ebabil Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 How do you like night flights? Be honest i can't enjoy night time in dcs. I only choose night when i want to have night vision google fun. Execpt this, i can't see almost anything. Lightnings need some tweak may be. DieHard Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Ka-50 at night with NVG (night vision goggles) is fine. Other aircraft should have access to NVG also. It's just a game. Can nit-pick about sim authenticity, but real life navigation at the airports don't exist, not fully functioning. Some real-life pilot guys were just talking about this. The realism is relative. Seems I remember seeing news clips photos Huey pilots during 'Nam wearing NVGs. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Haukka81 Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Nvg's were rare even in desert storm, A-10's used ir maverik screen to find targets. F-15Es used flir pod and image was show'n in hud. Its game but where we drawn line so it stays also simulation ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

CrashO Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I only use it for instrument navigation and landing practice. And the occasional PvP fight. For ground attacks, not so much. Maybe when DCS get's support for ground radar. Although I mainly fly the Mirage, which has good navigation systems and a virtual runway for easy bad visibility landings. Makes it a lot more fun then trying to land a FW-190 Dora at night in a storm.. [ame] [/ame]
uhntissbaby111 Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I don't think people realize how dark it gets at night, depending on moon. If there's no moon out, it's pitch black. The only way to see the horizon is try and see where the stars stop. If you don't have any source of light, you can't even see your hand in front of you. Now of course if there's a moon, things change. With a full moon you can see fairly well at night. The worst sim platform for night is FSX/P3D. Even with no moon you can see as if it's daylight. XP10 does a good job, except I think it's a bit too dark when the moon is out. And I'm away from my computer while I'm overseas, but from what I recall, DCS does a good job with night

Bond 42 Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 DCS does a great job with night. Ground objects like runway lights at a distance do need some work. Agreed, looks pretty close to real-life.. Wish there were some night flying mp servers. Would be fun!

Haukka81 said NVGs were rare, not that they didn't exist. To work with NVGs cockpits need to be designed for that very purpose which usally is not the case for most cold war aircraft. Exorcet Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 My problem with DCS nights is that it never seems dark enough. I can actually see things, which shouldn't be unless I'm over a big city. I hope they make it darker. BaD CrC Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 NVG is equipping all the choppers in DCS and night flying is brilliant. We are running a full night campaign at BSD these days with Gazelles and Hueys and the experience is awesome. Even more now we have IR vision with the viviane sight of the gazelle. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden

Flamin_Squirrel Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Other aircraft should be so easy to spot when they have their landing lights on, even when they're miles away, but they're not. On the other hand, they seem to be overpowered when lighting up the ground.
MasterZelgadis Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I really like night missions, because it is a greater challenge. Or to be more precise the transition from day to night, start in the evening, and during the mission it gets really dark. Unfortunately my mates rather fly daylight missions... Leutnant_Artur Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 What makes me mad is that ground at night is too bright. It should be dark like in real not like in game for 12 year old kid ;/ [sIGPIC]Luftgangsta[/sIGPIC]
Flamin_Squirrel Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 What makes me mad is that ground at night is too bright. It should be dark like in real not like in game for 12 year old kid ;/ Last week I'd have said it was fine. But that was when I was using a monitor with a window right behind it. Lots of glare meant that night seemed very dark. Now I have an Oculus, I can fly around at night following terrain no problem. Are gamma/brightness options required perhaps?
