Introducing the VPC MongoosT-50

Will I have to map it manually in A10 (for example?) or will it work out of the box like TM's WH? I know you have to map TM for other modules, but was wondering if A10 module will just work w/o mapping it.

 

Unless they provide a default lua, created specifically for the A-10C (like ED did for the Warthog), you will have to map everything manually.

Ok so I have slept on it, and after much careful thought have decided to go with the Virpil offering. Little nervous as they are new to the hardware and no real track record yet, but I sure do like what I am seeing and hearing.

 

I decided on this one over the Gunfighter, mainly because of the grip you get with it. Saves me having to take the grip from my Warthog and adapt it to the base. I realize one can do this, but if I don't need to can just leave it on the Hog and have that stick available should I ever need it again. Even with putting the Hog grip on the Gunfighter, I really don't see what it would give me over this offering.

 

Cyph3r, I assume you will post in this thread when the Mongoose complete joystick setup is available to order?

Unless of course, you're using the VPC MongoosT-50 grip on the TM Warthog base!:

 

When using the MongoosT-50 grip on the TM Warthog base, technically it would work without any remapping. But as a number of buttons are in different places and just generally a totally different setup to the Warthog grip, you may want to remap some functions.

 

Using the VPC MongoosT-50 flight stick would require you to do the button mapping manually.

I have read the latest VPC status update mail and while some delays are absolutely expected there was a little bummer: The fact that I cannot pay via Paypal (at least for my current preorder) I tend to say that I may be out now since I am really a little reluctant to give away my credit card credentials to a startup company without any track record. I dont want to step on anyones toes, but having Paypal's buyers protection was making this investment a little easier for me. Dont get me wrong, I dont expect any difficulties, but having this extra layer of security made me sleep a little better... There are basically just two companies that have my credit card credentials. Thats Amazon and Paypal and I tend to keep it that way. :/

I really would like to know how others think about this. Am I overreacting on giving away my credit card credentials to a new startup company or are there people out there with similar opinions? I really want to support VPC since they have an attractive offering and I really hope they will have success making quality Flying Hardware.

Again, this is absolutely no offense to VPC, nor I'm expecting any scam or what else, but I wouldnt give away my wallet to a complete stranger either!

So really want to hear your opinions. If many people think like me it might be a good step to increase priority on making the paypal payment available even for the preorders. I wouldnt mind to wait with my preorder until I can pay it with paypal, and maybe even getting the base in one package saving some shipping costs. (basically what ram0506 suggested above)

Whilst I would prefer PayPal as well, I am not too awfully concerned with using my credit card. My bank who I have the CC through is very good at handling disputed claims. Now a debit card, no way would I ever use it for an online purchase.

You need ask Wheel Stand Pro manufacturer for provide holes in base plate for allow bolt VirPil base in their stand - like the holes they provide for bolt Warthog base, I think this will be the only requisite for use T-50 there. Or make this holes yourself, in this case ask VirPil for T-50 base holes pattern drawing. ;)

An adapter plate would be rather simple to create as well if you don't want to take a drill to your wheel stand.

Actually even the email communications from them have been quite delayed ... I have to kind of always do a 2nd follow up with them to get a reply... I guess they are either getting too many mails to handle or they are very busy getting the pre-orders ready to ship ... In that case I am not complaining...

Even their forums are kind of Ho Hum these days ... no posts or announcements there as well... I guess the VPC team needs to pull-up their socks and do some serious communication of updates ...I guess more of their team apart from Cyph3r need to interact on these forums and help manage the communication and expectations of their potential customers...

 

I did send a pm to Cyph3r to reply to my mail with the shipping cost estimates but he replied through mail saying that I should check it online when their online shop is up shortly...I would have preferred them sending me the estimates like they did to other pre-order customers... That would have been fair I guess...

 

BTW have any of you guys actually paid for the pre-order yet ?

I would be very interested in a VIRPIL joystick base which is compatible with the TMWH grip. But I'm not interested in any solution that requires me to disassemble the TMWH grip and introduce some kind of "pregnant wires".

 

Background: I bought the VKB Gladiator PRO and the VKB Warthog adapter.

The VKB joystick is wonderful for WWII aircraft, but of course it lacks the buttons for modern aircraft. So the Warthog grip on the VKB base would have been just great. Well, I sacrificed a WH grip (fortunately I have another one with its base) and I managed to get the (very) pregnant wire of the WH adapter into the WH grip somehow. But I cannot get the thing to work, and I don't know whether the problem is hardware, software or support/documentation (the lack of structured support is certainly aproblem). Not an experience I want to repeat!

 

I'm certainly not interested in a solution that uses the TMWH base. I find it impossible to achieve accuracy with this base.

 

Note 1: As an alternative, I would also accept a VIRPIL grip which can be plugged into the VKB base. Again: without having to do surgery on the grip or the base. Exception: changing springs and cams in the VKB base is not a problem.

Note 2: I would probably use the VIRPIL (or TMWH) grip for WWII planes as well in order to avoid swapping grips. I'm not a dogmatic on realism, and I don't mind the extra buttons when I fly FW-190 or Bf-109 or their allied likes.

That is what has sold me on this Virpil offering, too many stories of folks trying to get the WH grip adapted and working to the VKB base.

With the grip offered by Virpil, I would have no need to do this as I would with the Gunfighter.

And I can accomplish a center mount for my desktop easily with their bracket.
