Not mentioned above, the Saitek Rudder owns the CH rudder for sure with its adjustable force and wider foot base.

Wider foot base?! Ok... compared to the CH peds, but for Elite or RCS users the Saitek's are still narrow. I like these: http://home.arcor.de/p.madel/simped/index.htm

But lets not forget,

It is about the hands (and feet) steering and not the stick itself.

No truer words were ever spoken. A skillful pilot is not determined by his stick. A skillful pilot is the one who best utilizes resource management, maintains high SA and can use his stick/HOTAS (regardless of type) like a magician uses his wand! :joystick:

LEt me tell you that a better HOTAS does make a difference in kill numbers.

It went higher wehn I swiched from my Thrustmaster Afterburner to my current X52, but then it went down again since 1.1 :D

When people got a new stick the brain is stimulated to learn something new, the learning curve is steeper in this period....after a while you get used to it and it all becomes "normal". The same counts for the learning curve.

Next to this, people are more excited with the new stick because "it will make them a better pilot". In some way this is correct, but not because of the stick......but mainly because of the brain :smartass:.

Ofcourse there are also old, crappy and broken sticks around, in this case a new stick will indeed make you a better pilot :D.

btw, what about the X-52 pro? I currently have an X-52, but i just can't bring myself up to the task to buy the pro version because i don't see a significant improvement. The tension on the stick is improved a little, but I can achieve the same tension with the plastic washer on the X-52. The feel quality is about the same, the pro version has more metal. But the MFD is the only thing i haven't checked out in the pro version. Regardless, it shouldn't be about 100 dollars increase in price from the original X-52? Just wanted to hear your side of the story.

Well, I only flew a short while with the X52Pro but long enough to make the same conclutions as you did. I really don't think this "Pro" makes any sence. The only things improved are the buttons, the MFD (I wouldn't use it anyway) and more fancy lights. And I can hardly tell if this spring force is really an improvement.

I even think the X52Pro will be worn out quicker because the iron ring makes more friction with the plastic base. I especially looked at this part of the X52Pro because i wanted this to be improved (less friction). The opposite is the case, the X52Pro i tried was usef for like 3 months, my x52 looked like that after 2 years of usage.

Maybe it's a sales trick?

Theres a rubber neck at the base of the stick to prevent dust from falling into the base box. In previous sticks it would cause interference when you traveled the stick arround. BRRRRGRRRRRBRRRRGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR

does it still do this with the cougar?

does anybody else find their X52 to be squeaky at the base where it rotates on? is there anyway to lubricate it without making a mess?? :P it gets annoying.

Take a cloth, dampen the cloth with some Fabric Softener and wipe some Fabric Softener around the area to lubricate - worked a treat with my old stick, the Cyborg Evo :)

I recently got the Cougar from the advice of the VTB's and out of the box with a little tweaking in LOMAC it's perfect for loose & tight formations, and also combat flying. I have to say I love it.
