Not to be overly focused, but are the dreadful disembodied gloves still strewn all over the aircraft nose following use of the touch controllers?

I myself have not got that far yet, spent most of the afternoon just exploring the new software.

However previously all I had to do was let the Touch controllers go into standby mode prior to launching DCS, so maybe that is still the case... though if using them to launch DCS from within Dash, that might be tough.

I wish they had mouse support in the new software. Maybe there is a way to activate it I have not come across yet.

Guys be aware if you decide to try out this beta, it requires Nvidia drivers 388.31 or later.

That may be, I am still in the learning stages.

I did just manage to open the Dash environment, with DCS running, by pressing the Oculus button. Can browse my desktop, but it won't let me open another app says already a VR app running. Selecting the DCS running app put me right back into DCS Hangar.

But again, I am still in the early learning stages here...

I would say there a lot of possibilities I have yet to come across - slow learner and all lol.

I can easily though get to my desktop and back without ever removing the headset.

To expedite your learning process, here is a response I received on /r/oculus after asking if pinning a YT video into my HMD while flying was possible...

I haven't tried this specifically but it should work fine. I pinned a VLC window playing video to my cockpit in elite dangerous and that worked perfectly.

Would just need to pull your web browser out in to a virtual screen and pin it to your view. Some people have had issues with Chrome but said Firefox worked alright.

That may be a little above my current level of learning... still messing around with it though.

One can easily manipulate between Dash and the VR game that is running by just hitting the Oculus Button, I am just not sure how to pull something into the VR environment - especially a running game - as of yet.

Certainly the Oculus Home bit seems to work works fine, most apps can be pulled out and positioned with a few exceptions BUT has anyone managed to engage an app from within DCS environment?

Switching between DCS AND Home and its screens is just a button push so thats fine.. and much better than ALT TAB'ing

So is that a button push with the touch controller? If so, isn't there a problem 'hiding' them once you are in DCS?

In Home screen you can have your monitor screen (or screens) moveable and positioned wherever and pull apps such TS or a browser from a monitor screen and place them where ever.. 'oculus dash' google videos will give many examples.

There was mention that you could use these 'pulled' apps inside VR games... as if in DCS, you could pop up say a TS window, position it where ever, minimise etc but as yet, for me, no...

The remote button can switch your rift screen between the 'home' view and DCS... which is more useful than alt+tab etc..

Yep I found that out this morning, can just use the remote.

Cracked it... for me anyway.... you need a spare display port for the pull outs to work in DCS.... so presumably uses pseudo monitor voodoo / stuff..

Unplugged one of my monitors, In home pulled out TS from a monitor view, scaled and parked it where I wanted it....

Fired up DCS...and there it was no issues, no discernible FPS drop..

You can not move or minimise it however, you need to pop back into home to do that...

Would be fine for certain circumstance / airframes... i.e. a window such as TS or a map or even google maps on the rear bulkheads of helos...

Using an XBox controller and 980Ti

EDIT: You need to pin the pulled APP to 'experience' then you will see it in DCS - if not pinned it will only show in home...

Updating to Oculus Home 2 made my DCS FPS suffer.

Where I normally get a solid 90, it now switched between 45/90 all the time, back and forth. Like ASW is turning on/off/on/off...

I then switched to the classic Oculus Home screen without the dash, and DCS was back at solid 90 again.

With the new Oculus Home Beta I've noticed that head tracking in the Rift seems no longer true 6-dof, as the cockpit seems to move relative to my head movement (e.g., I can no longer look underneath the throttle while leaning forward). Is that just me missing a new setting, or is that a new thing with the new Oculus Beta?

Going back to the previous Oculus Home fixed that, of course.

I haven't checked with DCS itself, but I know this problem from before in any sim and even the home construct of oculus. I do have these problems when returning from hibernate. Some service is not recocknized properly. Head rotation is tracked, but no movement. (movement is done by the cameras, rotation is also tracked by the headset itself).

Just doing a reboot helps for me.

No that is not normal at all.

Sounds like you had a sensor or two drop out on you.

Edit: Also make sure you are running the latest Nvidia drivers. Dash requires I believe 388.31 or later.

So for a bit of nostalgic fun, start some of your Oculus games using the game cartridges and console.

Press the menu button on left controller.

Select the Cube.

Select Library Items.

Scroll to botton and you will see virtual console( old syle game console).

Grab it and set it somewhere in your environment within easy reach.

Now scroll through the Library Items and select your Oculus game want to play.

You will see each game showing twice, one is the box, the other is the cartridge.

Grab the cartridge - insert it into the game console.

Press the power button.

A virtual headset appears, grab it and put in on your head.

Game launches.

Sounds tedious, but with a little practice - and leaving the game console and your favorite game cartridge inserted, easy to launch this way again. Just kind of nostalgic.

Overlay works in DCS , you have to fix the position with the pin in the lower bar!

The TS overlay?

Yes, it works. I've found it's better to use Overwolf though so it's smaller and transparent in-game.
