As often mentioned already, it might help for VR, simply because DX11 does VR in a boneheaded way (essentially drawing the scene from scratch, twice). Vulkan offers better ways of doing that, so I'd expect them to be used from the start. It's also a more modern API, so perhaps some optimizations can be added organically while implementing it. It is essentially a rendering engine rewrite, after all.

If 3.0 means engine change + others, then Vulcan is only 2 versions away which is 6 wks for 2.9.9 + another 6 wks… keep positive thinking. Hahaha

VR will have an improvement off the bat, but it might not be as big as some hope. Non-VR users will see less improvement. Most improvements will happen over time.

Lol. Version number doesn't mean much, 2.8 went to 2.8.18.

Yep definitely possible. But that’s rare case. The point is high expectation on sooner release of Vulcan, unless ED planned the release with 4.0🤨

It doesn't work like that, version numbers are not decimals. They'll go to 2.9.10 or 2.10.1 if they have to.

It'll be ready when it's ready, as always.

You are right on version number

Does that mean those to be removed in next patch or formally…;-)

Vulkan isn't ready yet, so anything in public version now has slipped in and should be removed in a future update.

2.9.10, 2.9.11, 2.9.13.

.9 is not the last number in Minor or Sub Versioning.

MAJOR . MINOR . SUBVERSION . REVISION

Thanks for pointing it out. Yes, my expression was not even close to reality. The current graphic engine is like from last century and not everyone can afford top tier GPU like 4090 or coming 5090 to max out visual experience. Cross fingers to ED developers get it overhauled sooner.

Afaik the engine will not be overhauled. It'll be made Vulkan compatible to make a transition from DX11 limitations. It'll look exactly the same at first but will add new possibilities for future development.

You'll still need top tier GPU/CPU/MEM to max out visuals at high resolutions. There are options to allow play on lower tier hardware.

You seem to have some unrealistic expectations - better ask now before getting disappointed later.

I won’t be disappointed. And always appreciate the new features and bug fixes with each release. 5090 and Pimax Super is on shopping list …but still look for significant graphics leap which is not UNREALISTIC if you look at what the visual can be achieved with MFS2020 or 2024. Just matter of time while ED worked on it since 2019 publicly if I don’t remember incorrectly. Rome won’t be build in a day while that is a bit too long.

Well....Looks like Vulkan won't be making an appearance this year unfortunately. 😔

You'll never know when a Vulkan will erupt. Can only estimate the chances.

But if it does, it'll be a big event. 😉
