Little known fact: Scharnhorst would've never been suprised by the RN and sunk by the DoY had it had its radar turned on. German naval radar doctrine was completely off base, demanding radars to be shut off to avoid detection, and that despite fitting arguably the best and most complete gunnery radars of the war on their BB and BCs.

More support units like this are really needed, and not just for WWII. However just an important would be an overhaul of the AWACS/GCI logic and programming.

Firstly it needs to stop going on about things that happened minutes ago. It would also be nice if radar units could be given tasks like other units. I'd imagine something like watching over a specific trigger zone. If enemy units are detected in that zone, then the AI radar would be tasked with directing specific AI units or the player to intercept those enemies.

Not only would this help the piloting experience, but it would simplify some situations in mission editing.
