Mr_sukebe Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Question for Virpil. The extension kits that are available are all straight. Do you plan to introduce a curved extension, say around 20cm long (which might well be similar in length to that of one of your competitors)? 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
Pirimeister Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Hi guys, just a quick question, to clear a doubt I (still) have. The WarBRD base will be the new standard going forward, replacing the T-50 base? Or is it a diferent product, more oriented towards desktop use? I'm asking this (after having pre-order it...) because I already have the desk mount and the extensions and am now looking to replace the Warthog base. But now I'm slightly worried about the WarBRD, because of it's compact size, not being able to operate properly, due to the weight of the 15 cm extension. Should I keep the pre-order, or should I opt instead for the Mongoost T-50 base? Any help is very much welcomed! Piri

If you want to use extensions, then get the MongoosT-50 base. WarBRD base should not be used with extensions. And, unlike the MongoosT-50 base, WarBRD base can be used on a desktop. But also can still be installed on a mount. One is not replacing the other. They are designed for different use scenarios.

If you want to mount the stick and use extensions, you absolutely want to get the T-50. WarBRD is desktop only, a less expensive alternative to the T-50. Btw the T-50 mounted with the extensions is a great setup. Karon Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Update on my problem with vibrations and roughness on fast movements. I can't fly in this period so I contacted support about it and they asked if I have tried the cams they have sent me later (assuming I have already reported the issue). I decided to mount one of the other pairs of cams and do some tests. I dreaded this moment, my base is old (SN ~200) and I know some people had issues with the screws. Guess what, I have stripped one. For all of them I have used the same procedure: pre-heat with a soldering iron the slowly but firmly unscrew. The 2 screws holding the vertical axis came out fairly easily although damaged (the amount of thread lock though – see pic). Problems came with the horizontal axis, I knew that being screwed into a bigger body of metal made heating difficult, I didn't expect to irremediably damage the last screw. The third screw came fairly easily: it looks very different from the other tree and wasn't damaged during the process (see pic). I tried then to get the damaged screw with an extractor but it broke. On the last pic you see the amount of thread lock still stuck on the cam itself. I have updated support but no answers in 5 days. I wrote Cyph3r and hopefully someone will come out with a solution asap. I know they are busy but receiving the throttle I have pre-ordered without being able to fly will definitely sucks :noexpression: "Cogito, ergo RIO" Virtual Backseaters Volume I: F-14 Radar Intercept Officer - Fifth Public Draft Virtual Backseaters Volume II: F-4E Weapon Systems Officer - Scrapped Phantom Articles: Air-to-Air and APQ-120 | F-4E Must-know manoevure: SYNC-Z-TURN

I know they are busy but receiving the throttle I have pre-ordered without being able to fly will definitely sucks :noexpression: I can totally relate and feel your pain. My first gimbal was like serial number 032, and I totally destroyed it trying to get those dang cam screws out. Have now logged many many hours in the gimbal I got to replace it. I sure hope they have resolved the cam screw issues now. Hang in there, Cyph3r in my experiences has been very good and helpful, hopefully you will hear from him soon. If you have not, probably best way to contact him is to email support@virpil.com. Karon Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Yep, I remember your posts when you had that problem and hopefully the solution will allow me to enjoy this great base again. To be completely honest I even thought about you before starting the unscrewing operations :D I had a different problem a few months ago (sensor dead), they verified it via Skype and Teamviewer and eventually shipped me a new pair of sensors. I guess they are busy with orders and with the wider clientele although I have opened the ticket on May 12, it's almost two weeks ago. Barefoot Bandit Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 I seem to be a lucky one, having swapped cams several times, I have #104, and had little trouble getting my screws out. I wonder if an impact driver is a better way for those with one of the original batch? Z...
Karon Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Well, it's a bit late to try another approach now, unfortunately :( Question, how much threadlock have you found on your cams and screws? Flamin_Squirrel Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Plenty. I wrecked one of the screws too, but I was more fortunate in that I was successful when using a stud extractor. Unlucky :(
Dinga Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 (edited) I noted awhile back when I first got my T50CM Base the section where the rubber flange sits on the base of the stick. There is a gap there, you can see directly into the housing, you can see the working parts when you move the stick around. I was thinking about putting another rubber boot over this piece to prevent dust from accumulating in there and causing problems after awhile..Has anyone else tried to cover this piece over?At the moment I have just got a hankercheif wrapped and knotted around it.I really do not like the thought of dust getting in there on such and expensive piece of equipment. I know there is a dust cover option but that is not really going to stop stuff accumulating in side the works. Edited May 26, 2018 by Dinga

Agreed, I pointed that out when I first got my T-50 in a little review I did on my first impressions. They really need a rubber boot there that encloses that area much better than what they have now. It should be completely covered. Sorry I missed your review dburne.I am thinking of sawing a piece of rubber boot off a wrecked front wheel drive.I am sure they will have plenty lying around at my local wrecking yard.Trying to think where else you might get something suitable. Dinga Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Went down and bought a steering rack boot.Cut the top off the tie rod end and it fitted easily.

Karon Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 I use part of wife's old black collant. Cheap, easy, adjustable. Ayindi Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 While the F-18C module is coming out today I keep asking myself if VIRPIL should release an F-18 Replica Grip? Actually, I am wondering if it is feasible to offer a Replica sticks for any (the more prominent) DCS modules...? While I can understand that Replica Sticks might have a possibly limited audience I am wondering how much design work needs to go into a regular replica grip... Its a piece of plastic and some switches... (isnt it basically? Forgive my ignorance... ;) ) Are there any licence issues? Not sure about this, but I really would want to buy a F-18 Grip (+Throttle Grips!) from Virpil instead of Thrustmaster... The F-18 will be the next flagship module for DCS for the next couple of years (I am sure...) so I think it would be really a good investment from Virpil? Would really be interested if you agree or disagree?

Ayindi Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 (edited) Still I doubt that they will sell it seperately from their base... :( However, I could be terribly wrong. Nevertheless I still think that Virpil and/or VKB should offer a Replica product for the current DCS flagship module! Why not? I can call thrustmaster and order a new warthog grip without the base. I'm not even sure if the base is any different than the warthog base (plastic gimbal). That would be very lame of them not to sell the grip on it's own considering there are many warhtog set users out there. But I too would welcome virpil to create one..same goes for vkb if you can ever buy one.
