Is there nothing that can be done to mix the event up a bit more?

Round after round of attacking the same airbases, defending the same airbases, shooting the same ground targets placed in the exact same spot. It gets a bit stale if you can get what I mean.

Aparently you don't do much mission building, and all the effort that goes along with it. There are other servers available for dcs, if you're bored...

Okay, there wasn't really any need to come across so condscending. All of the popular servers in DCS are the same shit anyway, It's either airquake or some airquake with a few tanks to bomb.

Gotta show for the testing round. That's where they added the comm arrays which weren't on the map, so it was a nice surprise running into them for the first time. I found one, but only saw the EWR, and thought "oh look Bluefor dropped an EWR". Only after I destroyed it, and the team kill message came up did I realize new assets had been added.

For a very brief stint we had moving convoys with very light AA which could be commanded by CA. They were removed rather quickly though and I can only guess because one of our Redfor guys wiped out two Bluefor bases with a single BMP. The OP cries could be heard through the night.

The fuel system is almost back to round 5 levels, but not quite there yet, so player refueling isn't quite worth it yet. I posted some ideas several pages back now on how to get it relevant, but keep the AI safety net.

We just need to get our CSAR back, and the fun can ensue!

I still think switching sides of the map, where Blue works out of the Red airfields and Red flys out of the Blue ones would be a good twist.

I actually agree, switching sides would be a nice change of perspective at least.

Actually it was lagging like hell :D We will use them with a different way but didn't manage to get them into this round.

All I'm saying is there is considerable man hours that goes into building/scripting missions. They have spent YEARS building this map, for us to enjoy. There is a very fine balance between the amount of targets and scripts to remain playable. I think everyone should keep that in mind when making complaints.

Follow that chopper! It will turn to starboard if its the bottom of the hour and to port if its the top half!

Sent while I should be working instead.

Ryan, some things in here don't react well to bullets. Yeah, like me. I don't react well to bullets.

We're going to kill a friend, Yvgeni. We're going to kill Ramius.

I could do this all day. Love me some sub huntin' quotes. :)

We need greg to put a sub in BF. The F5 can kill it, apparently.

*unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?

I was wondering if it would be possible to extend the time between server restarts. For example to 6 hours, but even 4 hours would be better than what it is now. I find it frustrating that some of the state is wiped out so often.

Was the current 3 hours chosen because of stability issues or there were other considerations? If there were, I would like to understand.

Thanks

Can someone please make a Blue Flag Communication guide for dummies?

At the moment people are using GCI freq on SimpleRadio as a Teamspeak alternative and are announcing their rifles, foxes and other irrelevant s***.

Can someone just explain them how to behave? I mean how hard can this be?

What's wrong with calling your shots? So far in AD AF you call all of your shots over net.

It clogs comms and in most cases causes people to talk over GCI. Call your shots in your inflight comms and keep GCI comms clear as much as possible.

Ever tried communicating with somebody when 4 people are yelling fox fox fox?

Also people need to learn that when GCI is talking they need to shut up as he has talking priority over everybody unless its mission critical.

It is disruptive, and completely unnecessary on the GCI freq in the game. if you must call fox, rifle, gear up, inbound rwy 27, saddled, etc., there are several thousand other frequencies you can choose from and coordinate with your wingmen.

Here's what I'm doing so far in Blue Flag reguarding ATC. I'm illustrating this post using a basic flight roadmap and my own callsign, get your own. Once again that's how I do it, and some people might not want to push as far as I do, furthermore I'm pretty open concerning additional remarks. Keep in mind that we don't have useful informations such as NOTAM/ATIS/METAR/TAF on DCS yet. Also, I highly recommend you guys using callsigns in front of your names, as it helps the GCI to take care of you and your flight package, that's also a time saver on coms.

First of all, you gotta use your charts to locate yourself and identify to important informations. Lets take a look at Sochi which is straight on the BLUFOR bulls.

1470259513-800px-sochi-adler.jpg

As soon as you are ready to taxi and according to the attached chart, go for :

"Sochi Traffic, Charcot 22, 1 x M-2000C, Apron 1, taxiing Mike, Alpha, runway 06."

