The only thing I need for a vr-ready pc is a graphics card. I was thinking of choosing a graphics card somewhere in between a 1060 through a 1080. I know that the 1080 Ti is the best performer, but I don't want to spend that amount of money right now. Right now I have an Rx 460 which is actually not bad in vr (45fps max, low settings), but I would love to be able to play at medium to high settings at 1.0-1.5 ss with minimum 45 fps ASW. Any suggestions are welcome! :pilotfly: :helpsmilie: ps I use a CV1.

I have a 1080 Ti OC'ed pretty damn well, with a CPU OC'ed to 4.7ghz and 16GB of RAM...and I'm lucky to consistently achieve what I bolded above in your post.

Not sure what 2.5 will bring to the table, but I am sorry to say that you'll either have to change your budget or change your settings.

I would suggest getting the best Nvidia card you can afford.

1080ti is the best, i have one. I went from a standard 1080 and the improvement in VR was big enough to justify the additional cost

I would love to get the 1080 Ti, but I just cant afford it right now. What kind of performance would I be getting with a 1080, and is it low enough to justify waiting for the next gen of gpu's?

If you can only afford a 1080 then you've answered your own question, the main thing for DCS is your CPU speed so it depends on what CPU your using, if you are around 4.8 gig I don't think you'll notice much of a different between a 1080 and a 1080ti for the money. You just need to buy the best that you can afford and go with that. Obviously going with the 1080ti would give you the best performance

At this moment I would hold on and check hat the 2.5 brings along. Then there is in future the AMD Vulkan addition that is currently in research to be in 2018, but we get to know more about that in the future only. But with Vulkan there should be very dramatic performance boost compared to DirectX, as we get multiple CPU cores to work and GPU can be maxed out (unlike now).

Thanks for the response! I will most likely wait until we see what kind of performance and optimization 2.5 brings, and maybe DCS might be more hardware friendly (naively hopeful here but you never know). I also cant wait for vulkan... :)

Like most here, I run a 1080Ti. Never drop below 45 FPS (have seen 90's up high) using CV1 with pretty much maxed settings except AS off due to the DCS glitch in 1.5 and 2.2. And with SS at 1.6. Normandy sometimes see it drop to the high 30's with the low level fast flying, especially in cities.

Get the best you can afford, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with a 1080. But that would be the minimum I would recommend.

***EDIT*** Forgot to change power plan via nvidia control panel back to max performance. Normandy runs much better now :)

A 1080 is probably what I am going to probably going to end up with since I can't afford more. Settings wise, how much does PD affect performance? Could I get away with lowering PD from 1.5 to 1.2-ish (or lower, 1.0 min) and have medium settings with a 1080? If so then I would be ready to decide.

Hi I run a 1080 and it is awesome for dcs with fast ram and fast cpu I have a PD of 1.5 everything high and 16x AF I have taken a screeny of my settings to give you an idea of what to expect.

Tonight I will be flying with my buddies in the 229th and its my first MP since I built my new rig. Its possible I will need to dial down some settings for MP but hopefully not too much

My rig is in signature :)

my friend, if u can be patient and get the 1080Ti, you should as DCS is one of the most demanding programs for VR.

at the end 170$ extra is nothing if you can enjoy the best DCS VR experience.

1070 here, no problem running DCS with med to high settings in VR. I usually get at least 30 fps on 2.2 and avg 40-45. And that's with PD set to 1.5. DCS is still highly CPU bound, so I would say law of diminishing returns def applies to GPU's in DCS.

I have 1080 - dcs work good (with Oculus CV1). Actually, there are no complaints

And I can not find an excuse to buy Ti.

But everyday i think about 1080Ti, it makes me sad, maybe just because there's something better :)

Do not make my mistake, take Ti :)

Я лично в общем-то летал. У меня 42 вылета, и каждый раз меня сбивали. Если честно говорить, то в общем-то я ни разу сам не посадил самолёт.

I am curious about how much work the Ti does. my 1080 is running at about 70 - 90 % whilst flying with moments of 98% in busy situations. Obviously if the opening poster can afford a Ti go for it but if not a 1080 or 1070Ti may be the best bang for buck :)

Once the Vulcan Api is integrated, That's BANG for buck!!

I am going still going through my options, but I just want to show my full specs in order to show you guys what I am coming from (med textures, everything else low or off in VR).

-Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 GHz

-G.Skill DDR4 2400 16 GB

-Gigabyte Wind-force Rx 460

-Sand Disk 250 GB SSD

-Asus X 370

-1TB HDD

With these specs (and settings above) I get 45-90 fps 95% in 1.5.8

My question is how much of a performance boost will I get with a better GPU? I am ok with this rigs performance. I hadn't gotten around to buy the GPU before the Oculus, but it works surprisingly well (including in other games). If the performance is a lot better between each GPU, then I would believe a 1060 or 1070 would manage at least medium-ish settings with some light pixel density, especially in the coming of 2.5. But maybe they aren't that much of a difference at all and I would like to get that cleared up, especially with my rig's specs now shown. I really want to get good performance for less money. With my experience with a 460, a GTX 1060 should do just fine since it is over 100% faster, but maybe I am wrong, at least in terms of DCS.

Don't expect this from a 1060. This is VR! you're good to go. A real increase will be the 1080 or 1080TI card. If you don't want that, i recommend you stay with it for now!

It's close to the best, Titan XP I've found to perform a bit better in DCS, especially OC vs OC, but for the $, yes the 1080ti is the best option.

8700k or the i5 variant IMO is the best bang/$ out there - match that CPU with a decent MB/Ram/M.2 and a 1080ti, and you've got pretty much the best system for DCS available at the moment.

Primary DCS System: AMD 9800x3d, MSI Tomahawk 870, 6TB m.2s (2x2t, 1x2tb), MSI Ventus 5080, Seasonic 1200 PSU, 64GB Gskill 6000mhz CL30.  32" Asus 4K OLED 240hz, 49"MSI OLDED

Secondary System : 14600KF, z790 Tomahawk, 32GB Gskill 6000mhz CL32, Asus 4090, 2x2TB m.2.  VR: Quest 3 for now.
