Plagi_Arism Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 PBR (Physical Base Rendering) on progress to DCS: W (no dates) https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2904921&postcount=1616 What is PBR? :dunno: I found these but I mean what will be this in DCSW? Advantages? Some sample screenshots should be good to unfold that feature. http://www.codinglabs.net/article_physically_based_rendering.aspx https://www.google.hu/search?biw=1915&bih=893&tbm=isch&q=Physically+Based+Rendering&spell=1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjC__2q5c3PAhVjDZoKHc_oCn4QBQgZKAA&dpr=1 May the THRUST be with you
Pizzicato Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 The layman's version is that it's a technique that makes materials (e.g. metal, glass, marble) look more realistic by getting them to respond to more accurately to light. This video isn't the best, but it'll give you the general idea: i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
joey45 Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Better textures. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Teschmacher Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) a couple of weeks ago, i have asked Chizh about implementation of PBR in DCS , he replied: 'time will tell' meanwhile, xplane 11 will feature PBR, you can see the different screens and what it does do in this video: PBR does dramatically change the rendering quality of all materials and textures with a significant improved realism as we see them , it is a new and future proof rendering technology and it *MUST* be implemented ASAP in a modern sim like DCS. Once it is done, DCS will look TERRIFIC. Edited October 12, 2016 by Teschmacher My custom made aircraft skins and other content for DCS World! rrohde Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Maybe it'll find its way into DCS when EDGE goes from DX11 to DX12? ;) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com
SkateZilla Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Maybe it'll find its way into DCS when EDGE goes from DX11 to DX12? ;) It's already being implemented per Chizh: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2904921&postcount=1616 Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

joey45 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I very much doubt we'll see it this year... or next. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Teschmacher Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 is PBR really a complex process to implent in a 3d engine? (i have no idea) My custom made aircraft skins and other content for DCS World! joey45 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Could always try enable PBR = "true" depends on the engine, all we know most of it* might have to be rewritten. *texture code The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. SkateZilla Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 is PBR really a complex process to implent in a 3d engine? (i have no idea) PBR would require changes to textures and material assignments and shaders etc. If you remember, Wags also said they are completely changing the lighting and shader system as well for 2.5. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Teschmacher Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 ... If you remember, Wags also said they are completely changing the lighting and shader system as well for 2.5. hopefully that means 'PBR' in v2.5  this is what ive got told from an expert source in the matter: Adding PBR consists of three stages: 1) adding deferred rendering to the engine (can take a while, but I think DCS might already have it. Maybe not, but it's a moderately complex task) 2) adding PBR shaders (somewhat easy if you have deferred rendering) 3) updating textures (can be pretty cheap) and then, probably as 4): Could always try enable PBR = "true" lol ... please someone from ED, comment on this matter and cut a neat line to end speculations and suppositions in this thread, thanks 1 My custom made aircraft skins and other content for DCS World! Raven68 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 PBR would require changes to textures and material assignments and shaders etc. If you remember, Wags also said they are completely changing the lighting and shader system as well for 2.5. Sounds like this is contributing to some of the 2.5 delay we are seeing as well with the upgrade to the Caucasus map. I do love the effort of bringing it in though. please someone from ED, comment on this matter and cut a neat line to end speculations and suppositions in this thread, thanks It would be nice to see what they have to say. Valinor Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 X-Plane 11 gives a nice example of it from the presentation, here are the screens from the presentation itself (so the quality is not good but it should give you an idea anyway) before : http://xplanereviews.com/uploads/monthly_2016_06/575e7e20b4d5f_X-Plane11Reflections.jpg.f5e07d17d973eb06df8ef1aa70b44a8e.jpg after: http://xplanereviews.com/uploads/monthly_2016_06/575e7e23ca06e_X-Plane11Reflections2.jpg.5b68aa18427ea201b6b6237983c4b2ad.jpg ________________________________________________________________________ before: http://xplanereviews.com/uploads/monthly_2016_06/575e7f286434c_X-Plane11Reflections3.jpg.b094d1271b49904c38f2df697bef7cb7.jpg after: http://xplanereviews.com/uploads/monthly_2016_06/575e7f2c10648_X-Plane11Reflections4.jpg.de10aa53cdd380220b8b5119332cd2aa.jpg
