If anything you guys in VR are having it even better. The sun should be BLINDINGLY WHITE when you look directly at it. That's how it is in real life. Also, that's not a WWII helmet.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

that's not a WWII helmet.

I am well aware of that. Which is why I posted the Mirage screenshots first, on the previous page.

With deferred shading enabled, it's pretty much impossible to read the HUD, even while flying away from the sun.

A Rift is a lot more bright than what screenshots show.

Don't forget pilot helmets have visors that should block out that brightness

I don't fly the OpenBeta that often but I think there was an option to lower the helmet visor in the Mirage. Once you put your visor down the screen gets darker. However that effect is not implemented within 2.1 or other aircraft.

And remember it's an Alpha. Things or improvements such as the new lightning engine are still going to be tweaked, it is not finished yet so expect changes with coming future updates to improve performance and readability of the HUD.

Yes I hope so, which is why i post all this in the Feedback-thread :)

This is me in my Mirage, NTTR, flying away from the sun:

Again, it looks brighter in the Rift.

Sadly, there is no way to adjust brightness for VR like you can with a monitor :(

I was able to get decent frame rates but the loading times are off the charts. 20 minutes to get the spitfire instant action dogfight loaded.

I am honestly not blown away by the map. Everything, but mostly the cockpits look horribly washed out and the cliffs and trenches might as well be Quake III engine and textures. I have to say that a 2011 BoB title has more detailed building textures/ 3D models. The forests are shaped like you would expect from a brush set to maximum size and swirled around a bit, resulting in a foreign body amidst the landscape. Overall performance is pretty stuttery for me, Normandy is a slideshow at times. Nevada is mostly OK. The B-17 damage model is also real dodgy and needs a major overhaul.

The water and the WWII assets pack is absolutely stunning though, also in low light PBR looks fantastic. Lets wait a few patches and see what they bring.

Mostly this. the Dora cock pit is a joke now with huge blind spots of white making some of the switches invisible. Granted Ive got the terrain looking good and fps is ok (hitting 106 at times) but please sort the cockpits out.

The first time, or every time ?

The very first time you load any new map you'll have to wait while the system compiles shaders etc.

After that it should be quicker.

Cheers.

It was every time but now I fixed it by putting it on an SSD.

It is early access, its going to have some issues, but good constructive feedback this is not. Why not include a screenshot if its important to you. Early access isnt for everyone, if your not a fan of working through issues, waiting for a more stable release is always best.

Yeah, the P-51 cockpit was apparently adjusted but didnt make it in this build. So its known. I think this goes for other aircraft as well.

Why did we get a differnt version than the backers / early access had ?

Reading the feedback from the early acces forum did not indicate lighting issues or bad performance.

Now we got a different version with strange lighting and bad performance.

I just hope that issues now will be fixed at a faster pace than we have seen with NTTR and that it should be possible to release updates on other days than just fridays.

Actually I've been flying the Gazelle around Normandy for nearly 2 hours and WOW! If this is what we get on open alpha release an RC version will be awesome thanks guys.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

the 2.1 was a roller coaster experience for me...

overall, the Normandy/assets pack install process was really not up to 2017 standards, alpha or not, and i can understand the frustration expressed on the forum.

I installed 2.0 in anticipation of Normandy. then came the 2.1 update. in my case, a 2 mb/s download speed was fine, the update didn't take that long to download.

i was of course confronted to the dlc and asset pack not showing in module manager. Eventually found the appropriate dos commands (thanks guys !) and went on to download Normandy and the Asset pack.

Activation was easy for the pack, but for the map, i actually had to force my key thru DRM.

Then, the first flight came, and since i'm a mirage head, this is the module i used first, then i took out the Spit.

The mirage's VTH is flooded with light, you can't even make out the airspeed or the altitude; but i can't wait until this new lightning technology is mastered...

The clouds are so realistic, overall the game is simply stunning now... I've not experienced any performance issue so far, all settings are maxxed out, and no problem, no stuttering or other video weirdness..

Thanks ED for Normandy, i hope the over bright lightning is fixed soon for my beloved 2000-C, and in the mean time, i'll train on Normandy with my Spit' :)

have a nice day !

In general i'm quite happy as I've got the landscape looking beautiful and average fps while taking these screens was 100+. its just the cockpit lighting for me and when in a hanger in multiplayer its even worse. you are right though i thin i'm gonna stay on 1.5 for a bit longer though.

I just spent an hour flying the Blackshark around, trying to halt a German armored advance through Normandy. This map is wonderful for low altitude flying!

Turns out I'm a terrible Blackshark pilot in combat though... One of the tanks managed to shoot my rotor mast off while I was hovering 1km in front of it, trying to slew the Shkval. I got what I deserved.

10/10 would get rekt again. Now to try the same thing in the A-10 from high altitude. :D

Flew online mostly, and got to taste the new map. The only change I made to my settings were toning down visibility from Extreme to Ultra. And pressing left Alt + Enter to force full screen and Shadowplay to work. Then some of the stutters went away.

The map in general looks gorgeous. The detail levels are off the charts from anything I've ever seen. Simply gorgeous and stunning.

Did shoot down my very first Dora as in first kill on Normandy overall, but failed to record it with Shadowplay (see Alt + Enter comment). No problems with spotting but some work still needs to be done. Last encounter I chased the enemy 109 in a P-51 over the water and even though he was close to me and co-alt I've failed to spot him in spite of constant F10 help.

Then there is the lighting... As others have noted, cockpits now look washed out and very much step back from what we had before. Same goes for the skins. Majority of them are not working. Wish that gets fixed soon.

Good work, hope we get a more polished product soon. :joystick:

Its a new build, as testers we get new builds almost daily, some of them end up with unforeseen issues. Its life in early access I am afraid.

Now that I finally got it running smoothly, I can give some feedback.

Personally I am really enjoying it. I like the visuals, I have deferred shading off to prevent the cockpits from being overly bright, and with HDR on it looks fantastic. I have flown mostly singleplayer, and I had a heck of a time trying to take out some Pz IVs and Panthers! They totally destroyed a column of Shermans, one Firefly, and six Cromwells, as they should, I guess! I also found out that yes, we really do need bomb delays for the P-51! I flew one multiplayer mission in the Spitfire, and shared in the destruction of a Fw. 190. This was where I was having trouble spotting, especially when the contacts were low over towns, it was almost impossible to keep track of them.

I have been finding spotting fairly tricky, this could just be me though and I may need to search around for the impostors settings a bit.
