Have you measured your swapfile usage ? Anyway, i have this spare SSD and I see no problem to give it the full thing if it needs to be. Rather I'd see DCS make use of 32-64GB RAM, or even more if need to be on servers with a high player count. I tested with MSI Afterburner : DCS is using 10 GB RAM, and the SwapFile is 15-16 GB used. Why is the SwapFile used, when i still have 20 GB RAM free ?? It could be DCS's side or WIN10 who cant properly manage the ram, it's a good question btw, maybe someone from the dev's or ED's team can spend a world on this issue. jnr4817 Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 I was having a similar issue with all of my games, including DCS. It is the real time file protection in windows defender that was causing this. Once I disabled, the issue went away. 9800x3d|64 GB 6200|4090|m.2 x2 http://www.blacksharkden.com/ Come join us!

Most of the reason is due to gsync which apparently is broken in win10, so I want to see if I manage to have a smooth trackir/gsync experience, if not I'll siwtch back ti win10. tihis a guide on howto create usb bootable pen for win7 which includes usb and nvme support for win7 Edited August 29, 2018 by Goa CPU : Intel i7 8700k@5.0ghz cooled by Noctua NH-D15 / Motherboard:Asorck Z370 Taichi / RAM: 32GB GSkill TridentZ @3600mhz / SSD: 500GB Nvme Samsung 970 evo+1 TB Sabrent Nvme M2 / GPU:Asus Strix OC 2080TI / Monitor: LG 34KG950F Ultrawide / Trackir 5 proclip/ VIRPIL CM2 BASE + CM2 GRIP + F148 GRIP + 200M EXTENSION /VKB T-Rudder MKIV rudder /Case: Fractal Design R6 Define black

Goa Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 Do you mean the FPS drops? I mean jittery/stuttery when using anygame in conjuction with trackir. This seems to be caused by win10 and gsync, so I want to test win7 and see...i read a lot of threads on nvidia forums, reddit, etc etc and it seems that win7 is not affected by gsync problems so I'll give it a try.. CPU : Intel i7 8700k@5.0ghz cooled by Noctua NH-D15 / Motherboard:Asorck Z370 Taichi / RAM: 32GB GSkill TridentZ @3600mhz / SSD: 500GB Nvme Samsung 970 evo+1 TB Sabrent Nvme M2 / GPU:Asus Strix OC 2080TI / Monitor: LG 34KG950F Ultrawide / Trackir 5 proclip/ VIRPIL CM2 BASE + CM2 GRIP + F148 GRIP + 200M EXTENSION /VKB T-Rudder MKIV rudder /Case: Fractal Design R6 Define black
toutenglisse Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 Could anyone help me with this question, please ? I have 32 GB RAM. I tested with MSI Afterburner : DCS is using 10 GB RAM, and the SwapFile is 15-16 GB used. Why is the SwapFile used, when i still have 20 GB RAM free ?? it's because it's not directly related to free ram, but to virtual memory option. In my opinion most of the pagefile/swap size is datas that have been used by DCS in ram, but no more used and stored in pagefile to be more quickly accessed if needed again later. As you use old standard virtual memory from windows, this swap/pagefile is set to be handled by virtual memory (parts of ssd/hd that is set to be used like Ram, but way more slower, 80 times with my rig, firstly there in case you run out of ram, so system doesn't crash but runs slower) so system is sure that unused data won't take ram that you fear to be short with (it's what you said to system by keeping virtual memory enabled) So there is no chance for swap to be handled by free ram until you disable virtual memory. Doing that (disabling virtual memory) or not is another thing. One thing sure is that if you have a short limit for swap, this swap will be often replaced with more recent unused data coming from ram. One thing I believe is that If you set your swap to infinite, and fly forever over always new terrain, your swap load will increase with no limit.

One thing I believe is that If you set your swap to infinite, and fly forever over always new terrain, your swap load will increase with no limit. When I did my testing, all i did with the Fa18 was spool it up and taxi 20m away from the shelter, parked it there and went on with housekeeping for a couple hours, checking the screen when possible. So no, you do not need to fly over new terrain, the SwapFile growth also happens with a static view from your cockpit at a quiet place on ( I dare to say ) any airfield and any map tho i tested only 1 airframe on Caucasus on 1 airfield, pretty boring but tells me a lot. toutenglisse Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 Yes sure, as with MP a lot of new things load up even if you only wait, just traffic will increase swap. It was just an exemple with zero real ingame observation.

petsild Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 A lot of users not only DCS are back to a stable smooth W7. MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4, Kingston 3600 MHz 64 Gb, i5 12600K, Gigabyte RTX 4090, Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus,VKB NXT Premium.
Eldur Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 I don't understand why the Swap is working, while there is still free RAM Because Wendows is not Lenux Keeps swapping constantly at a usage of just 3GB when 32GB of physical memory are available. That why the first step after a installation of that OS is to completely disable the devastating swap file. And that's why DCS' real minimum specs IS 24GB since it definately will crash up on just 16GB in less than half an hour.