Since we have only one ATC freq, you gotta point out the airfield you're at, in this case, Sochi. Give your callsign as in every radio transmission. In case you have the lead on a package made of multiple aircrafts you should call the quantity and the type of aircrafts going for taxi (only the flight lead does transmit on the ATC channel). Then, state your intentions and describe your path towards the active runway using the charts, in this case M(ike) and A(lpha).

1470259514-800px-urss-arr-dep-6-24.jpg

At this point, you should know what exit you're gonna use and be aware of potential altitude restrictions. In this case, you have to remain below 2600 AGL. Let's take the North exit as it's the best option to get in your CAP station pushing towards REDFOR side.

"Sochi Traffic, Charcot 22, holding point Alpha, lining up and takeoff runway 06, North departure."

Well you got it, you should be at the holding point Alpha runway 06 at the departure in this case, state your intentions once again and check for any incomming traffic on final BEFORE entering the runway. Once checks done, enter the runway and takeoff remaining runway heading then follow your departure track while watching your altitude. You gotta use your eyes to make your way towards the entry/exit as there are no DME informations on the ingame charts. In this example, it seems that you have to follow to river while remaining below 2600 AGL and then you should be cleared to your desired flight level.

Then depending if you're flying alone or not. You can permanently tune one of your radios on 251.000 (ATC) and the other one on 264.000 (GCI). If you you're flying within a package, you can state as a flight lead :

"Sochi Traffic, Charcot 22, leaving the area, pushing 264.000."

I'm guessing you don't have to state Charcot 22 in the case you're in charge on multiple aircraft, but Charcot 2 for the whole package. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Then contact the GCI (in the case you aren't knowing the GCI callsign, go for) :

"Anyface, Charcot 22."

Doing so is a com request to the GCI. If he's online, he'll most likely reply "Charcot 22, Magic, go ahead." Then, you have to proceed to the check-in which is basically telling the GCI where you are at (who you are, where you are coming from /w number of ships, your position relative to bullseye, flight level and intentions), then you're free to ask him whatever you want (well, maybe not....), vectors to homeplate/alternate/specific group/tanker, picture, bogey dope...

Once you're done, you can alert Magic that you're bingo/winchester/end of playtime and that you're flight package is RTB. That may help the GCI and make him divert other aircrafts towards the CAP zone you've established with your groups to guarantee the best safeness for your strikers on duty.

"Magic, Charcot 22 flight level 300, pancake fuel/ammo, heading home Sochi."

Get back to your charts and identify the most appropriate entry/exit you wanna use, check altitude restrictions. Let's take the West entry arrival for runway 06. Check your frequencies, make sure you have the ATC channel selected so you won't disrupt the GCI frequency by mistake.

"Sochi Traffic, Charcot 22, 1 x M-2000C, EJ75 at 5000, inbound visual, West entry."

I don't know about EJ75, but you get the idea, give your grid to let know other pilots where you're at aswell as your altitude. Then, state the entry you're using. Follow your track then once you are vertical on the initial (marked on the chart) :

"Sochi Traffic, Charcot 22, on the initial, short final runway 06, full stop."

Once wheels down and speed controlled, vacate the runway.

"Sochi Traffic, Charcot 22, runway vacated via Echo."

That way, people will be aware that the runway is free of usage, and your position on the taxiway. After that, you can state your intention to taxi the a specific parking, then once a blocks you can go for:

"Sochi, Charcot 22, on blocks apron 1, leaving the frequency."

Not sure if it's a dumb suggestion as I've only recently started participating, but I feel the addition of waypoints (mostly for fighters) for each PAK area could really help with some organization and commonality for all operations. The waypoint doesn't have to be anywhere specific it could just be placed at the center of each zone box. We have waypoint systems for most aircraft but they are currently unused (besides the A-10C if you want to go through setting a flight plan up).

You can do that when you have a full group of people doing it for a single airfield but when you have 1 guy for all airfields then you need to compromise even more.
