This does indeed seem exciting! My fear is that because this update is “touch native” we are going to have the continued problem of silly “hands” in and around the cockpit. As it stands now I keep my touch controllers off and put away due to this issue.

I don't know if there will be a direct benefit to DCS. The Home improvement (no pun intended) seems about right. MS Odyssey Home is much better than Oculus so there's some catch up there.

I'm really hoping that they improved the performance and that will lead to modicum of improvement in DCS. We'll see.

That would be cool if it can be hotkey'ed or so it won't be intrusive.

Hi dburne,

Well how it all works out of course remains to be seen, but I see it as bringing most everything I need into the headset, rather than having to go back and forth between headset and monitor.

It will - should - provide a lot more functionality from within the Oculus experience over what is provided now.

Have a look at this introductory vid:

Does this mean that it will be possible to import desktop windows into a VR session? I'm not entirely clear about that.

I, for one, am super pumped to be able to pin a YouTube video in a smaller windows inside my HMD overlayed on top of DCS...same goes for manual PDF's, etc.

It will (read: should) make it much more user friendly when trying to learn a new jet, new procedure, etc. versus having to take the headset off and on to access my Windows desktop.

I am not all that clear on all the particulars, but the way I read it and from watching the short video, it appears it puts everything on your desktop into a VR environment.

It should, via Dash, correct? Assuming the user is on Windows 10.

Will this replace things like TriDef VR ? Will we be able to play 2d games in VR?

Microsoft has it already. where you can see the entire Windows desktop in VR. Or play 2D games within the VR world. But honestly, I wouldn't. If you're going to play 2D game, it's going to be a better experience on a monitor.

You were able to do this already for a long while with apps like BigScreen for Rift.

I don't think that is what is getting people excited here. I think it is the ability to bring in various other things into your current game. Although I don't think that is what this Oculus update is about. Its not all that clear. If its just a desktop in VR then its no big deal.

I meant it's available for Microsoft/Odyssey HMDs.

But like others have said, programs like BigScreen can do some of it.
