-even point for rental vs. ownership was around 100 hours of flight time a year - which is a lot.

Of course ownership cooperative would spread those annual fixed costs out over as many partners as were in the co-op - so a large co-op might push that threshold down.
